The story is set in our world instead of on Remnant. Weiss Schnee is an international pop star whose father and sister decides she needs a bodyguard. They chose a female bodyguard to avoid possible sexual harrassment or sexual tension. Enter Yang Xiao Long. Weiss is unconvinced that such a pretty woman could be a good bodyguard, but overtime she realizes otherwise.
White Noise is a Weiss/Yang story based around Weiss being a popstar and Yang being her bodyguard. It's NSFW and has a lot of lemon scenes, but it's not PWP.
White Noise provides examples of:
- Adaptational Heroism: Jacques is a nice, protective father. This is because the story predates Volume 4.
- Alternate Universe Fic: White Noise is set on Earth. Yang and Weiss meet when Weiss' father hires Yang to be her bodyguard.
- Closet Key: Weiss hadn't been interested in women until she met Yang.
- Hotter and Sexier: In-universe, Weiss underwent a transformation prior to the story. Yang can't believe that the sexy pop-star Weiss Schnee used to be a Christian musician.
- Innocently Insensitive: Weiss starts out as a sheltered Politically Incorrect Hero. She says things that she shouldn't, such as assuming that Yang knows kung-fu because she's Asian and asking invasive things about Yang's body.
- Slash Fic: White Noise is a Weiss/Yang fanfic with some past Blake/Yang. Yang becomes a Closet Key to Weiss.
