Twilight of The Superheroes
is a Marvel Comics fanfiction by the writer Maksvell that bases its premise on Alan Moore's The Twilight of the Superheroes, but setting it within the Marvel Universe. It deviates further from there with it taking place fully within the present of a world divided by The Houses of Heroes with the House of Fantastic planning on taking full control away from The House of Might which is headed by the Avengers.
Tropes found in the fanfiction:
- Adaptational Gender Identity: Starlord is typically a man in most settings, but in this fanfiction is almost exclusively referred to as 'she'. Granted, it could also be an Affirmative-Action Legacy at the helm.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Lunella Layfayette always landed on the softer side of meanness, but in the story, she very casually aids in a torturous punishment of a Screentime.
- Adaptational Job Change: Kamala Khan is the Midnight King of The Inhumans.
- Adaptational Sexuality:
- Neither Beast nor Wonder Man haven shown to be interested in each other. Here they are in a relationship with each other.
- Kamala in canon has only been shown to be heterosexual and monogamous. Here she has shown to take multiple consorts, including Viv Vision, Nakia Bahadir and Zoe Zimmer.
- Animal Motifs: Kamala compares the bad blood between Lunella and Valeria to Betta fish.
- Bureaucratically Arranged Marriage: Valeria Richards of the House of Fantastic is set to marry Gabby Kinney of the House of X.
- Death by Adaptation:
- Jubilee was murdered by Laura Kinney.
- Reed Richards and Sue Storm were killed in an explosion.
- It's implied that Devil Dinosaur and was killed by Deadpool, just like Luke Cage.
- Sam Alexander is killed by a Skrull impostor of Carol Danvers.
- Double-Meaning Title: Ch. 4, "The Bomb", refers to the Atom Bomb, the Gamma Bomb, the Terrigen Bomb, and to Screentime's bombing campaign.
- The Good Queen: Kamala genuinely tires to be this, as shown by torpedoing the Genetic Council's attempts to bring back the Alpha Primitives and not wanting preemptively attack Houses Fantastic and X.
- Mythology Gag: Valeria mentions curing the Survivor 118 virus as part of her Badass Boast in ch. 12.
- Named by the Adaptation: The character Screentime was originally meant to appear in a revival of Marvel's New Warriors, but the project never got off the table. In this fanfiction, he is given the name Sile Chen.
- Offing the Offspring: Magneto killed Quicksilver in the backstory.
- Related in the Adaptation: Screentime and Xiaoyi Chen are siblings.
- She Is the King: Kamala is refered to as the Midnight King. Downplayed as she's also referred as Queen Marvel.
- Wham Line:
- Ch. 2 ends with "Through Simon, Beast could hear their little political games and he took notes of all of their responses".
- Ch. 3 ends with Valeria receiving the following in morse: "GALACTUS IS DOWN, READY FOR STEP TWO?", indicating she's in some sort of relation with the House of Galaxy.
- Ch 12. with Kamala saying she's interested in joining the Houses of X and Fantasic's alliance
