These are recommendations made by tropers for Thief, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. No-name recommendations will be zapped. Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.
Do note when a fanfic may head into sexually explicit or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.
The Jackal

- Status: Complete
- Synopsis: A look into the mind of Viktoria, showing her perspective during her suicide attack on Soulforge. Takes a slight departure from how it was depicted in canon (the cutscene at the start of the Sabotage at Soulforge mission), but it's nothing major and shouldn't be jarring. Oneshot fic, though a fairly long one.
- Comments: It's hard to believe the author when she claims that she didn't particularly care for the character... because she nailed it down perfectly. This fic will remind you just how scary and alien (yet sympathetic in a strange way) Viktoria really is.
Correspondence of Thieves by Digital Nightfall et al

- Status: Complete
- Synopsis: A Garrett-less, original storyline featuring a group of thieves in The City. Based on an email-based role-play (e-play) conducted in 1999 & 2000 between five individuals brought together by their love of the first Thief game. The five authors took turns telling the story from the perspective of invented characters until a complete adventure was told, and then posted online one chapter at a time. In 2005, Digital Nightfall chose to rewrite the e-play into a novel. The novel expands upon and revises the plot of the original roleplay, while remaining true to the personalities of the five who invented it.
- Comments: I think this is one of the best (and owing to its origins, one of the most unusual) fan-written projects set (somewhat vaguely) in the Thief universe. It's all the better because it avoids being a predictably derivative work with Garrett as the main star. And given its serial-like nature, it's not exactly a brief fanfic, so you'll have plenty of story to read on a long-term basis.
Fan Missions

- Synopsis: It starts when Lady Calendra invites Garrett to an exclusive party... and quickly goes downhill from there.
- Comments: Takes place over 7 missions and is of one of the best examples of a fan-campaign to date. Nearly everything is customized, from the health shields to the sounds, to the multiple movies (even if they are a little cheesy). The first level of "Legacy" even features a hidden mini-Tomb of Horrors.
The Inverted Manse (Thief 2) by David Riegel (Sledge)

- Synopsis: Sequel to Cult of the Resurrection (Thief 1), Garrett tracks down the origin of the Spirit Stone he stole to a Hammerite mining town.
- Comments: Three missions in one (instead of the usual different difficulties) that take alternate routes through the same areas, plus some exclusives. Full intro and outro videos, custom audio, the works. It's not bloated like some longer fan-campaigns, each of the three missions can be completed in a decent time-frame.
T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age (Thief 2) by multiple creators

- Synopsis: The plot takes place during the events of "Thief 2", but with a new protagonist named Zaya, a spice merchant. It starts with her getting ambushed and fleeing to an abandoned mansion to escape some thugs.
- Comments: This 13 mission fan-campaign is one of the longest to date. Entertaining plot, great level design, multiple videos for each mission, Zaya has her own sound-set, and even a detailed walkthrough is available if running into trouble. It has nearly everything an entire commercially developed Thief game should have, kitchen sinks included.

The Black Parade (Thief Gold) by various authors

- Synopsis: A horror-focused prequel to Thief The Dark Project about another thief named Hume, he comes back to The City after 7 years in a prison labor camp and immediately goes back to crime. However he is soon requested by an old friend and other criminals to seek out mysterious artifacts held in dangerous and supernatural locations, things get worse from there.
- Comments: This 10 mission fan-campaign is one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by Thief fans and is as beautiful as it is terrifying. A must play for anyone who enjoys the series.
