Fanfic / Yu-Gi-Oh! Extra CCC: Path to the King

Go To

Yu-Gi-Oh! Extra CCC: Path to the King is a Crossover between Fate/EXTRA and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, though it also contains character's from GX's manga. It begins with Hakuno waking up his memory a little hazy but he is quite sure he was being deleted. It appears that he is in a large scale waiting room, he soon learns that Gilgamesh who he remembers saved him has taken him to some far off world and has enrolled him at Duel Academy so that he may learn how to play the kings's card game.

While at first it follows the general outline of the GX story line it soon starts to steer away from that as Hakuno's and Gilgamesh's actions have a domino effect involving characters from it's predecessor Yu-Gi-Oh! such as Maximillion Pegasus and Seto Kaiba. As of the later Chapters it seems that the Red Faction from Fate/Apocrypha as well as characters like Jeanne de Arc and Jack the Ripper have appeared as well. This crossover starts on a generally light note the themes progressively get darker as it goes on with more of the Nasuverse villains getting involved.

Has not been updated since 2018, earning the status of Dead Fic.

This story contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Several Character from the manga appear every now and again. Most prominent is Midiori Hibiki the Councillor of the Slifer Red dorm. On that note Professor Stein and Sartyr
  • Adaptational Heroism: Kaiba and Pegasus here are far more Heroic than they were in Yu-Gi-Oh!, at one point when Hakuno and Jaden were confronted by Jeanne de Arc he even considers pulling a You Shall Not Pass! coupled with a Heroic Sacrifice to let the two of them escape. Good thing everything worked out in the end.
  • Affably Evil: Sartorius to a lesser extent and to a greater Shirou Kotomine and Shakespeare of course.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Gilgamesh, King of Heroes, first hero king of humanity is called Gil by Hakuno.
  • Ascended Extra: While Pegasus does have rather important role in the TV series story line here he and Kaiba take on more active roles in GX.
  • Bad Ass Boast: when facing against Franz who had stolen an Egyptian God Card Kaiba states that he he can defeat Franz with any deck.
  • Bad Boss: Kaiba fires Crowler when the acting chancellor goes a little too far in his attempt for publicity
    • Benevolent Boss: Turns out Kaiba does have his employees and even the students best interest in mind as when Sartorius and the Society of Light arrives he orders that Duel Academy go into lock down.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Hakuno is probably the most polite and respectful person in this fic, mess with those he calls friends or just be evil and you better watch out, he has the backing of a little army of Heroic Spirits and is quite capable of ordering your death with a word.
  • Big Bad: Sartorius, the D and the Light want to be this but fall short. Shakespeare refers to Shirou Kotomine as this who is for obvious reasons not amused.
  • Blood Knight: Lancer is just one of them. Rider of the Red has it just as bad not to mention what happened when they first met
  • Butt-Monkey: Despite his villain status Sartorius suffers from this as due to certain Heroic Spirits and Hakuno's interference his fortune telling powers are negated and he seems to suffer from the worst failures some people have ever seen.
  • Chick Magnet: Hakuno has Saber (Nero), Caster (Tamamo no Mae), the entire of the Sakura five plus BB herself
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: While Hakuno's monsters which are really Heroic Spirits are rather overpowered meaning that in some duels he walks away without even losing a single life point there are two duels where it really stands out. Where he defeated Aster in less than a single round and where Kaiba you was borrowing it defeated Franze and the Winged Dragon of Ra in a couple of turns.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Aster and Atticus learn the hard way what happens if you push Hakuno too far, given the fact that they managed to rile up Gilgamesh as well didn't help either of their cases, though in Atticus's case he was trying to help. It does not help that insulting him pisses off most of his Servants and the Sakura Five. Archer of the Red learns this when she accidentally offends Gilgamesh by Threatening Hakuno
  • Easily Forgiven: skirted with Aster, the Cast knew he did not intentionally damage Jaden but still they have yet to go out of their way to be nice to him, that said they haven't gone out of their way to be mean either.
  • Enemy Mine: Aster currently is this with Jaden and the crew wanting to stop Sartorius and the 'D'.
  • Epic Fail: When Franz asks Kaiba to back up his boast about defeating him with any deck Jaden and Hakuno were both there, unfortunately Franz assumed that Hakuno was a Ridiculously Average Guy and picked him for Kaiba to use his deck. The Result was well, rather humorous.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While Pegasus may hesitate Kaiba is rather ruthless in his methods. Hakuno is one as well where he mercilessly defeats Aster and Atticus for acting up. He also order's Robin Hood to turn the harmless forest of Duel Academy into a death trap that killed members of the Society of Light and is okay with Lancer setting said forest alight.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Kaiba suffers from this and actually complains about it wondering who actually went and painted him as a ruthless man, he even states that it wasn't Yugi and Joey would not stoop that low.
