    Songs, Covers and Reprises
"Let It Go" Covers
Frozen's "Let It Go" & Vivaldi's "Winter" by The Piano Guys.
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: A masterful combination of both themes in cello and piano.
  • Comments: Simply put, lovely. It's a masterful piece and its video is no slouch either.

Let It Go/Let Her Go (Mash-up) by Sam Tsui.
  • Recommended by Kyo X Tohru 101.
  • Synopsis: A mash-up of Let It Go with a current popular song, Let Her Go by the Passengers.
  • Comments: Quite well-performed, as are most of Sam Tsui's songs.

Let It Go (Africanized Tribal Cover) by Alex Boyé Ft. One Voice Children's Choir.
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: A refreshing performance of Let It Go with touches of Africa's culture.
  • Comments: A very interesting version, to say the least. It's not Idina Menzel, but the performance has some real talent behind it and the overall work shows how much effort was put into it.

Let It Go by Caleb Hyles, plus the Duet Version.
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: As the title says, it's a cover of Let It Go by Caleb Hyles.
  • Comments: Let's just say that if you ever thought that "Let It Go" was a song that no man could properly sing, this just might make you reconsider.

Let It Go by Screamo
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: Let It Go, Metal Version. 'nuff said.
  • Comments: Just when you thought you heard every version of Frozen, here you got the most hardcore of them all.

Disney and Pixar Sings Let It Go by Brian Hull
Let It Go by The Last Sleepless City
  • Recommended by: Mort 08
  • Synopsis: A pop-punk take on the song.
  • Comments: Captures the exhilaration and fun of the original version effortlessly while standing out as its own piece, mainly through the use of an Epic Riff. Would have fit well in the end credits.

Let It Go by Negrayscow
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: Another rock cover of Let It Go.
  • Comments: This one's yet another above-decent cover.

Let It Go (Chicago) by WGN News (feat. Dan Ponce)
  • Recommended by RoseAndHeather
  • Synopsis: Newscaster Dan Ponce, of WGN News in Chicago, asks Chicago to "let go" of their hatred of the ongoing polar vortex.
  • Comments: Dan Ponce is a founding member of the famed a capella group Straight No Chaser, and his voice certainly proves it. The lyrics, meanwhile, are witty, accurate, and fit the song beautifully.

Let It Go Videos (link is dead) by The Nostalgia Critic (reupload link here)
  • Recommended by Cyclone
  • Synopsis: Tired of Let It Go covers? Well, if you're looking through this list, probably not, but The Nostalgia Critic is.
  • Comments: A hilarious commentary on the sheer glut of "Let It Go" covers found on YouTube. Done as a cover of Let It Go. Posted here for those who don't already follow The Nostalgia Critic and don't mind someone poking a little fun at the craze we're all part of.

Let It Go by Kyounosuke Yoshitate
  • Recommended by Cyclone
  • Synopsis: A traditional Japanese take on the song.

Libera by O1ivette
  • Recommended by Meshakhad
  • Synopsis: A Classical Latin cover of Let It Go.
  • Comments: The quality of this is comparable to the official covers, but it's amateur. One person both wrote a Latin version of Let It Go (keep in mind that no one in the world speaks it as a primary language) and performed it.

Let It Go (Genderflipped) by NateWantsToBattle and Jess the Dragoon.
Let Go of the Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (Mashup) by One Bored Jeu or Patrick Pons Ramirez (YouTube)
  • Recommended by Geek Code Red
  • Synopsis: Let It Go, a triumphant song about being alone, meets Boulevard of Broken Dreams, a sad song about being alone.
  • Comments: Works surprisingly well. As both a fan of Frozen and Green Day, this is... well, music to my ears.

Let It Burn by thefeminineending
  • Recommended by Sarcasticgirl 777
  • Synopsis: AU Fire Cover of “Let it Go” from Disney’s Frozen

Do you want to build a Snowman - Elsa's Reprise

  • Recommended by Treguard, darksecret
  • Synopsis: Elsa's after Anna's been frozen.
  • Comments: I wish this could have found its way into the movie itself.

Of Course I want to build a Snowman
  • Recommended by Treguard
  • Synopsis: A counterpoint to the original song. Sure to be updated with someone interleaving it.
  • Comments: Again, I wish this could have been cut into the movie.

Disney's Frozen Medley by Albert and Tiffany Chang
  • Recommended by Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: With Violin, Viola, and Piano, a mix and match of Frozen's "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?", "Let It Go", and "For The First Time In Forever" wonderfully put together.
  • Comments: Simply put, if you enjoyed Frozen's soundtrack, you must listen to this one.

Hills of Powdered Snow and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? By BlueNctrn
  • Recommended by Webs SOTE and Alexlayer
  • Crossover With: Kingdom Hearts
  • Synopsis: Field and Battle Theme music for an imagining of what it'd be like if Frozen became a World in Kingdom Hearts III.
  • Comments: I love the way these two compliment one another — the composer was shooting for it to be like Yoko Shimomura's style, and hit it spot on in my opinion, especially in the Battle theme version of Do you Want to Build a Snowman?. And its amazing how both can actually blend in like that of other overworld themes in the games. You can hear a demonstration of what I mean right here. Definitely give it a listen if you're a Frozen and a Kingdom Hearts Fan.

Do You Wanna Build a Snowman (Wedding Reprise) by aihara-tenshi, lyrics by emmasdisneyworld
  • Recommended by sardns
  • Synopsis: Elsa sings to Anna when she gets wedding jitters.
  • Comments: Started as a "what-if" scenario on tumblr, someone drew fan art of it, then someone sang it. Overall, a nice effort from everyone involved.
  • Sarcasticgirl 777: replaced the link, the video isn't the original but does give credit to the creator. If anyone can find the original post feel free to replace the one I put.

Will You Help Me Hide a Body? by Mary Medley
  • Recommended By: Warrior Sparrow
  • Synopsis: A parody version of "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", in which the accident appears to have messed with Anna's head and turned her into a serial killer who tries to get her sister to help her hide the bodies.
  • Comments: Black Comedy throughout, and goes into Nightmare Fuel at the end, so it's a great song if you're into that (and even if you're not). The little comments made throughout by Anna are an extra creepy bonus, especially if you listen through to the end.

Do You Wanna Build A Snowman (Reprise) ❅ Disney's Frozen by Miss Belle (VA)
  • Recommended by dudeu
  • Synopsis: A fan reprise as Elsa rushes over to Anna right after the latter does her Heroic Sacrifice and magically freezes into ice completely.
  • Comments: Seriously, this is the reprise of Do You Wanna Build A Snowman. There are some awkward sections in the music but the lyrics, tempo and context are very grief-inducing. The delivery of the lines are to die for. Guess that's the closest thing we have to a perfect official reprise seeing that one was made for the film but was ultimately cut.

The Queen's True Love, or Sweet Arendelle music by Smuldre, lyrics by Olofa
  • Recommended By: Mr Canoehead
  • Synopsis: A folk song of Arendelle, ostensibly about how much Elsa loves her country.
  • Comments: 100% Elsanna Double Entendre. Surprisingly catchy, too.

