These are recommendations made by Tropers for Being Human (UK) fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Author and Websites

Being Human Fan Site, a discussion both in and out of universe about the show. Hasn't updated for series two yet though, and as of this posting, it is now January 22, 2011. Still a good site though.

General

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

• Synopsis: Annie and George patch things up after a rough night.
• Pairings: Very slight Mitchell/Annie, not much more then you would see on the show.
• Tags: Hurt/comfort friendship, Swearing, some blood and mention of violence.
• Comments: A nice Original Flavour fic, really captures the characters voices.

Postcards From Hell by Jinxed-Wood.

• Synopsis: The first postcard came about a week after the accident...
• Tags: Rated M for Mature.
• Comments; This is one creepy fic. It leads you gently by the hand until you've suddenly gone into the darkness. Nice and moody, if you like that sort of thing. Takes place after episode four of series one.

Something Tells Me by Fleemneek

• Synopsis: What happens when Mitchell first meets Josie. How did he get there? And why? The events before, during and after S 2 E 5.
• Pairings: A little bit of Mitchell/ Josie towards the end.
• Comments: A brilliant look at Mitchell's character, helping to fill in the blank of his blood drinking days, and an interesting examination of the last years of his connection to Herrick as well as the beginning of his connection to Josie. Beautifully and vicserally written, emotional but never too maudlin, this is a dark but very rewarding read. Cannot recommend enough.

Henry, Harry, Hal by Elizabeth 2826

• Synopsis: A short drabble about Hal's human life.
• Comments: One brief, but surprisingly well-researched fic about what began shaping Hal into a monster before vampirism even entered the equation. True to the character and plainly yet skillfully written.

Stray by Packmentality

• Synopsis: More likely what Mitchell finds hilarious is the fact that, while the cat doesn't seem at all bothered by the likes of any of them, George is utterly terrified.
• Comments: Set somewhere at the beginning of series one, the fic manages to capture the three characters with an almost stunning accuracy. A cute, really quite perfectly characterised one shot, it's a fic to leave you with the warm fuzzies without losing anything distinctly Being Human about it — a rare and beautiful thing to find in a fic.

Little Notions by mswyrr.

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Annie, Tom, and Hal all do little things that make them human. When Annie points out that Eve hasn't got any nice clothes, Hal sets about changing that.
• Comments: This has absolutely amazing characterisation. Everyone is spot on, and the story is written so beautifully. This also really sets up the relationship between the three of them, and it's honestly written like it could have been taken from the show itself. I can't do this little fic justice, but it's a truely beautiful little piece.

The Witching Hour by Kerichi.

• Synopsis: When it comes to Annie and Mitchell, kiss is just a kiss. Takes place after episode 2 of series 1.
• Pairings: Slight Annie and Mitchell, just the barest ghost of it.
• Tags: Annie/Mitchell, no sex, just thoughts of sex.
• Comments: Very light, kinda sweet fic, a bit like a meringue.

Disappear Here by Yvearia

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: "I'm in the wrong house. I'm in the wrong room. Someplace in someone else's shoes." What's going on in the lives of George, Mitchell, Annie and Nina? Everything seems to be fine ... if you squint. But there's something ... Sooner or later it all comes crumbling down.
• Pairings: Canon pairings (Annie/Mitchell and George/Nina).
• Tags: Rated M for Mature. Sex does happen. But so does a whole lot of plot.
• Comments: A rather original take on the "After The End = Everybody's in Heaven Together" theme that seems pretty prevalent in Being Human fanfic. Creepy and sweet at the same time (somewhat like the show itself), this story feels a bit like a walk on a tightrope above an abyss - right down to the inevitable (and admittedly clever) ending.

"Walking with a Ghost" by saemay

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Mayhem ensues when someone comes looking for Alex while Hal is still detoxing. Post Season 4, written prior to season 5. Honolulu Heights household centric with a couple of plot placed originals. Remorse, recovery, rapport to redemption. Friendship can go a long way
• Pairings: Hal/Alex, background Tom/Allison; sequel includes Adam/Yvonne
• Comments: An alternative take on post-Season 4 that presents a fascinating exploration of Hal and Alex's relationship (as well as some fascinating ideas regarding what distinguishes an 'Old One' from other vampires beyond age), as Hal takes a greater effort to detox and finds himself forming an exceptional bond with Alex, aided by the discovery that the circumstances of Alex's death mean that she actually has a physical presence when with Hal.

Tower of Bone by Blood.Stained.Fingers

• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: AU: "I had considered raising her myself ... in a tower of bone...I think we'd have got a good eighty years out of her, before she passed of her own accord." In which the vampires win and Mr Snow follows up on his promise to raise Eve in a tower of bone.
• Warning(s): Character deaths
• Comments: A very chilling look at how Eve's life may have gone were she raised by Mr Snow and the vampires. The entire cast is well written, especially Eve, who we're able to see throughout all her various stages of life while kept in captivity.

Crossover Fics

A fan fiction which incorporates characters, events, places, ideas, etc from another fandom.

Sing Until Your Lungs Give Out by Sharpest_Rose

• Recommended by Silver Slippers
• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: A crossover between Harry Potter and Being Human. Sometime during Season 2 and after Order of the Phoenix, Annie and Remus have tea and chat for a bit.
• Comments: It was really cute and it seemed to capture the series well. These two fandoms seem to mesh rather well, at least for this fic they do.

Monsters; A Thor and Being Human crossover by Coneycatjr

• Recommended by Headspace
• Status: Complete
• Synopsis: Loki falls into another realm, and learns there is more than one way to deal with being a monster.
• Comments: A crossover between Thor and Being Human. Wait, it's better than it sounds, and the sequels are even better than that. Loki, after letting go of the Bifrost, lands in someone's dustbins. Whose? The cast of Being Human of course. A really touching story about personal growth, acceptance, healing, and rhinos. Everybody is written well and in-character.
