dragon library

  • Recommended by Gamma Wolf
  • This is an older fan fiction archive with mostly DeadFics.

Butterfly

  • Recommended by Dee_Ailf
  • The queen of canon divergence and what ifs, and also putting Mat into the polycule. Not a Tuon lover. Has a devastating post-AMOL fic with Tuon that is prefect nonetheless. One of the most prolific authors in ao3, her longest series, which takes season 1 of the TV show and runs with it to the book plot, has become one of the biggest and better written canon rewrites of the book. Her explicit stories usually lean a bit into bdsm, for if its not your thing. All tagged though! Still there is plenty of plotty and romantic bits to read through!!!

    General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

No Daughter of Mine by Blue Dragon

  • Recommended by Helly
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Mat has followed Tuon to rule in Seanchan, but now his daughter can channel, and he will do anything to keep her from being collared. Fortunately he's been planning for this disaster for years...
  • Comments: one-shot, but it lets you wishing it was longer. A great story, everyone is in character and it feels like it could be part of RJ's planned-but-never written Seanchan-centered sequel.

Resurrection byBanares

  • Recommended by Mimus 15
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: "The Aiel, the Aes Sedai, the Asha'man. Remnants of their former people, hunted by all after Tarmon Gai'don. This is the story of how they arose from the ashes and defeated the Seanchan. This is the story of their Resurrection."
  • Comments: Interesting read. It's based off of Aviendha's visions of the future of the Aiel (and the rest of the world). I found it enjoyable.

Wheel in the Sky byBastille Kain

  • Recommended by Gamma Wolf
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Bunch of characters from a couple of shows get chucked into the Wheel of Time world. Including Buffy characters and Highlander ones. And some others show characters
  • Comments:
    • Baughn: Horrible fanboyism ahoy. The crossover characters pretty much steal the show.

Youngest Channeler by Viggen

  • Recommended by Kalvan
  • Status: Active, but updated slowly.
  • Synopsis: Saidar changes those who channel it, especially the very young. Hidden among girls wearing white, the youngest channeler begins her trip through the white marble halls toward attainment of the shawl, but her enemies are legion.
  • Comments: The main character is autistic, which results in some incredible interactions with the rest of the cast. Already at ca.140,000 words long.

A Different Wheel by st122

  • Recommended by Kalvan
  • Status: Dead; last updated June 2013
  • Synopsis: A few, not so few anymore, chapters of 'what if Tigraine still lived'. This fic shows how one character still being alive can radically alter events. A must read.
  • Comments: a very interesting Mirror of the Wheel invloving Rand and Galad.

Ta'veren by Geralt

  • Recommended by Kalvan, Metal King 1417, RagnarTheSemiGreen
  • Status: Dead (see Author's Profile Page)
  • Synopsis: When Rand was 13, Lews started manifesting in the boy's dreams, passing on to him the knowledge of how to control his Ta'veren ability. Seven years later, Moiraine will arrive to find Two Rivers a very different place from what it is suppose to be.
  • Comments: Remember the changes that happened to the Two Rivers offscreen in The Fires of Heaven? Now, they're happening before the beginning of the first book...

Naming the Forsaken by Mask1

  • Recommended By: Silver Wizard
  • Status: Dead (last updated January 2007)
  • Synopsis: We know little of The Forsaken. This is a look into the mind and motives of Balthamel. How and why he fell in the Age of legends. How he got his name and his contribution in the War of Power.
  • Comments: A very interesting take on Eval Ramman (Balthamel)'s fall to the Shadow, and very well written as well. I'm rather disappointed that it's not finished.

The Search of Truth by TEOL

  • Recommended By: Silver Wizard
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The Dark One sets Aran'gar and Osan'gar on the task of discovering who killed Asmodean. Can they unravel Randland's most mysterious mystery?
  • Comments:

Forsaken Tales by TEOL

  • Recommended By: Silver Wizard
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Thirteen short stories, one for each of the Forsaken. Who are they? Why did they turn to the Shadow?
  • Comments: An interesting and well written set of one-shots giving us glimpses into the minds and lives of the individual Forsaken at the end of the Age of Legends.

A Dream Within a Dream by TEOL

  • Recommended By: Silver Wizard
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Asmodean has a dream one night while sleeping in Rand's camp, after which he is visited by Lanfear. One-shot.
  • Comments: An interesting take on Asmodean's mindset while serving as Rand's teacher.

    Crossover Fics

From Over the Sea by Nimbus Llewelyn

  • Recommended by The Enmity Of Ages 1994
  • Crossover: Doctor Who
  • Status: Complete. The author has vaguely alluded to a sequel.
  • Synopsis: The Tenth Doctor visits Seanchan before The Dragon Reborn. The Seanchan collar his companion. They regret it and Rand has yet another enormously powerful entity to worry about.

