Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.
The Universe of the Four Gods

- Synopsis: What if Miaka and Yui were never separated when they entered the book the first time around?
- Comment: One of the most intriguing premises for an FY fanfiction this troper has ever encountered. It is interesting to see how the plot unfolds differently from the usual, now that Yui is in the mix. Fic is recently being re-written, so some of the more rough points have already been polished, making for an even better read.

- Synopsis: Short, introspective stories about the different characters after the events of Fushigi Yuugi.
- Comment: In a fandom prone to tons of self-insert / Mary Sue fics, these kinds of in-character, well-elaborated and well-written vignettes are hard to come by. Currently marked as "complete", but author will update sporadically.
Fifteen Years Ago... by LadySage

- Status: Complete
- Synopsis: Thirty-year-old Miaka has moved on with her life after The Universe of the Four Gods, but she can't help but reflect on the journey that had been, and what could have been.
- Comment: This fic presents a more realistic take on the ending of FY and beyond, in that it explores the progression of Miaka's life after being separated from Tamahome - ihe initial months after, the years leading to her recovery, until the present point in time fifteen years later. Although very much different from the canon ending, it brings just as much closure, and is satisfactory just the same.
The Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil by Kelfin

- Synopsis: A series of oneshots centered around the Warriors of Seiryuu.
- Comment: Very compelling and poignant character studies of the Seiryuu Seishi. Exquisite, exquisite writing.
Starlit Reflections by Raye

- Status: Dead (last updated in 2001)
- Synopsis: What if Nuriko were a woman disguised as a man instead of the other way around?
- Pairing(s): Nuriko/Hotohori, Miaka/Tamahome
- Comment: Though sadly abandoned, the worldbuilding and characterization of this fic make it worth your time. Nuriko feels natural and compelling, her family is fascinating, Hotohori is understandable, and Miaka is more complex than most writers let her be. Note that there are actually fifteen chapters available. The last five aren't linked on the main page but on the "Notes on Starlit Reflections" page.
