where flowers bloom provides examples of:
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Due to the Soulflowers, several occur in the story.
- Due to Bakugou rejecting their soulbond and withering their flower, Izuku doesn't look up to or admire him anymore.
- Toshinori and Tsukauchi are romantic soulmates and dating, as opposed to just being friends.
- Inko barely knows All Might and Tsukauchi, and never met Sir Nighteye in canon. Here, she is quite close to all three men, due to Toshinori and Mirai being Izuku's other parental soulmates.
- Bakugou ends up transferring to 1-B after initially being placed in 1-A (as he promised Izuku he would request if they ended up in the same class), so he's not as close, with Reiko Yanagi taking his place.
- Adaptational Badass: Due to training with Nighteye during the ten months before the exam, Izuku gets OFA three weeks early and develops Full Cowling
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Tsukauchi, Mirio and Sir Nighteye show up about a month after the Sludge Villain Incident, as opposed to the end of the USJ arc and start of the Work Studies/Shie Hassaikai arcs respectively.
- Toga joins the League of Villains prior to the start of the school year, and is there for the USJ.
- Rody makes a cameo during the Sports Festival arc, when the Vestiges accept Izuku as the new Bearer of One For All and change his soulmarks.
- Broken Pedestal: After All Might tells Izuku he can't be a hero, Izuku is so devastated that he decides to wither their soulfower.
- Fantastic Racism: Quirkless people are considered second-class citizens, with many businesses refusing to serve them and Aldera's teachers all turn either a blind eye to Izuku's bullying, or place the blame on him for it.
- Flower Motifs: Soulmates are marked by tattoos of flower buds on a vine that ever person gets in early childhood, and whenever someone's marks bloom, their meaning is described in the chapter notes.

- Rescue Romance: Shortly after realizing they're romantic soulmates, Izuku saves Ochako from the Zero Pointer.
