Waking Dream
is a Blood+ Fan Fic written by Vergil Divas chevalier.
The fic focuses on Reeve Roswell, who gets wrapped up in the Red Shield/chiropteran war upon coming across an amnesiac Diva and falling in love with her.
Waking Dream contains examples of the following tropes:
- And I Must Scream: Over the course of several chapters, Diva is captured by the Red Shield and subjected to all manner of gruesome Meatgrinder Surgeries until she's reduced to little more than a pile of organs and a skull. Through it all, Diva is still alive and fully conscious until Reeve shows up and puts her back together again.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: The reason Diva falls in love with Reeve: he was the very first human to ever treat her with any genuine kindness.
- Dances and Balls: Nathan throws a magnificent ball to celebrate Diva's return.
- Defector from Decadence: Saya ultimately leaves the Red Shield in disgust at what Maxim Kiril has done to the organization since he took over, particularly after finding out that several soldiers killed Reeve's friend Nathan, a human civilian, and gang-raped Diva under his orders.
- Emergency Transformation: After Reeve is mortally wounded by Kiril, Diva turns him into a chevalier to save his life.
- General Ripper: Maxim Kiril, who somehow managed to take over the Red Shield after the passing of Joel Goldschmidt. Under his leadership, the organization deteriorates and becomes increasingly corrupted to the point that Saya actually resigns upon finding out just what kind of atrocities he has committed.
- Multiple Endings: There are two different endings: one in which Reeve dies, and one in which he lives.
Word of God outright states that neither ending is particularly canon, and leaves it up to the readers to decide. - What Is Evil?: During a confrontation with Saya and the Red Shield, Reeve outright says that in the real world, there's no such thing as good or evil, just opposing sides.