They Let Go by Rob Manion, sung by Lucy Wilkins
  • Recommended by: CJ Croen 1393
  • Synopsis: What if Disney decided to go through with making Elsa the villain? Well, here's her hypothetical Villain Song, which also adds some exposition in the form of Elsa's motive and her attempts to manipulate Hans into breaking Anna's heart so she can get rid of her.
  • Comments: Has all the classic ear marks of a Disney Villain Song: Catchiness, gloating, Parental Bonuses, a killer (no pun intended) Motive Rant with a pinch of Unreliable Narrator and a heaping helping of ham.

A Symphonic Metal Tribute to Frozen by The L-Train.
  • Recommended by: Alexlayer
  • Synopsis: A combination of "Frozen Heart", "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", "For the First Time in Forever", "Vuelie" and - of course - "Let It Go" into a single, instrumental, metal symphony like no other.
  • Comments: This one's a must. It will rock your ears!

Do You Wanna Kill The Batman?
  • Recommended by Cyclone
  • Synopsis: A song by Harley Quinn to The Joker set to the tune of Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?
  • Comments: Perfectly captures Harley's bubbly insanity.

  • If you ship Kristanna, her fics are pretty much a required read. Lots of one-shots and at least one rather gothic (no, not THAT kind of gothic) multi-chap fic, spanning from K to M, fluff to angst. Characterization for Anna and Kristoff are spot-on. There's just too much wonderful things to say; read her fics.

  • Mainly a Helsa writer, with a propensity of crafting interesting AUs that beautifully capture the themes and characters of the Canon despite their completely different premises. Poetic and eloquent, her works are certainly well worth the read for those who ship Helsa.

Searlait (now Shards Of Arendelle) on Tumblr, and AO3

  • author of Frozen: A Dark Retelling and other stories that, in my opinion, capture the personalities of the Frozen cast not only accurately, but also give them, if possible, even more realism and humanity. Go read them.

    General Fics
General Fics
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.
Patience And Time by CallenAmakuni
  • Recommended by Dragabana
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Set after Frozen. They're one of a kind: that's what Elsa was told about her powers. And she believed it. What if she hadn't been looking hard enough? A tale of a soldier and a queen.
  • Comments: The first three or so chapters were written a long time ago, and it shows, but it is quite an interesting story. Very good characterization of the Frozen cast, with a special shoutout to their Elsa portrayal, whose interactions with the story's OC can be deep, heartwarming or hilarious. Contains a vivid but very sensible depiction of depression.

Song of the White Hun by Hydroxide
  • Recommended by Fluffy Mc Chicken
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Set after Frozen 2, Arendelle and the Northuldra come into conflict with a Mongol khanate that had been trapped in the the Enchanted Forest, and now seek vengeance for King Runeard enslaving them to build his Great Dam.

Daughters of Arendelle by Onora
  • Recommended by Roxkstargirl
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: The story picks up about a week after the events in Frozen. The sisters are learning to be sisters and friends again. As well as what it means to be Queen and heir to the kingdom. WARNING: This story contains violence, blood and death. It also contains snow sisters and ice bros moments. Just even things out.
The Royal Reunion by robert3A-SN
  • Recommended by Adept
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Post movie: The King and Queen of Arendelle were presumed dead for 3 years - yet return to Arendelle 6 months after the Great Thaw. But the wounds and scars of the past - on Elsa and Anna - the lingering fears of the present, and other unforeseen consequences make it a very complicated reunion.
  • Comments: A very thoughtful fic about the difficulties of healing from the past, as well as a very artful depiction of familial love—how even the best intentions can hurt our loved ones, and how we can still choose to love and accept each other, in spite of their flaws.

Elsa, The Snow Queen by emmamagickingdom
  • Recommended by Mort 08
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Soon after the inspiring creation of her own ice palace, Elsa experiments and creates a creature that matches her in all aspects — the stunningly gorgeous ice-pegasus. Sitting regally but precariously on its back, she lets the creature take her up into the heavens, knowing that she is finally free from the cold rejection of Arendelle — and is warm amongst ice and snow.
  • Comments: A series of oneshots about the ice creations Elsa makes while in solitude. Beautifully written and very creative.

The Ice Bahind Bars by Lany 19

  • Recommended by: Cool Nick Nack
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A dark retelling of Frozen where the king of Arendelle is an abusive and phychotic monster who has hated his daughter and abused his wife since the day she was born. Unable to take the abuse anymore, after Anna is accidentally stuck by Elsa's magic, she plans to escape with her children, but only manages to take Anna. Unfairly blaming Elsa for his wife and Anna's "abduction", he locks her away and tortures her everyday and night, while Anna grows up among thieves, not remembering her former life. Until one day, she is sent to steal from the Arendelle castle, and discovers a broken Elsa.

Pygmalion by KaleidoscopeKreation
  • Recommended by SyncreticVenture
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In which Hans discovers that trophies are more trouble than they're worth.
  • Comments: An interesting alternate ending fic where Anna's sacrifice isn't enough to thaw her. Hans kills Elsa and takes his place as Arendelle's leader, making the dubious decision to keep Anna's ice statue in the throne room. The author says it best: "[Hans] has always been a mirror; the issue is when he can project whatever he wants onto the one he is reflecting, everything begins to unravel." Warning, it is dark, but also marvelous, with some of the best writing this troper has seen in the Frozen fandom.

The Sky Is Awake

What In Heaven by Olofa
  • Recommended by MisterCanoehead
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Elsa discovers, to her discomfort, that someone has started a church to worship her as the reincarnation of Skaði. She tries to get them to stop. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Comments: A short, light-hearted fun read. Adorable snark between the sisters. By the author of the lyrics to The Queen's True Love.

To Quiet the Storm by Zoeyz
  • Recommended by Alpha Wolf
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Anna stumbles into one of Elsa's nightmares. Literally.
  • Comments: Exactly what it says on the tin, but oh so lovely in its descriptions and symbolism.

Anna Lets It Go by robert3A-SN
  • Recommended by Alpha Wolf
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Post movie: Even a bubbly, optimistic princess can be as broken and scarred as a Snow Queen. Anna shows this when she learns the truth about what happened years ago from the trolls, and is furious - at the trolls for scaring her vulnerable family that night, at her family for being so scared, and at everyone for not giving her and Elsa a chance - or choice - to turn out different.
  • Comments: I stated once that even the sun must cry sometimes, and there are few things that better exemplify this. While the author has written several other Frozen fics, and I encourage you to check them out too, this is one of his best pieces, and definitely a must-read for anyone who feels that the trolls could have explained things a bit better.

The Witch and the Spare by robert3A-SN
  • Recommended by Alpha Wolf
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Post movie: Without Anna, Elsa believed she was a monster, and had no one to tell her different or defend her. Without Elsa, Anna believed she was a useless spare, and had no one to tell her different or defend her. But now, even when they still don't believe in themselves, they believe in - and can finally stand up on behalf of - each other.
  • Comments: The author has done it again! Distilling exactly how much these two sisters need each other down to a single story, written in beautiful symmetry and with enough feels to knock out a reindeer. A must-read!

