Go To

We'll Light the Fuse is an in-progress Descendants fanfiction written by evanescentdream93, who has written multiple other stories with the Descendants characters and universe.

The fic starts in the wake of Descendants 2, with Ben keeping his promise to give Uma a chance in Auradon...by making her his Royal Councilor. She, some of her crew, and several other children from the Isle are admitted to Auradon. From there, the story follows the struggle of the Isle kids to acclimate and the struggle of the major players to satiate the dissenting voices in Auradon's political system...all while other forces conspire to ruin everything.

The first chapter of the fic was posted on August 7, 2017.

Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: When Hadie asks Harry, “What good is a queen’s knight if he just undoes all of her work?” Very shortly after, Harry has a panic attack.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Shown through flashback; when CJ was cornered and threatened on the street as a child, both Harry and Harriet found her and killed the ones responsible. (Well, Harriet was the one who killed them, but Harry certainly meant to!)
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Harry takes this responsibility upon himself, in his protectiveness of Uma. Uma points out that she is capable of taking care of herself.
  • Creepy Child: Peter Pan is definitely this. The delusional way he interacts with characters like Evie and Tiger Lily are just the start.
  • Enemy Mine: Invoked, when Uma and Mal have to work together to save those they care about from a malicious third party.
  • Physical Gods: Since Hercules is canon to this fic (and to Descendants), we see some of these. Persephone takes a vested interest in Uma, and there is a scene of Hermes arguing with Persephone about having done so. (Posts on the author's Tumblr page take it even further, in that she has celebrity dreamcasts of many characters, including the god characters.)
  • Pregnant Badass: Harriet Hook. Not that she'll admit that she is pregnant.
  • Sibling Team: What CJ is hoping for. She kidnaps Harry, to accomplish it.
  • There Are No Therapists: Subverted; Auradon Prep has a guidance counselor, and it is established that several of the Isle kids are given sessions with him. And you'll never guess who the guidance counselor is!
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Downplayed, but when Harriet digs her nails into the back of Jonas's neck to scold him, Jonas worries that someone will notice how it turns him on.
  • Touch of Death: Implied to be the case, at least to an extent, with Hadie; he always wears gloves, and at one point he is described repotting a wilted plant. When he touches Herkie, the skin is blackened and hurt in the shape of his hand.
Even with gloves on, he was aware of the delicate nature of life at his fingertips.
  • Translation: "Yes": Overlaps, comedically, with Tactful Translation when Baymax asks Harry if he is satisfied with his care, after helping him through a panic attack. Harry responds with a lengthy insult, to which Baymax responds that his pirate translator dubs this an affirmative.
  • Yandere: Harry shows signs of this; when a student harms Uma, Jay runs to Ben insisting that he get to her before Harry sees that she's been hurt, since Harry is guaranteed to want revenge on the person who caused it.
