Regieleki and Regidrago

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Regieleki [894]
  • Regidrago [895]

Behavior

Unlike Regirock, Regice, and Registeel; Regieleki and Regidrago behave only machine-like in that they do not actively consider their surroundings when set about a task. When presented with a wall, they will comprehend the obstacle, but will blast through it without pause or consideration to whom might be on the other side. They do register spoken words, but have proven totally unresponsive to commands or inquiry. They do not appear to be intentionally malevolent, but instead totally ignorant of humanity and seek out only on the motivation to feed on energy.

Physical Descriptions

Regieleki is a relatively short, semi-spherical golem-creature composed of a complex mesh of crystals and metal that glow at such a brightness that it often resembles ball lightning. Fragments recovered from after the event dubbed, the Attack of the Titans, confirmed the presence of regicite on some of the metal components, similar to those on Registeel but more chemically similar to gold than iron. The main body is mostly round in shape with no refined head or torso, topped with several prongs of constantly charged electrical arcs. The only defining feature of the body is the seven-orange dotted horizontal pattern on the “face”, for lack of better terms, which are arranged in a formation akin to a horizontally stretched out “x”. The body is separated from the large “arms” via blue-steel colored bangs of an unknown insulation material, with the arms themselves composed of whirling bands of heavily electrified, gold colored metal that have so much electricity constantly arcing between them that their interior could be compared to looking at a miniature sun. When attacking, the bands unclasp and unleash massive streams of electricity and plasma. The “stomach” is separated from the torso via another series of insulation bands, and is composed of a similar metal to the body; with the approximations for feet and legs being extremely small for the rest of the form to give Regieleki a very top-heavy appearance. It is far shorter than most golems, at roughly half the height, but having a comparable mass to Regice.

Regidrago has a somewhat humanoid outline, but like Regieleki this particular golem has a very spherical shape. The core body is almost entirely a reddish hue tinted with purple, bearing seven blue dots in a vaguely “Y” formation on its core. The body also has several lines above and below this pattern, which resemble a snarling set of fangs in shape. Two very short legs, rimmed with the same black crystalline formations that make up the “arms”, are present below the body. The arms themselves are larger than the body. Forged of black crystals with a confirmed regicite make up, the arms echo the appearance of a snarling dragon’s head when put together; with the left arm being the mandible and lower jaw, and the right arm being the cranium. The “dragon head” echoes the appearance of a Charizard, namely a Gigantamax form, with two backwards pointing horns behind the eyes and two more shorter horns behind the nostrils. The face appears purely aesthetic, as Regidrago doesn’t actually see from the eyes.

Regieleki and Regidrago are far less researched than the other known members of their family. All scientific study was conducted after the chaotic event following their release. However it is known their appearance sparked even more curiosity behind the mysterious regicite material, as while it had been known to conduct energy and take on properties consistent with solid materials like rock, ice, and steel before; its ability to store and emit such gargantuan amounts of electricity and even the specific combination of plasma and fiery abilities known to dragon-type Pokémon caught everyone by surprise.

Unlike the other elemental golems, Regieleki and Regidrago’s respective “X” and “Y” facial markings are of a symbology totally unknown. A potential link between the life and death symbolism formed from reverence for the neighboring Kalos region’s Xerneas and Yveltal is being investigated. Electricity’s role in life had been long known as quintessence by ancient alchemists, as well as the use of dragons as symbols for likewise destruction.

Lore and History

Unlike Regice, Regirock, and Registeel, Regieleki and Regidrago appear to be totally absent from any legends from Hoenn or Sinnoh. The only indications the two even existed prior to being unleashed were several scattered alchemist writings that had been locked away inside several vaults, indicating their absence might not have been from lack of knowledge but a deliberate censorship to keep them from being sought out and unleashed. What they referenced was extremely different from the more well-known trio of golems. The documents refer to an ancient king forging two titans from lightning and the breath of dragons, with many researchers speculating as to this king’s identity.

Some interpreted them as a literal ruler, perhaps the semi-mythical King Hoenn, citing archaeological evidence of a Bronze Age venture into Galar by people with a similar craft and tomb building practice to archaic Hoennites. In this interpretation, Hoenn arrived in ancient Galar to make use of the Crown Tundra’s unique elements to forge the two extra golems as weapons of war in his conquests; but they proved to be his undoing before a third golem could be made. The two out of control creations then destroyed his expeditionary forces before being sealed away. Others think references to a king instead refer to Regigigas, which was once called the King of the Titans or Giants by some archaic Sinnoh texts. This interpretation has it where Regigigas forged the two Galarian golems sometime before crafting Regice, Regirock, and Registeel. A third was intended to be made, but the prior two creations proved too destructive and attacked humanity. Regigigas stopped creation of the third golem and sealed the other two away, later creating the more well-known golem trio out of more stable materials.