Frozen: The Snow Queen by Halm Vendrella
  • Recommended by sardns
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Living for so long in fear of her powers, Elsa never quite realized that the most difficult part of being the Snow Queen might not always be the "snow" part, as happens when she, Anna and Kristoff travel to a nearby kingdom to secure a trade agreement, and find sinister goings-on in the power system. A story of magic and mystery... of desire and responsibility... of love and family.
  • Comments: Excellent characterization, and a nice blend of political intrigue, action and mystery. There's some very un-Disney violence (specifically, a scene where Elsa is ambushed in a quarry, her guards are killed and Elsa herself passes out), but that's around for only a scene or two. Seems to have accurately foreshadowed the publishing of the Erica David book A Warm Welcome.

The Thief That Never Stole
  • Recommended by Yagi_Takeru
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: Winter is coming, and so are the wolves. An odd, mysterious girl born from the wilds struggles to try and join her own kind. After a not-so-great first meeting with Elsa, she stops an attempted assassination and ends up being dragged in the Ice Queen's life by an entranced and excited Anna. Elsa would be fine with it... if only the girl would ever take off her damned hood.
  • Comments: Amazing Characterization and just the right amount of suspense. A story about adapting, understanding, and a little bit of ass kicking. Well worth the read.

Have Courage, Elsa
  • Recommended by Chef Failure
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Elsa has lived a happier life ever since the Great Thaw, albeit one in insecurity and self-loathing. As she tries to confront her inner demons, a true monster motivated by revenge approaches Arendelle, threatening to strip the Snow Queen of everything she had loved and fought for.
  • Comments: A direct sequel that explores the more mythological aspects of the Frozen universe. The author does have a tendency to go off into wild tangents in his notes, but never in the actual story itself.

Unto Death
  • Recommended by Warrior Sparrow
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Killed when Elsa struck her with her powers when they were children, Anna's come back as an undead wight roaming the castle halls, knocking on doors and calling her sister out to play.
  • Comments: A very well-written fic, probably the most expanded upon of those fics in the Wight!Anna-verse inspired by an increasingly popular horror remix of Do You Want to Build a Snowman. The characterization is great and the fear that Elsa feels is presented very well, along with the creepiness of Wight!Anna.

Fire and Ice by KingdomKeepersGir
  • Recommended by Cynel 1
  • Status: Taken Down
  • Synopsis: a Alternate Universe Fic where Anna has Fire powers but after a accident as a little girl her parents get her memories erased about her powers.
  • Comments: Good premise, but the events and dialogue- with a few exceptions involving Anna's powers- are copied directly from the movie itself. The author was trying to do In Spite of a Nail, but it just comes off as lazy.

Songs of Ice and Snow by thefireplanet
  • Recommended by Ringo Star
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: There are burdens to being queen that have nothing to do with a curse. There are duties expected of the princess that have nothing to do with being a sister. And the course of true love never did run smooth.
  • Comments: A post-movie fic exploring how the events of the movie have affected Elsa and Anna. The cast is very in-character, Anna in particular. There is Kristoff/Anna and some Elsa/male OC but this is still very much a plot-focused story.

Bribery, Force, and Other Nefarious Tactics by yumi michiyo
  • Recommended by InEdibleCake, Mikowmer
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: Some of the ways Anna tried to get Elsa to open the door, and the one time she did. Oneshot.
  • Comments: A short story about the absolutely adorable ways Anna tried to coax Elsa out.
    • Mikowmer: This is one of the funnier fics I've read from Frozen. It's short, sweet, and will make you laugh!

Scarlet Scarlet by Summerslightning
  • Recommended by SR Firefox
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: Anna contracts scarlet fever during her eighth winter, and Elsa's nightmares begin to become reality. Oneshot.
  • Comments: This is the author's only fic, but worth a read at least once.

Your Aunt Elsa by robert3A-SN
  • Recommended by Mort 08
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Anna only told Elsa she was having a baby hours ago. Yet as Anna and Kristoff sleep, Elsa winds up introducing herself to her future niece or nephew - and making heartfelt promises about what their future together will bring.
  • Comments: There's too many good things to say about this one. Just do yourself a favor and read it.

Monster by MEOW-I-am-a-cat
  • Recommended by darksecret
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: AU where Anna remembers the night from the beginning of the movie, and it completely changes her perspective of her sister.
  • Comments: Chapters are short, and some are mostly song lyrics, but it's definitely worth the read. It's an interesting What Could Have Been story.

A Bird's Song by counterpunch
  • Recommended by rowanwould
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Anna moves on without Elsa. "Anna hates that sometimes she thinks about her. It's been fifteen years and still Elsa exists only in the absence of things."
  • Comments: A short 2 chapter fiction, it nevertheless paints a heartbreaking picture of what might have happened with Anna if Elsa had never revealed her secret.

The Storm Inside by Vercingetorix1234
  • Recommended by Shedinja 123
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After the events of the movie, Anna and Elsa's dead parents, the old King and Queen, begin haunting Arendelle. The sisters have to figure out what's going on and put a stop to it.
  • Comments: This story is well-written and has some interesting character development. There are some good plot twists, too. It's not your usual Frozen fic, but it's worth looking into.

Frozen - A Dark Retelling by Searlait (now ShardsOfArendelle)
  • Recommended by: Leliel
  • Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.
  • Synopsis: A somewhat darker version of the movie's events, with added depth to all characters (minus Olaf, who Word of God says isn't appearing).
  • Comments: Despite what the term darker implies, the darkness is accomplished mainly by more complex storytelling rather than grimdark for its own sake. For example, Kristoff is given a reason for his misanthropy (a very Jerkass former employer that killed a reindeer he was taking care of), and Elsa's incredibly poor "conceal don't feel" mantra is given a reason (that was actually to help her with politics, not her powers). New scenes are added in some places, doing things like expand on what Hans is doing while Anna's out looking for Elsa, add scenes from Anna and Elsa's post-accident childhood, and add new scenes to Elsa's journey up the North Mountain. Some scenes are changed drastically: for example, Anna and Kristoff first meet at Oaken's, in this one Anna is mildly injured when she falls into the creek. Kristoff happens to come upon her and must transport her the remainder of the way to Oaken's store to get her new clothes and treatment.
    • Mild Draco in Leather Pants for Hans, but nothing that lightens him more than being more Affably Evil than he was in canon (he's legitimately concerned for other people's welfare and wants to be a good king, but he's also a shameless Manipulative Bastard who cares little at all for Anna except for his ticket to power). Plus, Word of God promises it won't last.

Frozen Wight by thebandragoness (Link)
  • Recommended by: ArtfulDodger
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A sequel to the movie that focuses on Elsa dealing with the repercussions and fallout from the "eternal winter" she caused, including some unruly citizens and a monster set on killing her loved ones.
  • Comments: This story has sharp dialogue, descriptive narration, and excellent characterization. It keeps in tone with the movie - sometimes humorous, sometimes serious - and feels like a real continuation of Frozen. I am excited to see where this story will go.

