Bicycle Bride is a 2010 romantic comedy film by Hassan Zee.
The film follows the story of Beena, a young American-Indian girl being entered into an arranged marriage by her loving but overbearing mother. Beena falls in love with a white Swedish tourist though, and ends up involved in many zany misadventures trying to prevent various unappealing suitors from trying to propose to her.
Bicycle Bride is one of Zee's earliest and best-known films.
This film contains examples of the following tropes:
- Arranged Marriage: The main plot point of the film.
- Bird-Poop Gag: Beena and her friend collect bird droppings from numerous pigeons for an Indian love spell.
- Charity Ball: In this case, it's a charity bike ride (for kids with cancer). The scene is pretty wholesome really, as all the characters are seen participating.
- Entendre Failure: Bart wears a hat that says F.B.I.: Female Body Inspector. A woman sees the hat and actually believes the boy to be a member of the F.B.I. who has come to arrest two neighbours for having sex with the curtains open.
- Extreme Doormat: Beena's subservient, submissive but loving father.
- Stringing the Hopeless Suitor Along: Beena is supposed to marry an unappealing man named Bubba. Her best friend's white grandmother hooks him in with the offer of beautiful girls at a swimming pool, who lead him on into thinking he can date them. They fondle him, and while he's distracted, they shove him into the pool and leave him.
- Named After Somebody Famous: Beena's Swedish beau is named James Dean. He also looks exactly like James Dean for some reason.
- White-Dwarf Starlet: Mary Jane's grandmother.
