These are recommendations made by tropers for Zero Escape fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Cat's Cradle by Pengy Chan

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: 'Gigantic, June 1991. Gentarou Hongou awakens inside a room he's never seen with a [5] written in red on the door. He has a key card, no idea of what's going on, nine hours to get out… and eight people to beat to it. Hours tick by, and the snare of fate tightens around him and his two unlikely allies as they play a Game that will define their lives - and deaths.'
• Comments: Fic detailing Ace's experience with Gordain's Game. Very well written and fits perfectly into canon.
• Tags: Dark Fic, Death, Horror, Gore, Mystery.

Nine by Pengy Chan

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: 'The 9th Man is stopped before he can go through Door [5]. This changes a few things.'
• Comments: A sequel to the above Cat's Cradle, this fic is a What If? scenario where the 9th Man isn't killed at the start of the Nonary Game. The story shifts perspectives between Ace, Seven, and the 9th Man throughout the story, showing multiple perspectives on the situation ala Zero Time Dilemma. Admittedly, I do feel like the ending killing Kubota off anyway kind of defeats the purpose of the fic, especially given how him not dying could have impacted the remaining two games, but regardless, this is still a fun read that delves into an interesting what-if situation.

Anything Else by Yammdere

• Recommended by: Shadow Spectrum, Blazing Larvesta
• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Stuck together with very little time left, Tenmyouji and Clover have a talk. There's very little reason for secrets anymore.
• Comments: Tenmyouji and Clover talk about their shared past after Dio chains them to the sink in VLR. Gets their dynamic and sense of despair down well.

Empty Virtue by Chessanator

• Recommended by: Kinrah, Blazing Larvesta
• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Phi's perspective of the events of Virtue's Last Reward. Complete with Plot Locks and all nine characters' endings. Will the trials of her game repair the void in Phi's soul? Or will they break her, leaving her empty of virtue?
• Comments: This story reads almost how VLR would play from Phi's perspective; where in the games Sigma and the player become confused by Phi's odd outbursts, this story presents Sigma's story through Phi's eyes. A long runner since 2015, there are a couple of acceptable breaks from canon, but an excellent use of plot locks. Each of VLR's endings has been retooled, so as Sigma gains insight into one player, Phi gains insight into another.

No-Leaf Clover by Flairina

• Status: In-Progress
• Synopsis: A self-insert into the role of Clover during Virtue's Last Reward.
• Comments: An exquisite fanfictional-study of both Clover's character and the timelines of VLR. Flairina!Clover needs to and finds a careful balance between influencing the future using her meta-knowledge, while avoiding exposure as an inserted impostor. This tension develops into an absolutely masterful understand of all the timelines worthy of Zero Escape as a whole.

The Waiting Game by VampireBadger

• Synopsis: When Carlos travels back in time during the events of Zero Time Dilemma, he crosses paths with Aoi just before Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Clover and Alice following Virtue's Last Reward.

Electric Sheep by Kiichu

• Recommended by: Mandichaos
• Status: Complete
• Pairing: Luna/Dio
• Synopsis: Post-VLR. After discussing the fate of the failure with her superior, Luna is left in charge of Dio.
• Comments: Excellent character development for Dio, which is why the pairing works - but without spoiling it too much, the fic also doesn't shy away from why this pairing doesn't work either. This fic made me actually care about Dio, which is impressive considering what a two-dimensional jerk he is in canon (although there are reasons for it). If the pairing is making you do a double-take, don't let that stop you from checking it out.