Frozen: Changing Phases
  • Recommended by Jo Ken Po
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Four years after the Great Freeze, life in Arendelle remains harsh and hard. The summers are cold, the winters colder, the harvests suffer. Arendelle survives, but there is whisper of rebellion in the air. Anna, Elsa and Kristoff struggle to keep the tiny kingdom afloat in an atmosphere of uncertainty. The sisters face fresh conflict. In this frigid climate, new love will bloom.
  • Comments: A wonderful story to read with nice writing for the characters all around. Author has actually fully planned out the story, which is always a plus. Get ready to tuck in for the long haul, it's slated to be finished by the start of 2015.

Queen Elsa's War by cgtrial
  • Recommended by: Simpson 17866
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Arendelle and the Southern Isles have been at war since the events of Frozen. Princess Anna had been sailing to the Northern Isles on a diplomatic mission to maintain Arendelle's alliance, but her ship was attacked and she has been captured by the South. Queen Elsa personally oversees the rescue mission, and Anna befriends a new ally during her own attempt to escape.
  • Comments: This author reminds us of otherwise-ditzy Anna's ability to think on her feet in a crisis - without making her into some kind of mastermind super-genius - and the sisters' reunion will leave you in tears.

MRA Trilogy by Carliro on Archive of Our Own and Eogrus on FF.net.
  • Recommended by: Superchristiana
  • Contains characters from other works, like Percy Jackson, Finn The Human and Tiana, but it's not a full blown crossover.
  • Status: Complete, albeit with a Sequel Hook. A sequel focusing mostly on Mass Effect has been made.
  • Synopsis: As the actual synopsis puts it, "A commission to some friends on Tumblr, starring OC Rebecca Christiana Jasmina Xaila Rodrigues Diogo Velazquez against Elsa and her evil whore army of femnazis."
  • Comments: As you've probably guessed from the above synopsis, it's an intentionally awful fanfic. Basically it's like The Prayer Warriors, only with MRA's and feminists. Sans the occasional strategical misspelling (i.e. "Olaf" as "Oglaf"), the writing is fairly decent, which clearly emphasizes the disgusting content, both morally and the Squick, Nausea Fuel and Body Horror. The "protagonists" are hilariously hypocritical and over the top evil, and the established characters are basically inverted versions of their canon counterparts (i.e. Anna is a goth). If you're not put out by all the gross stuff and immorality, it's a very hilarious Crack Fic.

Sweet Joy Befall Thee by Searlait (now ShardsOfArendelle)
  • Recommended by: H Meyer
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "There were many things in her life Elsa honestly believed she would never have to take into consideration, because they would be forever a moot point as far as she was concerned. Pregnancy was one of those things."
  • Comments: Crafted by the same author who penned "Frozen: A Dark Retelling", this story explores Elsa's journey through her pregnancy on to birth, and her reactions and thoughts as her condition progresses. This not only has impeccable structure and flow, it will also draw you into a very accurate and poignant journey of pregnancy as Elsa experiences it. It is a long one shot at 9000+ words, but do trust me when I say it does not feel long at all. In fact, at the end, you will be wanting more. And don't be surprised if you find there's dust in your eyes at the end, because the end just envelopes you in a tight, warm embrace of Heartwarming Moments.

Frozen: Queen of Snow (and Ice)
  • Recommended by: junkwarrior20999
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Elsa seems alright, but deep down she struggles to live with herself and fights to overcome the fears she was indoctrinated with over 13 years of her life. When the consequences of her Eternal Winter catch up to her, she faces a potential relapse into the reclusive Princess she fought so hard to keep down.
  • Comments: By the author of An Only Child. This is a sequel fic that seems to be providing a more realistic take on the consequences of Elsa's winter while (so far) keeping it in the realm of something Disney themselves would do. The writing improves drastically from Chapter 7 onwards.

Elsa and the Wendigo
  • Recommended by: archtech88
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: After showing her powers to the world, Elsa has begun to draw the attention of the various beasts of ice and snow. As such, Elsa must now deal with the horrific attention the Wendigo, a North American winter spirit, has decided to visit upon her and Arendelle.
  • Comments: Takes place after the movie, tries to balance between lighthearted and horror while dealing with Elsa and Anna's interactions with each other and the Wendigo to mixed effects. Written by the same author as wrote Sorry About the Mess, acts as a prequel to it of sorts

Kingdom of Isolation
  • Recommended by Waking Prince Matty

Echoes of Falling Snow by R2-M0

  • Synopsis: Arendelle's young princesses were more than sisters, they were best friends. Then a terrible accident tore them apart, sending Elsa into hiding and leaving Anna with no idea why. Now, as the king and queen try to help their daughters, another face enters the picture. Will Anna's new friend be the bridge that brings them together or the wedge that drives them apart forever?
  • Comments: Is canon-compliant. Now has a sequel, Memories of Falling Snow.

A Bluer Shade of White
  • Recommended by: Dirka
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: Elsa's abilities are transforming Arendelle into an economic super power. Tireless ice golems and entire fleets made from pykrete have the other nations of the world clamouring for her attention. The wily successor to the Duke of Wesleton pushes her to adopt ever more radical uses of her ice powers, but Elsa wishes to remain cautious. Things come to a head when Elsa increases Olaf's intelligence, and the cute little snowman starts having brilliant ideas of his own.
  • Comments: Excellent rational fic that explores the true extent and ramifications of Elsa's powers as displayed in the film. The close point-of-view narration stays focused on Elsa's thoughts and feelings, providing a welcome grounding for the more cerebral and/or awesomecool aspects of the story.

  • Synopsis: Starting five years before the movie. When sixteen-year-old Elsa is told about the secret passages throughout the castle, she uses them as an escape from her room.
  • Comments: Canon-compliant. This writer captures a pretty good idea of how Elsa tries to continue to connect with Anna in spite of her forced isolation, to the point that by eight years after the opening sequence in the movie, Elsa outright resents being separated from Anna. It also establishes that Anna's dreams of romance existed well before the main plot started. There are some dark moments, such as Elsa blaming herself for her parents' deaths to the point that she attempts suicide, but otherwise, both sisters are portrayed in-character with what is shown in the movie. When the new story catches up to the events of the movie proper, the author does a great job exploring the events from Elsa's perspective, as well as fill in several gaps in the narrative. Now has a trope page.
    • Now has a completed canon-compliant sequel, The Coming Storm, set immediately after the movie as the sisters discover a new plot against the monarchy from the inside.

  • Synopsis: One year after the events of the movie, Hans decides to seek revenge against Arendelle. He kidnaps Anna and plans to hold her for ransom in exchange for Elsa handing Arendelle over to him. But fate has other plans. While sailing back to the Southern Isles, they are hit by a violent storm, and Anna and Hans are left stranded on a desert island. The former enemies must face the dangerous environments, and work together to survive. And while that's happening, Hans's family decides to make their own power move on Arendelle.
  • Comments: Hans is portrayed sympathetically through flashbacks while he and Anna are stranded. There is excellent characterization. It is also a bit darker than the movie, with such elements as murder and attempted rape.

Now stuck in each other bodies they must journey to find the place that can reverse the curse before time runs out. Except they may not be the only one searching for this place. Takes place after Frozen.
  • Comments: An interesting "Freaky Friday" Flip premise for the two sisters where both Anna and Elsa ended up being in each others bodies. It led to a lot of amusing and Heartwarming Moments as both try to adjust their life being in a different role with Anna being the Queen with ice powers and Elsa being a princess with no powers and how they would undo such spells. The OCs are also interesting and characterization for the returning ones are great in this fic.