Some researchers and folklorists have even taken to a third hypothesis. That King Hoenn might not have been as bloodthirsty a conqueror as some potentially biased ancient texts implied, and he instead traveled to Galar to gather not materials or conquest, but knowledge during a time Regigigas was present. Hoenn, a skilled alchemist, was inspired by the King of Titans and tried to create two golems in the image of Regigigas to give people the potential to harness the powers of electricity and protect them from attack by hostile forces. However, his choice in elements proved too chaotic to control and Regigigas was forced to intervene. But when efforts to control the other two golems proved fruitless even for it, they were sealed away using three simpler and more easy to control elements. With the original trio of Regirock, Regice, and Registeel made, Regigigas and Hoenn left Galar to create their own batches of golem trios afterwards in the Sinnoh and Hoenn regions respectively

The presence of a third trio of golems outside of Hoenn and Sinnoh under the ownership of Frontier Brain Brandon*** and the new discovery of temples to Regice, Regirock, and Registeel in Galar furthered these rumors that Brandon's trio were the original golems from Galar. Studies discovered an activation seal present at the Ruins of Decision matching one of the three golems, but lack of clarity and the damages to the temple complicates matters as to figuring out what exactly happened that lead to the destructive pair's release. The possibility Brandon got his trio from Galar during his earlier days as an Archaeologist in the region added further fuel to the fire he has otherwise denied commenting on. When asked to further clarify what he knew after the fateful events, his only statement was that he was keeping what happened once from happening again.

Whether this was in reference to the day that went down into the history books as the Attack of the Titans or the events from long ago is unknown. The temples that might have once housed the Galarian iterations of Regirock, Registeel, and Regice were all destroyed in the calamity.

What is known from ancient history is that Regieleki and Regidrago proved far less passive and docile than their relation. Both went completely wild and tore a path of destruction across Galar and the Crown Tundra. Given their behavior in the modern era, the vague references to this attack are likely an abundantly true part of the legend. Observations have also been made that the maneuver used to imprison the two within rock and ice resembles their sealing in the cold tundra.

Known Sightings

The only known sightings of Regieleki and Regidrago occurred on a day of infamy that has already been dubbed the “Attack of the Titans” by the news media. Piecing together just how they suddenly appeared took weeks, but what is known is a few days prior a powerful Pokémon Trainer known to be an employee of Macro Cosmos had previously challenged Battle Frontier Brain Brandon before they immediately withdrew from battle. Several days later, Brandon's compound was attacked by an infamous Pokémon he'd struggled with before under the ownership of the notorious Pokémon Hunter J; and in the chaos his Regice was taken. This occurred a mere two days before the calamity struck Galar.

Survey of the damaged Ruins of Decision revealed this Trainer’s license as well as a destroyed airship used by Pokémon Hunter J who may have been in league with or opposed to the Trainer. Fatalities of both human and Pokémon were confirmed, but details as to who were obscured. Macro Cosmos president Rose insisted his employee had been acting without prompting, and might have sought the power of the energetic golems to help Macro Cosmos' efforts to combat Galar’s growing power crisis.

After being unleashed, Regieleki and Regidrago carved a path of destruction through the Crown Tundra as they sought out and hunted down power sources. Multiple smaller towns had to be evacuated and the missing persons reports involving hikers, trainers, or rural dwellings are still being amassed. The titan’s rampage caught Galar completely off-guard, and the pair moved at such haste and were so destructive that it took several days for accurate reports of what was going on to be made. By then, the pair had already reached and consumed enough Power Spots that they both underwent a Dynamax transformation shortly before making landfall in Galar proper; Regieleki draining further settlements dry of electrical energy while Regidrago ignited everything it could find.

The region was put into a state of emergency with evacuation orders south of Motostoke being enacted. Several gym leaders, Professor Magnolia’s assistants, and Galar League Champion Leon went to task evacuating refugees and trying to slow Regieleki and Regidrago’s advance. Efforts were initially made to attempt at burning out the pair’s Dynamax transformation, but Regieleki’s extreme speed and Regidrago’s high attack range and firepower meant mounting a stable attack was difficult. Not even a full on assault by Leon rallying most of the regional Gym Leaders into a group Gigantamax worked to stop the titans, but they did thankfully slow their advance enough to buy time and evacuate several towns that got leveled in the clash of giants. However with the defenders beaten back, the hope to diminish the two was spoiled. By the time either of them showed signs of burning through their transformation, they’d have reached another Power Spot and recharged. The regional ace trainers' efforts did help save countless lives, as the two titans bore down on the first big city they’d encountered at Motostoke and its high walls.

