Varium Fortune
is a noir-AU fan fiction based on The Legend of Korra, written by agnikai58. The story follows a disgraced private eye, Korra, as she is hired by the Sato family to investigate a recent break-in and theft of some of Hiroshi Sato’s plans. Working with Hiroshi’s daughter, Asami, Korra finds her enthralled in a mystery which leads to the last place she expected.
Varium Fortune contains examples:
- Adaptational Villainy: Asami in the show is a hero and Korra’s Number Two. Here, she's revealed to be a Femme Fatale who uses Korra to find the man who murdered her mom before framing her for killing him. She also later plans to blow up a bank and frame Mako and Bolin.
- Big Bad: Hiroshi hires Korra to find the man who broke into his house. However, it is eventually revealed that this is lie. He faked the break in to find the man who killed his wife and wipe out crime in the city. Hiroshi even has his daughter frame her for killing the man, and sends his daughter to build up an army to destroy the Triple Threats.
- Crazy-Prepared: Asami has a plan for every possibility, can quickly think of a solution to any problem and is adept at manipulating everyone from Korra to the Earth Queen.
- Distracted by the Sexy: Korra repeatedly gets distracted by Asami’s beauty. It aids Asami in manipulating her.
- Dragon-in-Chief: Hiroshi came up with the plan to destroy the Triple Threats, but Asami is the one who is carrying out said plan. She also has changes the plan repeatedly, such as recruiting Korra instead of killing her.
- Femme Fatale: Asami's revealed to be one, as she seduces Korra repeatedly and constantly betrays her.
- Private Eye: Korra is reimagined here as a private eye hired to investigate a break-in at the Sato mansion.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Asami and Hiroshi want to eliminate crime and prevent a war with the Fire Nation. However, they are willing to kill and frame anyone to do so.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Asami says she sees Korra has the potential to be more than a private eye and wants her to lead her revolution against the Triple Threats.