  • Synopsis: A two-part fic. Part one, How Do You Take Your Tea, deals with the fallout of Elsa's eternal winter. Part two, I Prefer Coffee, covers the events of the following year between Frozen and Frozen Fever.
  • Comments: Part 1 is a very nicely constructed fic, showing in detail just what happened in between Anna punching Hans off the boat and the final scene on the skating rink. Everyone's portrayed very much in character and there's a nice layer of depth to the characters that's not seen in the original film. Part 2 continues with this, while expanding the universe a bit to show us Hans's fate.

  • Synopsis: Three years after Frozen, life seems perfect for Anna, Elsa and Kristoff, until an evil group learns how to harness the same magic Elsa controls and starts killing off the royalty of the world for their sick scheme. Trilogy currently spans over a period of eight years, and follows the lives of the royals as they try to survive. Fic is better than it sounds - I can't do it justice!
  • Pairing(s): Annax Kristoff, Elsax OC, Hansx OC
  • Comments: The fic is currently being updated to correct mistakes at the moment, but even with them it is well worth a read! I won't lie, it's not really for the fainthearted because there are mentions of rape (but nothing explicit) and quite cruel scenes of torture at times, and as you go through the series, it gets progressively darker and darker, but it's a really good fic all the same, and there are some really sweet scenes too! The author does a good job of giving the OCs character, too - they have backstories, flaws, personalities and motives for their actions, they aren't just 2d and are realistic characters (except for the fact that some have magic, which isn't all that realistic!) Definitely read it!

"Please, don't let him do this!" - Leading her kingdom out of the harsh winter she created, Elsa finds warmth in her younger sister, Anna.
  • Comments: It's essentially the Darker and Edgier sequel we're never going to get.
  • Warning: It starts off rather easily, but gets megadark later on, with torture, implied rape and lots of cursing. That being said, it's well worth the ride.

  • Synopsis: Raised in a warmongering royal family, Elsa was taught not to fear her powers, but to use them. Word was, the war lasted less than a day. "There's just one thing, and if you agree, I can promise Arendelle leniency." Elsa nodded at Anna. "I want her." (AU, in which Elsa is a weapon of war and Anna her unwilling guest.) Elsanna, but no incest.
  • Comments: Unique premise with Elsa being from the Southern Isles, and the shipping is a gradual development that makes sense even given the circumstances - Beauty and the Beast comes to mind. Lots of hurt/comfort between a broken Elsa and a bright Anna, but the romance is still driven by a powerful plot. Interesting expansion on Elsa's powers, and a good mixture of romance, angst, occasional humor, and courtly intrigue with the Southern Isles brothers. Excellent writing with the characterization spot on, and balances suspense well with everything that's going on. A read that's definitely worth the time.

  • Comments: A beautiful love story that does a good job at deconstructing complaints directed at the movie. Characters are easy to sympathize with, great chemistry between characters, engaging story, brilliant prose, a romance you can root for, high stakes, and solid characterization. • Comments: A wonderful story. Hans is in character, his parents are incredibly sympathetic-still loving him, even after all he's done-and an incredibly likable prince, who happens to be the Royal Fashion Designer for the Southern Isles. The author does a beautiful job of building up cliffhangers too. 5 Stars, 10/10, 100%, etc. Also, whoever made the trope page, you are AWESOME. And have a Made of Win.

  • Comments: Brilliant. All the characters are in-character, Hans's progression from a pissed-off jerk to a cheerful servant who sometimes acts like a 5-year old is interesting to read, and of course it's fun to see how Hans and Elsa's relationship develops. Throw in a evil sorceress and the scheming Duke of Weaseltown, and you've got an excellent story.

  • Comments: A decent story, it seems to follow the characters of Frozen fairly well. The relationship between Kristoff and Elsa isn't eluded to right at the beginning and it takes a while for them to actually act on it since it isn't the main focus of the story but it does get there eventually.

  • Comments: Now before any of you groan and say, "Not another fire!Hans story," this actually adds a twist, having Hans turn into a dragon during a final battle with Elsa on the frozen fjord of Arendelle and in Chapter 5, turn into a humanoid dragon while having a fever and desperately telling Elsa not to look at him.

  • Comments: One of the more well-known Frozen fanfics out there. The OC made as Elsa's love interest is likable, and his and Elsa's sarcastic banter is hard not to enjoy. Their budding romance is also well-paced and believable, and while the focus is mainly on them, the other important characters get a good amount of attention (except Olaf, but he hardly gets mentioned in fanfics EVER). Definitely in my top 3 of Frozen fanfiction. Contains graphic violence and the occasional sex scene.

  • Synopsis: 18 months before the King and Queen's fateful journey, Arendelle military sergeant Erik Slovak saves Princess Elsa's life during an attempted rebellion, and is promoted to become her personal guard after she saves him from grave injuries he earned when betrayed by his best friend. Rebellion is threatened over the closed gates. Relationships and love are forged. Battles are fought. Revenge comes. A new curse is discovered. Comfort is sought. Death strikes. Who will survive? Pairings revealed as the story goes on.
    • Comments: This story is Darker and Edgier than the original movie since it involves a lot of death. The events of the movie are still the same, but slightly altered to incorporate OC Erik's presence: for instance, Erik takes off directly in pursuit of Elsa after she flees the coronation. The fates of the two men sent by the Duke of Weselton changes: in the movie, they were sent back with their boss in disgrace. In this fanfic, when the search team stops to treat Elsa's injuries on the way back to Arendelle, Erik takes the two Weselton thugs into the woods on the pretense of searching for firewood, then stabs one of them in the back and slits the other thug's throat, then tosses the bodies off a cliff. Elsa's part in the jailbreak is unchanged, except here, it's established that even with Hans as acting ruler, the Arendelle forces maintain loyalty to Elsa and are willing to attack Hans's men to keep them from executing Elsa while she escapes. The new characters are well-written and provide for an interesting read.

  • Pairing(s): Elsa/Hans
  • Comments: One of the best Arranged Marriage fanfics out there, filled with interesting political intrigues, complex characterisation and a touch of humorous wit. Inspired by Jane Austen's works such as Pride and Prejudice, it is a novel of manners of sorts, and the story presents a very vivid depiction of what a royal life might look like, along with its elaborate customs and values, which far differs from our own.

  • Comments: This fic has a great mystery going for it regarding its version of Elsa (i.e. where is she?) while also translating Anna to the modern day extremely well. The author also seems to be posting "theme songs" for the characters, if Chapter 2 is any indication.

  • Synopsis: "Her parents died because of a secret, and she fell into the underworld after them. Now, Anna's chasing the information that killed them. (Cyberpunk AU)"
  • Comments: As the synopsis suggests, this is a Cyberpunk Sci-Fi AU of Frozen, which is told in a limited third-person POV (Anna's). While the first couple chapters are a little slow to warm up, it gets going once you're a few chapters in. This is a very gritty story with lots of violence, some references to torture, and plenty of in-depth dialogue and world-building. In addition, everything is meticulously well-researched. A number of other Disney characters also make an appearance, including Mulan and Esmeralda (you'll have to figure them out for yourself!) This story, especially once you find out what happened to Elsa, will rip out your heart and stomp on it before tossing it into a fire.