  • Identical Stranger: Archer and Shirou Kotomine are this, with the latter believing that Archer is who he will become in the future, he's not wrong but it's a different Shirou he is thinking about not him
  • Invincible Hero: Hakuno's deck of Moon Cell and Heroic Spirit cards is powerful enough that he hasn't faced a serious challenge or single loss.
  • It Amused Me: Gilgamesh's motivation for forcing Hakuno into Duel Academy that and he wants to defeat Yugi Moto and claim his place as the king of games
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: There quite a few. Off the bat there is Gilgamesh (obviously), Chazz, EMIYA can count as one. Let's not forget Kaiba either.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: When Crowler crosses the line it hits him big time, he is remove as Chancellor and what's more Kaiba places him as vice councilor to the Slipher Red dorm. Sartorius is hit hard with this getting fired at having most of his brainwashed duelists killed and having to put up with the D. Kaiba also hints that when Shepard get's back he is going to be in deep shit.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Crowler has this after he realizes that the phone call is from Kaiba after deliberately allowing Hakuno and Atticus to duel when Kaiba had given him instructions to prevent such a thing from happening. Sartorius and the D have an episode when they see the Winged Dragon of Ra taken out in under a minute.
  • Moment Killer: Shirou Kotomine and Caster of the Red were having a moment before a member of the Society of Light came in and ruined it by challenging them to a duel, Rider of the Red's reaction to this is rather fitting.
  • Nice Guy: Hakuno fills this role, being the only student who is polite and respectful to the professors and to his senior student. This catches many off by surprise even the teacher's themselves.
  • Nice Job Breaking it King of Heroes: Kaiba would have never been alerted to Hakuno's and Gilgamesh's presence if Gilgamesh had never thrown a tantrum utilising the Gates of Babylon when he he found that his own card had the Divine Attribute. though if not for this act Pegasus and Kaiba would not have been alerted to Sartorius's actions as soon as they had and would have been unable to set up counter measures
  • Physical God: The Winged Dragon of Ra is one when he is summoned. Not that Gilgamesh lets him stay long
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: Hakuno's parameters as a Servant have him with a Noble Phantasm that has this effect, preventing enemy Servants and Master from realising that he is a Heroic Spirit
  • Running Gag: Several character's have pointed out how plain looking Hakuno is and assume that he is nothing special they frequently regret their first impressions. In several of the Omake's Kaiba is involved and ends up getting killed reciting reactions from those present similar to what people said when Lancer died in Carnival Phantasm. Hakuno's Ridiculously Average Guy appearance makes most people assumed he is unimportant turns out he is any but.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Hakuno's deck is filled with original cards based on the Heroic Spirits from Fate/EXTRA. This deck comes packed with support cards that give his monsters insane attack boosts and special abilities, and that's only if the Heroic Spirit monster in question doesn't already have an unbalanced effect or 2 of its own. His deck is so powerful that none of his duels last more than 5 turns, and keep in mind the duels in the fanfic have both players start with 8000 life points, from a time the Metagame isn't about making unkillable combo plays or decks that specifically counters said combo plays. And if that weren't enough, his Servants are very much still able to materialize in the real world and kill people.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Hakuno's reaction to Jaden being defeated by Aster, considering that he is a Magus even if a poor one he sensed the power that was infused within Aster's deck so he rightfully believed that Aster had cheated. If you think his reaction was over the top, most of Duel Academy was baying for Aster's blood when they saw him defeat Zane on live television.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Most characters do this to Hakuno so much that it is becoming something of a running gag. Franz certainly learned the hard way as did Aster.
  • Unluckily Lucky: In an Omake in which Kaiba meets Joey at the Throne of Heroes. apparently Joey had gotten caught up in the events of Fate/stay night, he ends up saving Shirou from Lancer the first time, causing Lancer to trip and go flying sideways. Later Lancer tries to use Gáe Bolg one him only for it to turn sharp at 90 degrees into the air just a it was about to hit him. Kaiba who is recalling all the number of times he has died snaps and walks away saying that the only thing more ridiculous that Yugi's hair is Joey's Luck
  • Xanatos Gambit: Kaiba pulled this off against Franz when he boasted that he could use any deck to defeat the Egyptian God user. the only two present to here this besides Kaiba and Franz was Jaden and Hakuno, either of whicch Kaiba has experience seeing Duel so he has a good grasp of how to use their decks
  • Yandere: most of the Sakura five including BB herself have this for Hakuno, Assassin of the Black develops a little sister variation of this for him after they meet as well.
