Fanfic / When In Doubt Blame Q

Go To

The Q muck about with things in the past to try and change things for a more beneficial outcome in the future. The Q we all know and love (hate) thinks they're idiots, and that he needs to throw an even bigger wrench into things than the others. All in all, an average Tuesday for the Q. Unfortunately, reaching for a universe with people who are on the same level of crazy as Star Fleet probably wasn't the best idea Q ever had.

When in doubt, blame Q! is crossover fanfic between Star Trek and StarCraft where Q decided to combine the Alpha Quadrant with the Koprulu Sector in order to give the Federation the push into the "right direction."

With the Federation still recovering from the Borg attack and the Koprulu Sector also recovering from the End War, only time could tell how these two similar yet so different people would interact with each other.

When in Doubt, Blame Q! has examples of Tropes like these:

  • Brutal Honesty: Grigsby spared no detail of how dangerous the Koprulu Sector is, from the massacre of billions committed by Arcturus Mengsk to the Zerg Swarm.
  • Culture Clash: Considering the different natures of the two settings, this is a given.
    • During the first meeting between the Enterprise's crew and Grigsby - a scavenger from Koprulu - the latter wore powered armor which caused some tension. Grigsby justified it with a) it being his most formal suit and b) how danger could come at any time in the Sector, like a pirate attack.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Let's just say that when the Protoss and the Cardassians encountered each other, the event that occurred could not even be called a battle by the former.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Terosh has no sympathy for the Bajorans being enslaved by the Cardassians due to being a Tal'darim. When a Bajoran refugee mentions their children being used as slaves, however, the Protoss suggests burning a Cardassian world as an example.
  • Evil Counterpart: Upon hearing about the Kel-Morian Combine, Troi called them "like the Ferengi, but without any restraint" with Riker agreeing.
  • Trauma Button: The Zerg reminded Picard a tad bit too much of the Borg.