The story begins with a soldier falling in love with Elsa, but rapidly escalates when he discovers she is already in a sexual relationship with Anna. Additional chapters depict the sisters working their way across Regency Era Europe while they struggle with their taboo relationship.
  • Comments: A lot of people are turned off of the idea of a ship-fic heavily reliant on original characters. But the author goes out of his way to subvert common fanfic tropes left and right, and making a gripping mix of romance and drama set against a highly detailed historical backdrop. Very worth it.

  • Comments: This fic is an absolute joy to read. While it brings in a wide range of characters from across the Disney canon, the focus is on the budding relationship between Elsa and Anna. The story is excellent, and the characters are almost perfectly in-character for their new roles in a university campus setting. Read it. Now.

But where does the Beast end and Kristoff begin?
  • Comments: A Beauty and the Beast AU of Frozen. The author blends the two seamlessly, and the blossoming romance between Anna and Kristoff is wonderful. The fairies present in the story have more in common with The Fair Folk rather than Tinkerbell. Plenty of angst to behold, you will seriously want to give poor Elsa a hug towards the end. Another great work by this author; I give it my highest praise. Beware of graphic violence and a couple sex scenes.

    • Light in the Darkness: High school AU. I've lived in the darkness most of my life, not knowing happiness... never seeing the light. But at least it was more bearable than seeing it out of my reach in the shape of a redheaded goddess whose presence is both torture and blessing for me. Elsa's POV of my other fanfic, "The One". Eventual Elsanna.
    • The One: High school AU. Hans is perfect, he is the one, my true love. And Elsa is just a loser; she's the ice queen with a frozen heart, she doesn't have feelings and she hates me... at least that's what I tell myself in order to survive my first time going to school. But true love sometimes is where you less expect it to be. Anna's POV of LITD
  • Comments: We see inside the heads of Anna and Elsa as they face abuse, bullying and manipulation in different ways. Each story allows us to see into their respective heads to understand the full scope of how they think and why they did their actions. We can fully gauge how Elsa's poor social skills make her seem like an ice queen when she's really a sweet girl, and we understand all of Anna's (flawed) thinking when she does horrible things under Hans influence. Its nice to see an alternate take on the characters. We see a version of Anna whose even more foolish and immature than in cannon but with almost none of her selflessness before she grows into it. And we see how Elsa's icy demeanor is shapped, not by her powers, but by abuse. It also references a number of other disney and Pixar movies. Such as including Jack Frost as Elsa's deceased brother. As well as Hercules, Meg, Forbes, Ariel, Snow White, Aurora and Cinderella as high school students (albeit with VERY different personalities).

  • Synopsis: Modern AU. The story deals about Elsa, a college student, dealing with her romantic incestuous feelings for her younger sister and the great damage this causes to her self-esteem as well as all of her relationships.
  • Comments: Very dramatic story that starts off rather slowly and appears to go nowhere for a while, but still always has something new happening in every chapter that will keep your interest. Be warned, read it only if you're ready for some angst, for the story is true to its title.
    • One thing to note is that at first Elsa is intentionally a bit OOC and 4chan-y, as one interpretation of how Elsa would be if she was a shut-in in a modern AU. The story is very good, though, and as it goes on you see more of the similarities between the Elsa of this fic and the movie. This is probably my favorite Frozen fic, with amazing, realistic character development and some great humor.

She wasn't expecting to meet the asylum's resident 'Ice Queen,' who refuses to speak or acknowledge anyone... except Anna."
  • Comments: A modern AU fic containing incredible levels of cuteness, fluff and general heartwarming as well as highly realistic tragedy and angst. The fic is also notable for its many, cleverly done cameos of various Disney and Pixar characters. Simply put: beautiful.

  • Synopsis: AU. Elsa and Anna are the heiresses of different kingdoms and are married as a result of a betrothal arranged years prior. No incest, but definitely Elsanna. Very likely OOC.
  • Comments: I was skeptical about reading this at first, but found that I love it. The Elsa and Anna of this AU know one another from childhood, but have since lost contact after an incident. While arranged marriages are typically unhappy, the author shows that love can blossom from it. It's well written and I consider it one of my favorites.

  • Pairings: Elsanna
  • Synopsis: Power. Grace. Duty. Success. As heir to a powerful multinational conglomerate, Elsa was groomed to embody all of these qualities and more. But a lifetime spent in the pursuit of perfection could not prepare her for the love she would have to conceal from the one person whom she has sought to protect from all those who would threaten her happiness... Anna - her sister.
  • Comments: The author of this story has a real talent for writing realistic, emotional dialogue that does not feel forced or contrived to fit the plot of the story. The emotional and mental anguish that Anna and Elsa go through in this story is almost palpable and, while painful to read, makes the more affectionate, sweeter moments between the two all the more poignant and meaningful. Everything fits this story incredibly well from the (mostly) well-written dialogue to the appearances by other Disney characters. If you take the time to read this fan fic, chances are that you will not be disappointed by what you find - it is one of the best fan fics that I have read in quite some time.

  • Pairings: Elsa/Anna, a bit of Hans x Anna and Kristanna early on
  • Synopsis: They were neighbors, briefly, before friends. And Anna always did find it strange how it snowed whenever she was with Elsa. The moments they spent, ruined by terrible weather, freak snowstorms, outrageous forecasts. She never once suspected it to be anything other than bad timing. Oh how wrong she really was.
  • Comments: It's a modern AU where Elsa still has her powers. The authress has a very good, intense writing style in this tropers opinion. There's a few things that are noteworthy, but I don't wanna spoil you. What differs this from most other fics is the fact that it's written in first person and that it takes place in New York City - and despite being modern AU, Elsa still having her powers. I really enjoyed the read.

  • Comments: A good read. Elsa befriends Anna at the pool anonymously via covering her identifying features while simultaneously observing and admiring her from afar at school. The writer then explores what happens when Anna slowly starts to suspect that the Elsa she knows at the pool also happens to attend her school.

There was one exception, one person she wanted but couldn't get. Elsanna
  • Comments: A really good story! It's unique from other Highschool AUs in that Elsa and Anna are "enemies" which adds a forbidden flavour to their relationship that enhances it that much more. There's a lot of angst though... the author is cruel like that..

  • Comments: Even though I'm not an Elsanna shipper, I adore this. Maybe it's because they're not related, maybe it's because Anna's quirkiness is utterly adorable. The author does great in establishing the setting, characters (including some other characters from Disney films making cameos), and relationship between Anna and Elsa to the point that I have found myself with a silly grin on my face on more than one occasion. The fact that it's based off of the author's experiences in real life only heightens the believability, and is probably the one fic that has caused me to be close to shipping Unrelated!Elsanna.

  • Synopsis: No matter how deeply a secret is buried, there are always those who know...
  • Comments: First of all, the title is a reference to Argos, a 100-eyed giant in Greek mythology who was usually tasked with watching over things, as his eyes were never closed all at once. Now that we got that out of the way, this is a very uniquely-premised series of semi-related one-shots concerning Elsa and Anna's hidden relationship through the eyes of those who know about it or at least suspect it. It's gorgeously written, and swings between being comical, heartwarming or deeply dramatic. As a whole though, it is a definitely impressive fanfic.

