     General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Def Part of the Fam by Violet Rose of Darkness

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Webby and Dewey have a talk before everyone goes their separate ways. Debbigail friendship, but can be seen as romance if you want.
  • Comments: Comes right after that heartbreaking episode (The Last Crash of the Sunchaser).

Problem Children by mandaree1

  • Recommended by fruitstripegum
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: The triplets handle bullies differently.

Huey Duck's Non-Comprehensive, Ever Growing List of Reasons Why Being A Triplet Is Awesome by Nebulous_Bounds_of_Bad_Taste

  • Recommended by Known Unknown
  • Status: Complete (but possibly continued in the future)
  • Summary: A collection of fun, embarrassing, silly and hearwarming snapshots of the triplets' life before and after meeting Scrooge, with the theme of Huey meticulously listing all the things he loves about his brothers.
  • Comments: Many of the recs on this page are brother moment fics between the triplets, and this fic decides to go the whole hog and string as many different types of them together as the author could think of, pulling on their own experience having siblings. As a result, it's a very heartwarming read with an especially sweet ending.

Coat Closet by whitebeltwriter

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Fall is on its way and that means the oh so fun task of making sure everyone is properly attired when heading out. Especially if someone doesn't seem to have any clothes save for what's on her back.

In Your Corner by whitebeltwriter

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Mrs Beakley finds Lena hurt on the manor's doorstep and comforting ensues.

Dreams and Reality by darknessarrives165

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Dewey dreams of his mom. Of adventures she has had in the past, of her childhood, and other parts of her life. Unsure of whether they are true events from her life, he feels as if they are necessary for getting him closer to finding his mom. And perhaps the answer to what happened to her all those years ago.
  • Comments: Definitely my favorite story from the fandom so far. From the high-stakes drama to the dangerous action (fans of Dewey and Webby be warned - they get smacked around quite a bit, emotionally and physically), everything in this story pays off with catharsis.

Keeping the Balance by Sand-wolf579

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Huey took on the role of the older, responsible triplet. Being the one in charge though was really hard sometimes, especially when one of his brothers was keeping secrets from them. Throw in a teenager who was a bit of a bully, and a girl who was a little intense for his liking, and Huey was in for a hard time.

Bound to Repeat it by Sand-wolf579

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Louie found a disturbing pattern in their family's history and begins to think that there's a connection between success and resent in the family.

Battling Brothers by QueenReagan

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: In the aftermath of their failed internship, Huey and Dewey have a falling out concerning their work ethics. With Webby sick, Beakley occupied, and Uncle Donald and Great-Uncle Scrooge kept in the dark, it is up to Louie to reconcile his battling brothers.
  • Comments: Takes place after "The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!".

Will You Come Home? by booklover4816

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: After a family argument, a certain level-headed duckling makes an impulsive decision that sends his family into panic.
  • Comments: This story is based around the idea that Dewey comes clean about his investigation regarding his mother. Huey angrily blows up at his great-uncle (offscreen) then runs away.

The First Night by roxygoth

  • Recommended by Bright Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: It's the boys first night in McDuck Manor. Of course they're not nervous at all, why would they be? No, this is the start of a new adventure...
  • Comments: Very in-character interactions between Donald and Scrooge at the beginning (and pretty funny talk between them too). Louie steals the show near the end. And there's a nice hint of Dewey x Webby in the middle.

Mirror, Mirror by Soulful-sin

  • Recommended by LegionnaireBlaze
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: 1987 Webby Vanderquack is in for a surprise when she walks through an antique mirror and finds herself in another McDuck Manor, this time confronted by another version of herself and the boys. Meanwhile, on the other side, the boys end up making matters worse. Now they need Magica's help to repair the mirror and Magica's help always comes with a price...
  • Comments: An enjoyable story that successfully crosses over the two shows. So far has been a very good read.
    • A really interesting scenario, one that I particullarly always wanted to read about, and it didn't disappoint me. As the story advances, it becomes darker, with some dark themes and injuries that would be lighter in the shows being taken very seriously. Still, it's enjoyable, engaging, and very faithful to the characters from both shows and probably the dream of many fans come true.
    • Has a sequel here.