Relief thankfully came when Frontier Brain Brandon arrived with his own remaining two golems, Regirock and Registeel. A desperate gambit was put into place just as Regidrago loomed over and smashed down the outer walls of Motostoke whilst Regieleki summoned a thunder storm. Motostoke City Gym Leader, Kabu, rerouted as much power in Motostoke Stadium into Brandon’s Regirock, and Registeel to charge them with Dynamax enabling energies while a veritable army of trainers lead by Leon and Magnolia's assistants held back Regieleki and Regidrago at the walls of the city as long as possible.

Observations have been made that Brandon’s golems seemed to naturally react to the Dynamax causing Galar particles, hinting they already had such particles in their make-up like they were crafted from Galarian minerals. Regardless of speculation, the plan worked, and Brandon’s stony and metallic golem titans were able to grow to an enormity to match the hostile duo. The now fifty story tall Regirock engaged Regieleki while Registeel pushed Regidrago back out of the walls of the city. To further swing the odds in their favor, Professor Magnolia's assistants and Leon were dispatched to the Crown Tundra to reclaim Regice, whom it was correctly deduced was back at the Ruins of Decision.

While the battle was dragged out of the city, it was hardly won. Regirock’s high defense and attack helped to weather the impacts of Regieleki even if the latter’s blistering speed made striking back difficult, while the gigantic Regidrago and Registeel’s high health and defenses respectively made it a war of attrition between their battle. It was only with help by multiple Leaders and Trainers was Regice restored from dormancy, having been discovered shattered outside an activation seal near the ruins. Moving into the fray and similarly bolstered to great size, the ice titan's typing and ability to slow down its foes helped in swinging the odds in Galar's favor. The clashing titans battled it out across Lake Axwell, but eventually all five of the Titans' Dynamax boost was worn out and both were imprisoned by a combination of Registeel grabbing its enemies and using a point-blank Explosion to weaken the pair in a kamikaze attack, followed by Regirock and Regice using a combination of Rock Tomb and Ice Beam worked to imprison the rampaging duo.

Damages from the the attack, dubbed in media "The Clash of the Titans" after a popular fantasy film, was in the millions; but Galar persevered and the brave efforts of many civilians and defenders alike contained a lot of the potential devastation from having an equally high cost besides monetary. Macro Cosmos has since opened up a fund to help those displaced by the tragedy and resettlement was nearly complete after only a few years. Regieleki and Regidrago were re-imprisoned in the Crown Tundra under Brandon’s supervision, who sent his golems back to Kanto the moment the imprisonment was finalized and Registeel had pulled itself back together. Given it appears the golems are needed for activation of the other two, none argued with his decision. Since then, the Ruins of Decision placed under guard, hopefully to keep anyone else from foolishly turning loose its occupants once again.

Diet (if any)

Neither golem has been observed eating. Long range scans do indicate Regieleki seemed to absorb electrons from material it passes by, which can cause potentially hazardous chemical changes in the isotopes it leaves behind. Regidrago has been observed “vacuuming” up flames left behind by its attacks, almost like it needs to vaporize what it consumes. Both have been seen doing more of these actions after suffering damage, speeding up recovery. The two also seem drawn to any source of energy, especially Power Spots. This further contributed to their destructive habits, as many high energy sources in Galar have cities built atop them.

Abilities

Regidrago and Regieleki have not been studied like the other three legendary golems, due to their highly destructive nature. It does appear that they differ from the three drastically in many respects, however. Observation that status decreasing moves do work on them, as minimal as the effect might be, implies they aren't entirely immune to performance hindering abilities or attacks such as Leer or Intimidate. Instead it appears whatever previously unknown ability they have is most similar to the Adaptability seen in the Porygon line or Dhelmise’s Steelworker ability, in that all Electric and Dragon-type moves used by Regieleki and Regidrago respectively are magnified in power.

In terms of speed, no Pokémon not using status enhancement or temporary ability bolstering powers can keep pace with Regieleki. This factors into the electrical golem’s attack strategy, which often consists of high-speed hit and runs or firing at range while using its rapid pace to stay out of reach. In terms of actual defenses however, Regieleki is a bit of a Glass Cannon by Legendary Pokémon standards; which equates to being still quite powerful and resilient by normal Pokémon standards. Almost all of its recorded attacks are what is expected of an Electric-type mixed attacker with a few other varieties of maneuvers, such as Wild Charge and Extreme Speed for physical blows and Thunder and Zap Cannon for projectiles. The electrical golem was also seen using a previously unknown attack during its battle with Regirock, flying into the air, uncurling its arms, and unleashing massive bolts of lightning that arced around Regirock and remained around it for several minutes whilst continually striking the enemy golem. Several Pokémon owned by Trainers attempting to help were unable to be recalled during the multi-minute long duration of this attack, indicating the “Thunder Cage” as its been dubbed, works like a much stronger version of entrapment moves such as Fire Spin.

