Wargs and Peace
is a Hobbit Fanfic, published by LavenderCrystalOfRoses on Fanfiction.net December 22, 2014, and completed December 25th, 2014. The story follows The Company as they search for Thorin, who mysteriously disappeared during a terrible storm.
Wargs and Peace contains examples of:
- After Action Patch Up: After Thorin has been turned back. Taken up to eleven when they realize that they nearly killed him when he was a warg.
- Answering Echo: When Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Dori, and Nori are out looking for Thorin, Dwalin suggests they go, as there is a warg around:Dwalin: Lad's, we'd better leave. Remember the warg?Kili: But then we'd have to find him. Remember the warg?
- Bait-and-Switch Comment: Just after the burning branch has fallen on the warg (who is actually Thorin.) the company makes several comments where it looks like they're on the verge of figuring out exactly who the warg is. However, at the last second, it's revealed to not be the case. Even after Gandalf inadvertently turns him back, there's one instance of this.
- Big "NO!": Played straight When Fili thinks Thorin is dead... And throws a knife at him seconds later.
- Bearer of Bad News:
- Balin, when the company believes that Thorin is dead. (He's not)
- Also Balin when he and Gandalf FINALLY figure out who the warg is. They don't believe him at first.
Balin: EVERYONE! We may have been hunting one of our own this entire time.Dori: Impossible.- Fortunately for Thorin, they do see the truth soon after.
- Darker and Edgier: The fic is noticably more serious and morose then the author's other lighter hearted works.
- Forced Transformation: Thorin is turned into a warg.
- Lightning Can Do Anything: How Thorin became a warg.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Part Three very much focuses on the company's guilt after they learn who they nearly killed, Thorin, who they were actually trying to avenge.
