A list of tropes pertaining to Vienna Burning, which details the Yandere Quartet's attempts at destabilizing division 2 of the SLS.

Although a stand-alone tale in the pantheon's canon, it does get some references in later tales, and includes a few Continuity Nods to the ones prior. The tale can be read here.

Vienna Burning provides examples of:

  • Beige Prose: Occasionally prone to this.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Subverted during Day 1. Hungary randomly collapses, and as everyone's trying to figure out what's going on, Konaka shows up.... only she turns out to be Belarus dressed up as her, and starts throwing knives at everyone.
  • Big "NO!": Setsuna, right after Tsukuyomi tries to kill Konaka during the Final Battle.
  • The Chew Toy: Austria, who gets blown up, kidnapped, medically experimented on, blown up again, injected with a mutated form of Hinamizawa Syndrome, accidentally shot in the head, set on fire, and decapitated by a handsaw.
  • Comic-Book Time: Averted. The story begins a week after the destruction of the Friendship Asylum, which puts it at July/early August 2014.
  • Continuity Nod: Kairi is still working in the GUAG Medical Division. Probably because she's looking after Sora, who was also a patient at the time (though he is never mentioned).
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Hungary gives one to everyone experimenting on Austria with her pan on Day 13
  • Distressed Dude / Damsel in Distress: Kuzuryuu, Konaka, and Austria, who are all kidnapped by the GUAE. So is Switzerland. Subverted with everyone except Austria, who escape on their own.
  • Evil Plan: A major part of this arc is the Yandere Quartet's plan to disable the SLS, which consists of a) blowing up parts of Europe, b) kidnapping the love interests of everyone in the SLS, c) infecting the SLS with Hinamizawa Syndrome, and d) after the SLS killed each other, killing their love interests.
  • Final Battle: Day 13.
  • Hate Plague: A major part of the Yandere Quartet's plans involve infecting the SLS with Hinamizawa Syndrome.
  • Healthcare Motivation: Kairi works at the medical division throughout the tale to cover Sora's medical expenses after he lost a leg, and for her own broken arm.
  • Heel Realization: Belarus gets one right after witnessing the SLS's actions under Hinamizawa Syndrome, which she was told by Yuno to do. This doesn't last.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Peko disables Nu-13 during the Final Battle by forcing her to impale herself with her own swords.
  • I Have Your Wife: The Yandere Quartet kidnaps Kuzuryuu, Konaka, and Austria in an attempt to lure the SLS towards them.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Belarus' motivation for pretty much everything she does in this story.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Nu-13 impales Kuzuryuu on Day 2 and Peko on day 13. She is also disabled in this way.
  • I Should Write a Book About This: Because Kairi (and, to a lesser extent, Sora) had been indirectly involved in the whole event, Riku wrote of the whole events as the fourth entry of the Villains Log, as revealed in "Reformation of Law".
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: Raygo Kiryun's notes on Austria's condition only refer to him as 'the subject' or 'it'.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Belarus, right after she encounters Lithuania. She plans to bomb Vilnius to kill him.
  • The Medic: For the GUAG Medical Division, Kairi is this. She's paying off her debt to Black Jack, and is helping to look after one of her friends, who had been injured just days earlier.
  • Pinned to the Wall: Nu-13 pins Kuzuryuu to a wall on Day 2 before impaling him, and does the same to Peko on Day 13.
  • Reset Button Ending: For the mortal plane.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Switzerland goes on one against the GAUE after Liechtenstein gets blown up. He gets kidnapped by them during this.
  • Say My Name: Setsuna's on the receiving end of this twice. Once by Tsukuyomi and once by Konaka.
  • Serial Killer: Kotonoha becomes this in Austria.
  • Spanner in the Works: Mion Sonozaki. If she hadn't switched places with Shion, the Yandere Quartet's plan of letting the SLS destroy itself under Hinamizawa Syndrome would've worked
  • The Stinger: Two of them. During the first one, Estonia wakes up in the hospital, and tries to figure out why he's two weeks out of synch with his country. The second one takes place about two weeks later and reveals that the whole thing was being told by Sapphire to Almaz.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The Yandere Quartet bombs parts of Europe in an attempt to disable Hungary and Austria. Liechtenstein and Estonia also get blown up during the story.
  • Switching P.O.V.: Almost every single character gets a POV segment, and some events are narrated from a group POV.
  • Sympathetic P.O.V.: Played straight with Belarus, averted with Yuno, Kotonoha, Raygo, Tsukuyomi, and Nu-13.
  • Twin Switch: Mion and Shion switched places before the events of the story.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Lithuania. If Belarus hadn't run into him right after her Heel Realization, she wouldn't been reminded of how he turned her into an unloved person, wouldn't tried to kill him by blowing up Vilnius, and actually blown up Tallinn.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Belarus to the Yandere Quartet.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The last scene Belarus is in features her flying a plane over what she believes is Vilnius and trying to blow it up. It's never specified what happened to her after that.
