Tropes for the film:

  • Action Survivor: Alvin Sanders is a petty thief fresh out of jail who finds himself a pawn in a game played between federal agents and a thief, Bristol, they try to catch. In this case, Alvin has a bit of Combat Pragmatist in him.
  • Alliterative Name: Stevie Sanders, Alvin's younger brother.
  • Butt-Monkey: Julio and Ramundo, Stevie's business partners. There are both incapacitated via taser by Bristol, then their car crashes after capturing Alvin, and have their horse betting ruined once again by Alvin.
  • Evil Genius: Bristol, who is not only a remorseless murderer, he is an elite genius who can easily hack into government software, use a voice-changer, and can make bombs.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Bristol is a ruthless thief and murderer in glasses. Often speaks in a calm, detached voice. A memorable scene has him nearly getting hit by a truck while chasing after Jaster. The truck driver gets out and asks if he's crazy. Bristol calmly tells him "No", shoots him, and just as calmly replies, "I'm fine, thanks for asking".
  • Knight of Cerebus: Bristol. His scenes are played seriously compared to the lighter dark-comedy tone of the film.
  • One-Word Title: Bait.
  • Tagline: "It's Criminal vs. Criminal".
  • Those Two Guys: Julio and Ramundo, the criminal pair that Stevie does shady business with.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Bristol has little problem activating a bomb that could kill Alvin's 2-year-old son.
