Go To

Turn on the Light is a The Owl House and Harry Potter AU, in which a Married to the Job Harry ends up crossing into the Isles at the same time as Luz.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • Harry makes it very clear to Luz about halfway through just how deadly some of her antics could have been.
    • He also forces her to keep her human nature secret from her friends, which puts her in the position of having to constantly lie to the people she cares about.
    • Vee starts draining Eda of her magic when she goes to stay with her, which unknowingly accelerates the Owl Beast curse's progression.
    • Grom manages to dig a lot deeper than he did in canon, thanks to Harry warning Luz and Amity about fears they might not know about.
  • Ambiguously Related: Samuel Croaker, a wizard who ended up in the Boiling Isles in 1902, might have fathered the child of Amanda Blight, Amity's ancestress through Alador, but it's not confirmed. If they are related, that would mean that Amity and Luna Lovegood are distant cousins.
  • Composite Character: The Titan was the one who met with the three brothers and created the Elder Wand and Resurrection Stone with some of his blood, and helped the third brother get his invisibility cloak, with the In-Between realm being where the meeting took place, and the Veil being the result of the Titan turning the portal they used into a one-way ticket to the Beyond afterward.
  • Fusion Fic: The Earth of the Owl House is mixed with Harry Potter's, though things after the defeat of Voldemort went a bit differently than in canon.
  • Married to the Job: Harry is explicitly described as this in this AU, his focus on his work as an Auror eventually causing his personal relationships to crumble.
  • Sequel Hook: While Luz and Harry manage to return from the Boiling Isles, Belos is still out there, among other things.
  • Unreliable Expositor: In Bill's flashback, the Titan Trapper elder telling the story of the Titan Trappers forming and the origins of the Titans got his information from the Archivists, so their information is clearly suspect at best, like how the Archivists blamed the Titans for hurting the planet when it was really them.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While on the Boiling Isles, Samuel Croaker met Belos and told him about the magic users of Earth when he realized that he was British but didn't know about human wizards and witches, figuring that it couldn't cause any harm since he was already on the Isles and aware of magic. Obviously, he was unaware that Belos is a genocidal witch hunter who already plans to kill the entirety of the Boiling Isles, and now has a new target once that goal is met...