Regidrago is quicker than the previously known golems, but not as fast as Regieleki. Instead its capabilities mostly rely on raw firepower and resilience. Instead of high defenses like the prior golems, Regidrago’s resilience comes from its extremely high vitality corresponding to a high health. Some research and scans of the aftermath of the attack indicate Regidrago might not have an extremely high attack power in itself, but that it’s unique abilities and tendency to use heavy hitting attacks to begin with that made it so destructive. A previously unseen move it used frequently during the rampage consisted of the golem levitating high into the air, forming its arms around its core like a shell that resembled a snarling dragon, and unleashing an extremely potent ray of purple plasma. It would often sweep the ray back and forth while airborne to strike as many foes as possible. The ray was comparable to a Hyper Beam in some respects, but required no recharging phase despite hitting hard enough to blast a Dynamax transformed Registeel through Motostoke’s walls even with the steel titan’s use of a Protect barrier. This maneuver was dubbed “Dragon Energy” by a panicked Leon when he tried to forewarn Brandon of the coming attack, not knowing what else to call it. Thankfully despite the tremendous power, this signature move did have an apparent drawback in that its strength seemed tied to Regidrago’s vitality, much like the moves Water Spout or Eruption. The longer the battle went on and the more hits Registeel and later Regice landed on their foe, the weaker Regidrago’s energy waves got.

Hazards

Decidedly unlike their brethren, which are as stationary as names based on rocks, ice, and steel would imply, Regieleki and Regidrago are extremely active and virtually never stationary. They are some of very few Pokémon known to actively target humans and other Pokémon alike for no discernable reason. If something is within visible range of the pair, they almost will never hesitate in attacking it. It has been noticed they seem to go out of their way to target objects made of ice, metal, or stone masonry with zeal; making them a gigantic threat to populated areas or ice sculptures if unleashed. The pair’s propensity to detect energy sources further amplifies their threat to populated areas; especially if they detect or sense a Power Spot with Dynamax enabling energies nearby. Evacuation orders for the two are ordered to be tripled if one or both manages to Dynamax as their ability to store energy means they can maintain that form for hours if not days at a time.

Should evacuation be impossible, or one is tasked with trying to hold off the pair’s advance to buy time for an evacuation, proceed with the utmost caution. Regieleki and Regidrago are beings partially composed of energy, but that energy does correspond to an Electric and Dragon monotype Pokémon. Engaging with highly defensive Ground or Fairy-type Pokémon is the safest option, but the two’s overwhelming power is more than enough to punch through typical Type-based immunities. All restraints such as hesitancy to active a Mega Evolution, Z-Move, or Dynamax should be cast into the wind by those forced to go up against the pair, especially when they are together. Regieleki has a fairly paltry defense, but moves at such extreme speed that agility boosting moves are all but required to keep up or even tag it. Regidrago doesn’t have very high defensive stats compared to the other golems, but has such an enormous amount of health that this might not be apparent.

  • Addendum*
As of Galarian Council Ordinance #1950, approaching the Ruins of Decision where the resealed Regieleki and Regidrago reside is a felony after the recent and avoidable tragedy. Officials remind those that object for the sake of discovery and seeking to capture a powerful force, that the first fatalities in the Attack of the Titans was the adventure and knowledge seeking party who let the golems out to begin with.

  • Addendum*
Galar Council ordinance #1954 authorized, in the event of an emergence of the destroyer titans, trainers with capable equipment are not bound by League rules stating they cannot have both a Mega Evolution, Z-Move activation, and/or Dynamax transformation on the same Pokémon if tasked with confronting the titans; and are permitted to us any or all means of opposition.

Popular Culture

  • Despite the devastation, or perhaps to help recover from it, many of culture and pop culture have begun to take a deeper notice of the golem-like Legendary Pokémon than ever before. The literally titanic battle between Regidrago and Regieleki against Regirock, Registeel, and Regice has been the subject of many pieces of artwork, sculpture, and media. The image of Regidrago looming over Motostoke’s walls with a hand ominously gripping the edge has been especially burned into the consciousness. A popular comic turned cartoon turned theatrical film named after the events has been created exploring the ancient past of these Titans; though out of consideration for the victims of the event the series is firmly set in a fictional world.