How to Survive on Thin Ice by secretsoup

  • Recommended by fruitstripegum
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Webby is standing in a crowded department store with her Granny two weeks before Christmas looking at a table of black and grey striped sweaters while trying not to cry not because fate led her here, but because it's a popular style and Lena had good taste and sweaters make good gifts. It's a coincidence. “Would you like one,” Granny says softly, after a few moments, because she can see Webby is touching one, gently, two fingers on the folded corner of it like it's a stray dog that might bite. “Oh,” she says, nervous and a little shrill. She's been doing a really great job at putting on a brave face about the whole Lena thing; bravery and optimism is what Webby does best, and besides, it's not like she just found out her mother died scared and alone in outer space or anything. She hadn't even known Lena that long, or very well, what with all the lying and everything. So when you put it in perspective, really, it would be selfish to make a fuss about it. “That's okay.” Her voice cracks like thin ice. She treads carefully, has been for almost five months now, lest she break through and drown. One day she'll make it back to solid ground, maybe. “I don't even think it comes in my size.”

We Get the Job Done by ant5b

  • Recommended by Cyrania
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Fenton and Scrooge commiserate over the immigrant experience.
  • Notes: Bonding between Scrooge and Fenton is something that is lacking within the fandom right now. This deals with a solid point of connection the two would have between them and is well handled. Bonus points for the title reference and how well it fits what's going on.

A Small Coffee Break by Fandomtrashed 13

  • Recommended by Cyrania
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: He looked up and insantly, his day was ruined. The sun was behind the clouds, the milk has been spilt, the toe has been stubbed, the dread was settling into his stomach. Why?
Because Mark Beaks was standing in front of him, arms spread wide and grinning as if he hadn't used Fenton and stolen the Gizmoduck suit, almost killing people in the process.
  • Notes: Illustrates the chillingly villainous Mark Beaks along with how any future interactions between him and Fenton may end up going with a charming rescue.

Power Down by DigiKate813

  • Recommended by Cyrania
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Now that Fenton has officially become Gizmoduck, Duckburg’s newest protector, he is not holding back. Giving everything he has to being the greatest hero he can be. But how much can he push himself to do more before he starts to fall?
  • Notes: The obligatory well-meaning hero overworks himself to prove himself worthy of his title and then has help from others as he deals with the repercussions story done beautifully. Digi Kate 813 writes it in the style of an episode, making the whole story seem like something that could come up in canon in the future. Also has parental Scrooge and a team up of Gizmoduck and Scrooge McDuck.

He knew Donald was glaring at a smirking Gladstone over a laughing Della’s head as she leaned over to look at her own reflection in the water. None of them were aware of exactly what they had just drunk.

  • Comments: Season 3 AU and beyond. And while there's some shipping, the biggest focus overall is family and adventures. Also incorporates elements from the original Darkwing Duck, Paperinik New Adventures, and even House of Mouse.

Valor by The-Suburban-Guy

  • Synopsis: According to the author, "Drake and Fenton both live busy lives. Between family, friends, and having to stop supervillains on a regular basis, neither has a ton of down time. When a chance encounter leads to them getting to know each other, something clicks."
  • Pairing(s): Fenton/Drake
  • Comments: Set post 2017 series, it's mostly been focused on Drake and Fenton as opposed to Gizmoduck and Darkwing, but seems to be heading that way. Good slice of life pairing with some hurt/comfort elements at times.

Stand By Me by secretsoup

  • Recommended by Powe Respect
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Lena with make-up isn't all that different than Lena without make-up, which you think is surprising because people always talk about girls and make-up like it makes a big difference. She’s not less pretty, or more pretty, because she’s always pretty, and every time you look at her she seems prettier than the last time you looked at her, and OH, Lena’s a witch, isn't she? Maybe she's got you under a thrall, is this what it feels like to be under a thrall? This is so exciting, you've never been under a thrall before!
  • Pairing(s): Webby/Lena

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After suffering an animal bite in Europe, Webby wakes up having become a Vampire in the night.
  • Comments: A comedic story exploring the concept of vampirism in a world where it's far from the most fantastical occurrence. Webby/Lena is present throughout, but not the central focus outside of the last third of chapter one. Recommended for people seeking goofy/low-stakes monster stories, Webby/Lena fluff, and/or Mark Beaks embarrassing himself.
  • Pairing(s): Webby/Lena

