Proof that the remaining 10% is worth driving an ambulance into the Thames for here.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Rivers of London fanfics, all of which have to be signed or reviewed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic you like to the list (though self-recommendations aren't allowed), but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add your review to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexually explicit or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Sixthlight’s fanfic on Ao3

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Pretty much anything by Sixthlight is guaranteed to be a good. Her long form, for want of a nail style aus are absolute gems, and her shorter works are equally worth a read.

Mardia’s fanfic on Ao3

  • Redommended by: Adothan
  • The Rivers of London books, especially further into the series, are painfully lacking in cute little domestic moments between Team Folly. Luckily we have fanfic to make up for that, and Mardia’s oneshots do not disappoint.

     General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Though I Sang in My Chains Like the Sea by lightgetsin

  • Recommended by: Star Valkyrie
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: “The world has changed. Yes. I receive undeniable proof of that every day when that electronic coffee pot of yours starts up on its own.” And a new case for this tiny unit of London Police tasked with solving magic crimes seems to suggest that magic might be changing too.

The Birdcage by Philomytha

  • Recommended by: Star Valkyrie

Let Me Steal This Moment by aseaofhoney

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "When the new Beverley Brook was born he felt it, because of course he did, because on some weird and metaphysical level they were the same person. He felt the wonder of being newly alive dimly, like a muscle memory. He felt love looking up into the eyes of a mother that wasn't his. He felt connected to the magic of the city like he hadn't done in over a hundred years, and it was bittersweet in every way."
  • Pairings: Beverley Brook & Previous Beverley Brook, Beverley Brook(s)/Peter Grant
  • Comments: A really great Beverley Brook character study and possibly my favorite fic to come out of Lies Sleeping. There simply isn't enough Beverley fic in this fandom.

Changes of Perspective by Sixthlight

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In 1945, the prison camp of Ettersberg is bombed from altitude. In 2009, Peter Grant graduates university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. It’s a magical new world.
  • Comments: This is a Peter/Nightingale fic, but its largely plot driven and also a really interesting take on what the magical community outside the Folly might look like, and other ways that Peter might have stumbled across it. It also has a really nice oneshot sequel.

Personal Motivations by Sixthlight

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Abigail Kamara gets hired for a new and interesting hacking job, the last person she expects to see is her cousin Peter, until last year a detective in the Metropolitan Police Service. Peter’s putting together a team - but the job turns out to be twistier than either he or Abigail realise…
  • Comments: Plot-driven Leverage Fusion! Who doesn't want to see the cast of Ro L pull a heist? It's also all written from Abigail's perspective which is wonderful. We don't see enough of her in this fandom and Sixthlight captures her voice really well. This is a Beverley/Peter/Thomas OT3 fic, but the pairing takes a backseat to the plot because the fic is from Abigail POV. For those who are interested, Sixthlight has written some prequel-oneshots for this AU which focus more on the relationship and these can be found through the series link on ao3.

The Walls of Where by Philomytha

Four and Twenty Lovebirds by stardust_rain

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Peter Grant is a contestant on the 2016 series of The Great British Bake Off. Thomas Nightingale is its famously stoic, poker-faced judge. The nation’s running commentary is their background soundtrack as they flirt onscreen. It’s going to be a very long ten weeks.
  • Pairing: Peter Grant/Thomas Nightingale
  • Comments: A really cute shipping fic with a heavy side of examining how the British public treats GBBO contestants and the entitlement we feel towards celebrities personal lives, all told through people's reactions to the story's events on twitter, tumblr, and over text. This is also a really nice use of Ro L's ever expanding cast of secondary characters, most of whom we never really get to see in fanfiction.

Oxford Summer by Confettispaghetti

  • Recommended by: Adothan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: This was not a reversible reaction; and that is the problem, really. It was unsustainable to continue on the path they were headed down. Unimaginable. Thus, the Agreement was born. It was for the best. It is for the best.Or, in which David has exams and Thomas has other ideas. (It takes time, learning how to be free.)
  • Pairing: Thomas Nightingale/David Mellenby
  • Comments: Lovely pre-cannon, pre-ettersberg fic about Thomas and David. It falls into a lot of those sad, pining historical gays tropes but the ending is largely hopeful, the humor hits just right, and the prose is beautifully written. Made me forget that David barely exists in cannon.