But after the orphaned thief receives the monarch's judgment, she soon realizes that her mistake has changed her life forever. And as her fate becomes entwined with Elsa's, Anna finds herself standing in the way of an enigmatic conspiracy that will not rest until the Queen has fallen. Elsanna, but no incest.
  • Comments: This amazing story has a perfect blend of action, romance, mystery, and plot. The premise alone (an impoverished Anna falls in love with Queen Elsa) is interesting alone, but even without the romance this story's plot is more than worthy of a read. Despite its fantastical setting, this story is injected with a significant dose of realism that keeps it grounded and believable. The characterization of Elsa and Anna is spot on, and both are relatable despite the strange scenarios they are thrown into. Add to that a mystery that grows more and more suspenseful with every chapter, and you've got a must-read for any Elsanna shipper.

She is unknowingly stolen away from her life in Arendelle and is given a new name (Kristen) and a new identity. She rebuilds her life as a "neurosis nurse" and lands herself a job attending to the mysterious mayor's daughter, Elsa.
  • Comments: One of the better modern AU stories. Some of the plot developments are bit too coincidental, like in a soap opera, but the story and character development are good and it doesn't suffer from an extremely slow pace like a lot of other fics. The pace is fast and it's obvious that the author has a clear vision for the plot, the character development, and the ending.

But it's been said fear will be his enemy, and when the day of his coronation comes, fear may just consume him. [Genderbent Elsa-Elliott, Anna-Anders, Kristoff-Krista, Hans-Helena.]
  • Comments: An expansively and fully written-out Gender Flip of the original story, in which sisters Elsa and Anna become brothers Elliott and Anders. While following the original storyline faithfully, the author adds and changes many details of character personality, expression, speech, and action to make the gender flip more believable and organic. There are also some backstories, episodes, and character points-of-view added that were not present in the original story but tie into it quite nicely (keeping in mind that this was written well before Frozen II came out). Rated T for minor coarse language.

  • Paring: Naruto/Elsa
  • Synopsis: Naruto is dying from an overheating chakra system, and to save his life he is sent to a far far away land where a lonely queen discovers him and perhaps something more.
  • Comments: Well this should come as no surprise. However, this story is written very beautifully with all the characters written as they should be and it feels like this could very well be the actually sequel to Frozen. The scenario, while cliche as all hell, works in this case because there is minor conflict in the beginning due to the language barrier between Naruto and Elsa. But slowly but surely, you see the characters develop in a realistic in-universe manner.

  • Comments: Brilliantly written and a very interesting spin on a Frozen crossover, that should have never been able to work, but somehow Genghis Quan pulled it off. The sisters are written near perfectly in character, and the action sequences have excellent detail, so much so that it'll keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what may happen next. Also this is a prequel to Pacific Rim, so it's not Pacific Rim with the Frozen sisters inserted, but it's own standalone tale. Also, has a trope page now

  • "Comments" There are so many ways that this crossover could fail. I mean, I've heard people draw parallels between Elphaba and Elsa as characters before but I wasn't so sure how it would work as an actual story. However, the author makes it so work by way of research and extensive detail to each works lore, as well as a very good understanding of the character in general. Definitely worth a read.

  • Synopsis: Instead of being sequestered in her room, Elsa is sent by her parents to her Uncle and Aunt, the King and Queen of Corona. King Thomas and Queen Primrose are thunderstruck at the idea of caring for the girl, since their own daughter, Rapunzel, was kidnapped as a baby and is still missing.
Elsa and Anna write letters to each other while Elsa grows up in Corona and Anna grows up in a castle full of people and life. Away from the anxiety exacerbated by her parents, Elsa has more control of her secret ice powers.
Elsa's fate to become the Snow Queen, however, is not so easily escaped.
  • Comments: (by mysterius) A wonderful exploration of a what-if world. The story follows Elsa as she grows up from child, to teen, to young adult, and meets people along the way. Elsa's new circumstances produce changes, yet she remains true to character. So far, we've caught glimpses of Anna's life back in Arendelle through her letters, and Elsa's already had a couple run-ins with familiar characters from Tangled. Rapunzel has also been seen, though has not made waves in the plot. Yet the prospect of her entry into the story looms over the fic, and the question of how Elsa will figure into the coming events remains tantalizing...

  • Comments: While only at four chapters at time of recommendation, I'm finding myself wanting more. It feels very much as if the characters from Frozen have been brought into Storybrooke, and their "curse" is very much what you would expect. It's amazing this fic hasn't received as much attention as it deserves. Go read it. Now.
    • Seconded. Everyone is very in-character (as in-character as one in OUAT can be), and it leaves you wondering how the original OUAT plot will affect the sisters- well worth your love and devotion. Click the dang link and read it. Now would be preferrable.

  • Comments: Possibly one of the best; if not THE best Frozen/ROTG Crossover fics ever written. You will literally be overcome with emotion as you go through the chapters as Jack retells of a life that he had long blocked out from memory. To describe it would include major spoilers. I highly recommend this from the bottom of my heart considering that there are rarely any fics out there that masterfully craft the romance between these two. Not only that, but the author has actually gone out of her way to extensively research the historical elements behind the timeline of the setting to make it as accurate and realistic as possible. Even better, there are already 3 other spin-offs of Frostbitten in Arialene's page, as well as a Modern AU fic.

Discord undermines the Holy Roman Empire, and in secret clubs across Germany, people discuss Corona, Austria, and unification. Maestro, choose your instrument, and let the music play.
  • Comments: A very well written piece, with easy to follow view-point shifts, and mixing up the writing style every now and then makes this a refreshing read (I've even seen in-universe school reports with a teacher's comment). Also, after just over a month, with 84 chapters as of last check, this is a long piece. Fortunately, it is very obviously well-planned and -though out, with the author even considering the ramifications of having a very powerful Ice Person as one of your army's most powerful weapons. I would highly recommend this fic, and I haven't even gotten halfway through it.
    • By Godeskian: I recommend this fic, but with a caveat. The characters in it, while bearing names like Anna and Elsa and Rapunzel, bear almost no relationship to the Disney characters of the same name. it’s an inevitable result of putting them into quasi-real work scenarios, but it leads to moments of incredulity, such as Rapunzel’s army committing executions by dismemberment, Anna being a blood soaked mass-murderer who uses a man’s severed head as a sock puppet, and Elsa agonising for about fifteen minutes before using her ice-powers to brutally murder some 55,000 men in an afternoon.
      • It is a great fic, but what it is NOT is a good Frozen/Tangled fic.

With new friends, and an entire line of ancestor spirits ready to help, they have no choice but to protect their homes, themselves and their family's legacy
  • Comments: I'm a sucker for massive crossovers, and the Author has a fine hand for drama. He might get a bit wordy here and there, but the fic is good to read, deeply complex in the way the various Disney worlds seem to interact (for instance, Hans appears to be the son of Ariel from the little Mermaid) and with humor and shout outs galore, it's well worth a read.