  • Recommended by: Blind Bandit 8
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After Fenton and Drake almost hook up, they try for a relationship. But dating as a superhero isn't easy, and no one is ever holding all the cards.
  • Comments: A thrilling fic with romance, humour, action and familial love. The first part develops Drake Mallard and Fenton Crackshell Cabrera from acquintances to lovers, the second part involves them teaming up with other characters and taking in a lost child. Both parts involve a lot of action and Jim Starling being a terrifying villain.
  • Pairing(s): Fenton/Drake, mention of past Fenton/Gandra.

LOST by therealjordan23

  • Recommended by: Marcus S Lazarus
  • Status: Ongoing.
  • Synopsis: Dewey Duck had made a mistake—he was young, dumb, and heads over heels for his best friend, fueled by nothing but his anger and pain. Years later he was still dealing with the aftermath of what he did to her, his brothers, and his friends. He was incredibly lost, alone, and filled with guilt. Would he ever find his way back home again?
  • Comments: An emotionally gripping and exceptionally well-written piece that truly captures Dewey's grief and pain at the idea that Webby doesn't love him that way and the consequences of his absence on the rest of the Duck family, to say nothing of the steps leading to his return to Duckburg and his family.
  • Pairing(s): Dewey/Webby, Huey/Violet, Louie/Lena, Max Goof/Webby

  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Freedom. Lena had wanted it for so very long. But even though the connection with Magica is broken, she wonders if she is truly free. Thankfully, she's got a better family out of the deal.
  • Comments: An AU detailing what would have happened if Lena had been freed from Magica before The Shadow War!, along with giving her a different backstory. It is a great read, but be warned, Lena gets smacked around a lot.
  • Has a tropes page.

The Lost Niece by myrskytuuli

  • Recommended by Cyrania de Bergerac
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Della gets compared to her uncle a lot. She is smarter than the smarties and tougher than the toughies, brave and clever, with lust for adventure, for adrenaline, for making herself into something more.
  • Comments: An AU dealing with an intriguing possibility for Della's absence from her kids' life. Namely, what if Della striving to get out from her Uncle Scrooge's shadow had lead her to villainy. It's a truly chilling and heartrending one-shot that does offer valid development for this AU even if only explored in one-shot form.

Cooperation by SolarMorrigan

  • Recommended by Cyrania de Bergerac
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Darkwing Duck meets Gizmoduck and isn't particularly impressed with his track record. (Though, Gizmoduck isn't particularly impressed with his attitude, so at least they're even.)
  • Comments: This is a beautiful expression of the hoped-for team-up of Drake Mallard and Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera. Their dynamic references their 90's one, yet is also unique and true to both characters. If the show ended up going a similar route to this for whatever future they have for Darkwing, there would be much rejoicing.

Now with no one to turn to the triplets try to find out exactly what happened to their uncle while figuring out who's want to to kidnap him in the first place and figure out his mysterious connection to the richest duck in the world.
  • Comment: A well developed, in character, bittersweet story that focuses on the triplets trying to find their missing uncle. It also examines all the changes in relationships after the kids are forced to defend themselves in the real world before they meet Scrooge and go on adventures with him. Highly recommend it if you want a heartfelt bittersweet mystery.

"A Light in the Shadows" by Emily_RoseMarie

  • Recommended by: bn2000
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: An exploration of what could have been if Magica wasn't, you know, the worst.
  • Comment: A touching and at the same time dramatic story. Lena does not suffer from her aunt's abuse, on the contrary, she is loved by her. But now she has to choose between her and her new friends. And this choice is, for obvious reasons, much more difficult than in the original.

As far as the Mcduck clan know there are no more secret between them, or at least that's what the triplets and Scrooge thought. Now, shortly after Magica's defeat more troubles arrive, and in the middle of this is a parrot, a rooster, and an android.
  • Comments: A dark secret is exposed, new alliances are formed, and Donald Duck is right in the middle of it all. This story was published on October 12, 2018 and is canon divergent after the Season 1 finale. This is a bold, gripping crossover of diverse fandoms to make an interesting adventure story that tests where Donald's loyalties lie!
