Alternatively: In another world where Izuku is attacked by the sludge villain on the way to school instead of after it, his dreams get crushed too soon. With nothing to save him and Katsuki’s words ringing in his ears, Izuku decides to end it all by jumping off his school’s roof. As his body cracks on the ground, Izuku does not pass on to the next world. Instead, he is left as a ghost among many others. When the slime villain escapes from jail and attacks the person Izuku can’t help but care for, he learns that there may be more to his afterlife than he thought.
And maybe he can be a hero after all.

- Torei's past heavily implies that at some point in his life, he had been kidnapped by All for One, which eventually led to his death.
- Chapter 5 has snippets of Hizashi forcefully trying to get Izuku to actviate his quirk. After a final visit to the doctor, which concluded he was quirkless, Hisashi left both his wife and son.
- Eldritch Location: The place Izuku disappears to after Aizawa erases his quirk.
- First-Episode Twist: Izuku commits suicide between chapters 1 & 2.
- For Want Of A Nail:
- All Might and Katsuki's words is what eventually leads Izuku to commiting suicide.
- Heel Realization: Played with, in Katsuki's case. He comes to realize how much he had hurt Izuku and how it eventually lead to his death, but during an arguement with Mitsuki, he is quick to blame others and even calls Izuku a coward for jumping off the roof.
- In Spite of a Nail: Katsuki is still attacked by the slime villain and is still saved by Izuku, except it happens four months later than in the original canon timeline.
- Meaningful Name: The title of the fanfic, along with chapter names which are romanized Japanese, with their English translations in brackets.
- Mind Rape: Happens when Aizawa uses his quirk to erase Izuku's during the Apprehension Exam. After his quirk is erased, Izuku is sent to a place that can only be described as Lovecraftian. Once Aizawa deactivates his quirk and Izuku returns, he is Covered in Scars and disassocciated.
- Nightmare Face:
- During Izuku's death scene, which is in Katsuki's narrative. Izuku is described as having a Broken Smile and Blood from the Mouth. At the end of Chapter 3, He is described as having a Thousand-Yard Stare.
- Reverse Cerebus Syndrome: The story starts off a bit angsty with Izuku's self-deprecating thoughts and Katsuki's guilt. But after Izuku's return, the tone shifts back to light, with a lot of funny and fluffy moments.
- Shipper on Deck: Mainly Uraraka. When she officially meets Izuku and Katsuki, she asks them if they are dating, and says that they would make a cute couple. She even compares their relationship to that of the 'Cute Nerd and Bad Boy' trope. One omake shows a conversation between Izuku and Katsuki from Kirishima's POV, who was with Uraraka and Jirou. Her Hardcore Shipping leaves Jirou concerned for her.
- Slasher Smile: Izuku gives one to Shigaraki when he is possessed by the later's poltergeist family during the USJ arc.
