Bad Apples is a Slasher Movie by Bryan Coyne.

Ella Block (Brea Grant) is a young woman who recently moved to town from California with her husband, Robert (Graham Skipper) to start anew. The move was recent, so they're still unpacking. Since it's Halloween, Robert wants to carve a jack-o-lantern to put outside their house, even though Ella just wants to unpack all their things first.

Come Halloween night, Robert needs to work a late shift at the hospital, leaving Ella all alone in the house. That night, two teenage girls in masks come to her house for trick or treating. Ella is in no mood and orders them to leave. This proves to be a huge mistake on Ella's part.

The film was released on February 6th, 2018.

Bad Apples contains examples of:

  • Alone with the Psycho: Ella's situation on Halloween night, when the girls come to her home.
  • Bathtub Scene: Ella is seen soaking in a bathtub in one scene early in the movie.
  • Berserk Button: Try to remove the girls' masks, and they will kill you. Two people find this out the hard way.
  • Censor Suds: In the above-mentioned Bathtub Scene, the tub is covered in suds so we only see her head and knees.
  • Chekhov's Gun: At one point in the movie, it's revealed that the bar holding the shower curtain up is detachable. Ella brings it down on the girls to temporarily incapacitate them long enough for her to get away.
  • Cruel Mercy: The girls decide not to kill Ella so she can suffer the loss of her husband.
  • Dramatic Unmask: At the end, after finally stabbing the girls, Ella removes their masks so she can see their faces.
  • Egging: The two girls throw several eggs at a trailer on Halloween night to get the resident to come out.
  • The Faceless: For most of the movie, the girls' flesh and blood faces are always concealed by either the camera angle, their hair, or their trademark masks. It's only at the end when Ella finally pries them off and finds out what they really look like.
  • Handguns: One of the girls finds a magnum in their second on-screen victim's house. They use it to finish her off.
  • Human Jack-O-Lantern: When Ella comes to after being knocked out near the end, she discovers that the girls turned Robert's torso into a jack-o-lantern.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Principle Dale's secretary finds him dead in his office with the flagpole driven through his stomach.
  • In the Back:
    • One of the girls stabs Samuel in the back.
    • Ella gets a knife in her lower back. She pulls it out when she finds it.
  • Malevolent Masked Women: The two girls go on a killing spree on Halloween night while hiding their faces behind red and green apple masks and killing anyone who tries to look at their real faces.
  • No Ending: The girl at the end of the movie sees her front door creak open... Roll credits.
  • No Name Given: The killers are never named, and are only credited as "Sister #1" and "Sister #2".
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Robert reveals to a colleague at the hospital that he and Ella used to have a daughter. However, she dies due to health problems, which devastated Ella. The reason they moved was that they hoped the change of scenery would help them.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stock Slasher: The girls are a pair of mask-wearing individuals who enjoy torturing and killing their victims.
  • Teens Are Monsters: The two killers in the movie are a pair of teenage girls who enjoy wrecking stuff and killing people.
  • They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: When Ella pulls the masks off the girls while they're unconscious, she finds that they look like regular, ordinary teenagers.
  • Title Drop: Ella makes one during her job interview at the school.
Ella: I mean... there are certainly some bad apples, but... I can assure you that it's not a California-related issue.