  • Comments: A rewritten version of the original Of Ice and Dragons, this fixes the most prominent errors, and improves the overall quality of the story's writing, though the original is also worth looking at. The crossover proper takes some time to begin, but this allows for excelent character building for the nameless Dovahkiin.

  • Synopsis: Inspired by a very brief scene in Frozen, the main characters of Tangled and Frozen meet and hijinks ensue. Takes place after the events of Tangled, during the events of Frozen, and eventually after the events of Frozen as well.
  • Comments: A very well put together story, with focus on character reactions and similarities between the two movies. It starts with a "write around" approach, focusing on the viewpoint of the Tangled characters and how they were part of or witness to the events of frozen. However, after the big freeze, the fic shifts a little, focusing on both sets of characters as they learn each others secrets, grow, laugh, and develop relations between all of them. Even with the pets. Tonally, it's probably the closest in tone to the movies as any fic.

  • Synopsis: Just as Princesses Merida, Rapunzel, Anna, and Elsa settle down from their adventures, fate drives them together - and apart - to fight a war against a returning evil that threatens their Kingdoms, their loved ones, and their own lives.
  • Comments: Oh my goodness, the way this fic is put together is brilliant. Set post movie for all 3 franchises, the conflict, character moments, dialog and even jokes all draw the 3 movies together in a unique and creative way. The title refers to how each of the 3 princesses and 1 queen relate to each other, and the chapter structure works this way as well. Focus rotates between Merida, Elsa, Anna and Rapunzel from their points of view in the story. The best part about this is that it keeps you in suspense over what's happening with the other "seasons", but also gives you some nifty foreshadowing, side shadowing and even horror as you see the machinations of the Big Bad play out. This highly ambitious fic is a delight for any person to read, so long as they accept it's going to be a bit more political and dramatic than your average crossover fic.
    • Seconded with gusto. It starts out a little sluggish, and the dialogue can be a bit wonky at times, but as a whole it is a definite good fic. The characterization (including how the above characters would act if placed in tense situations), the structure, the merging of the different universes, and the allusions to each of the films (including the fact that a lot of secondary characters from the films get a good amount of screentime). It also features some twists that will knock your socks off. Highly recommended.
      • Again, this fic is the best I've ever read. Ever. The characters are spot on and the author does a wonderful job of crafting a solid story while staying true to the movies. Sadly, it has not been updated since early March, and I suspect it is dead... but you should still read it, trust me it will blow you away!

Adventure and danger ensues...
  • Comments: it's well-written enough (few grammar/spelling mistakes), and the premise is interesting. • Synopsis: Having somehow escaped Rapture, Elsa and her papa Delta find themselves on the surface! But it is not how they expected the surface to be. In the kingdom of Arendelle, Princess Anna awaits the arrival of her cousin Rapunzel. But with the arrival of two mute strangers, things might never be the same for the small island nation. And why does the blue one seem familiar to her?
  • Comments: So far, much Lighter and Softer than its predecessor. Looks like Grandpabbie will have his work cut out for him, though.

  • Crossover with: Rise of the Guardians
  • Synopsis: He was invisible; she was isolated. But maybe, just maybe, neither of them had to be alone. Jack/Elsa.
  • Comments: Short, very sweet shipping one-shot detailing the tentative beginning of Jack and Elsa's relationship. No spoilers, just fluff and a little bit of angst.

A Song of Ice by GenghisQuan
  • Recommended by Reads-By-Lamplight
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: A Song of Ice and Fire
  • Synopsis: An AU wherein the climax took a turn for the tragic - Anna froze before she could reach anyone before Elsa's eyes, causing Elsa to lose control completely for a few seconds. What consequences does this spell for the survivors of Arendelle and its neighboring kingdoms? Seven vignettes for seven characters.
  • Comments: This is essentially seven little snippets that begin with the destruction of Arendelle and end with the construction of the Wall and the founding of the Night Watch. It melds the two worlds together very well.

The Ice Duchess of the Federated Commonwealth
  • Recommended by Stormseed
  • Crossover with: Battletech, some Tangled.
  • Status: Dormant; last updated January 2020
  • Synopsis: The Year is 3053. Anna has spent several years after the deaths of her parents on the world of Corona with her cousin Rapunzel, but is finally coming back to her homeworld of Arendelle for her sister's investment as Duchess. Immediately after her return, however, she runs headfirst into Victor Steiner-Davion, Heir to roughly half the Inner Sphere(and son of her mother's closest friend) here to perform the investment as one of his first official duties. Essentially an insertion of the story into Battletech's setting of Interplanetary Intrigue and Giant Robot battles.
  • Comments: Works surprisingly well. Also, starting into the actual Frozen storyline content.

Cryomancyby TheZorker

  • Crossover with: The Avengers
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: With a single sword strike, Anna's life was ended in front of Elsa, sending the whole realm into a frozen tomb for over one hundred and fifty years. Found by SHIELD, and awakened in the evacuation, just how desperate are they for any help they can find? "They have made us very desperate." First story in the Cryomancy series.
  • Comments: While it sounds like a typical "Additional character enters the Avengers" story, and it does sort of discard the message of Frozen by changing the ending, this is a great story. It follows the plot of Avengers, but is focused more on the thoughts and feelings of Elsa as she interacts with the other characters. The writing is good and concise, and everyone is in character. In addition, there are three additional stories in the series, all of which are worth checking out.

Let The Storm Rage Onby Julia451
  • Recommended by omegadannyboy
  • Crossover with: The Avengers
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "That's my secret - I'm always angry." When did Dr. Banner give up the "conceal, don't feel" strategy? How did he learn to control his power by letting himself feel? It all started when he woke up from an incident in a strange land and had a long conversation with a queen with a very similar past. Set before The Avengers film, after Frozen.
  • Comments: You really don't notice the parallels between Bruce and Elsa until you read this. Or at least I didn't. There's a sequel oneshot, Sense Versus Sensibility, and a full length sequel story, Return of the Snow Queen, that hasn't been finished yet.

Valley of Dying Stars by DeadlyflamesPairing(s): Anna/Pitch Black, some Jelsa.
  • Synopsis: A very rare and engaging Anna x Pitch Black shipping fic (with a little The Phantom of the Opera thrown in). Little Anna begins getting nightly visits from the frightening Busemann. Nobody believes her, of course, so she has no one to save her but herself. As he keeps trying to scare her, she thinks he might not be so frightening after all. When she grows up, Pitch finds that her warmth and brightness burns him.
  • Comments: Anna, Pitch, and Elsa are very in character, and we see a little more of the girls' father too. Anna is particularly cute and funny as a child and her interactions with the Boogeyman (whether marveling over his beautiful eyes while he's trying to terrify her, or Anna trying to scare him right back) are well done.

Meanwhile, Elsa is fairly ruling her kingdom with no pressure, until an attempt of assassination where she meets a powerful stranger. Will Elsa help him or will his past scars be too much for her?
  • Comments: Since Godzilla does not actually have a name (Godzilla is just what modern day humans call him; he would have no way of knowing about it), he gets named Mathias. In Arendelle, he slowly learns to accept humanity and gets a romance with Elsa.