A Darker Shade of Light Parts 1 and 2 by st122 (Crossover with Harry Potter}

  • Pairings: Harry and Ginny
  • Recommended by Kalvan
  • Crossover: Harry Potter
  • Status:
    • Part 1: Complete
    • Part 2: Dormant
  • Synopsis:
    • Part 1: After a rough start to the year, what will happen when Harry disappears? Prophecies, gateways, powers unknown and the ages of time combine to change Harry's life and the way he sees the world.
    • Part 2: The world stands poised as Harry and Ginny return from their journey. Yet, things are different despite all that he thought he knew. How will he come to terms with who he is as his world is turned upside down?
  • Comments: Probably the best Wheel of Time/Harry Potter crossover this troper has yet seen.

Secret Smiles by Psycho Leopard

  • Recommended by moonaft
  • Status: Completed.

  • Pairing(s): pre-Mat/Tuon, moving into Mat/Tuon
  • Comments: A very nice Perspective Flip from Tuon, starting in Crossroads of Twilight, and moving into Knife of Dreams.

  • Recommended by: Silver Wizard
  • Pairings: Mat Cauthon/Birgitte Silverbow
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Mat and Birgitte get very drunk and do some things that they later regret. They attempt to forget about each other, but Mat finds himself increasingly attracted to a woman who was previously just a friend.
  • Comments:

Different by Moonlight by Tedronai

  • Recommended by: Silver Wizard
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Tam al'Thor/Alanna Mosvani
  • Synopsis: Emond's Field was not the only thing that looked different by moonlight...
  • Comments: Set during the time Alanna and Verin spent in The Two Rivers, before Perrin and co. showed up in The Shadow Rising. Two-shot.

"I love you more than I can do'' by contactcrisis

  • Recommended by: Dee_Ailf
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Rand al'Thor/Mat Cauthon, Asmodean/Rand al'Thor (temporal)
  • Synopsis: The Aelfinn tell Mat that he must tie himself to the Lord of the Morning if he doesn't want to be tamed and chained by the Daughter of the Nine Moons, but he struggles with accepting fate and trying to defy it. Rand has a complicated relationship with Asmodean and his duty, but the person he's always longed to be with is Mat.

"The thought of tying himself to Rand should’ve been plainly a gladdening one, because he did want in every way to belong to him. Only, around Rand, Mat could no longer tell whether whatever the Pattern sent his way was a noose or a gift. Most of the time it did not matter—because it was Rand, and Mat had wanted him too long to be smart about anything around him—which he suspected was part of the problem. Some of his feelings for Rand were so deeply profound that Mat worried he would do foolish things—would trip into a pit of his own design and think falling was living."

  • Comments: They're so toxic and still so passionately in love. Startingly in character for fic that has Rand hooking up with Asmodean as a significant plot point, but then he's always been self-destructive. Loved how it treated prophecy. I think avoiding the polycule (the women I mean) was a bit of a cop out, but I also think the OTP approach works better for the kind of history the author is trying to tell, with the claustrophobic atmosphere. A classic reread for me.

'Wab'Shar (Bonded) series by Asha_Mage

  • Recommended by: Dee_Ailf
  • Status: Second fic, In Progress
  • Pairings: Rand al'Thor/Mat Cauthon
  • Synopsis: Desperate to protect Mat and keep him by his side, Rand unwittingly Bonds Mat as his Warder, and in so doing sets off a chain of events which alter the course of history forever.
  • Comments: Rewrite of the books under the premise that Rand bonded Mat. Very IC, it also goes into worldbuilding for the blank spaces or the opportunities not taken in canon extrapolating in very interesting ways. Future polycule as per author notes, right now is very Cauthor centric.

Casualties of love by glasslilies

  • Recommended by: Dee_Ailf
  • Pairings: Rand Al'Thor/Aviendha/Mat Cauthon/Elayne Trakand (in this case the polycule goes in all directions re;romantic feels)
  • Status: Complete (could there be continuation? Yes. But it is finished.)
  • Synopsis: There was a sharpness in Mat's eyes when he looked up at her. “Do you hate me, Elayne?” he asked, all softness.

“You’ve made your dislike for nobles and Aes Sedai quite clear,” Elayne said dryly, smoothing her hands over the folds of her dress. “You can hardly fault me for merely reciprocating your feelings. My very nature vexes you.”

  • Comments: The fun thing about this one is piercing together what changed from the books to make this situation possible. Starting with Elayne, Mat and Aviendha going to Ebou Dar I won't spoil any developments. Great characterization and chemistry between everyone. It's super difficult to make a four sided polycule feel right but this gets it. Not for Min lovers; there no bashing but she's irrelevant to this story.
