Go To

Total Drama: Cody's Redemption is a Total Drama fanfic made by CosmicWarrior. It is based on the popular Peggy Sue fic Total Drama Redemption.

It has been ten years since the premiere of Total Drama. Cody, a former TD contestant still finds himself singled and friend zoned even after TD has ended. As time went on, he found himself losing his optimistic, pervy and geeky nature and become rather depressed. All he ever wanted was to have someone in his life that he could share his love with. If only he was given a second chance to undo all of his mistakes he made back on that show. He would get his chance later on one average night, then waking up the next day to find himself back as a teenager again and returns back to the island. Will he be able to redeem himself? What changes will our new hero will bring upon this show? Are we gonna learn anything new about him that we were unable to do the first time? Will he be able to finally get himself a girlfriend on this show? Will he even go so far as to win? All will be answered right here on Total Drama: Cody's Redemption.

This story has examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Cody's backstory is horrific and intense.
    • He has been suffering from child neglect and bullying which drove him into depression.
    • He nearly gave up on his life and almost committed suicide once by shooting himself in the head by his father's revolver, but dropped it at the last second.
    • He later adopted his optimistic persona to combat the world.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Gwen, while also cold to Cody in the beginning of the canon series when he pursued her, she did warm up to him when he hooked her up with Trent and came to consider him a friend. In this story, she never warms up to him despite Cody never pursuing her and hooking her up with Trent. And she also is meaner and more distressing of Cody in this story than she was in canon. Then chapter 22 reveals that Gwen has a very petty reason to dislike Cody and her hatred of him is so strong that she outright ignores all the good he does and admits she wishes he was mauled by the bear. However, Gwen reached the limit of her hatred during an argument with Cody when she told him to kill himself, causing Cody to run away. Gwen was horrified with herself for saying that and admitted she mess up.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Gwen, unlike her canon self, has a deep hatred of geeks, convinced that any niceness they show is nothing but a facade they use to seduce girls naive enough to believe them.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon Cody had limited interactions with Bridgette, Courtney, and Lindsay. Here they're his closest friends, with both Bridgette and Lindsay interested in getting together with Cody.
    • Cody and Gwen are an interesting case. In canon, Cody had a big crush on her and spent his time on Total Drama trying to impress her, while she was cold to him. He got the hint that she was not interested in him, and set her up with their mutual friend Trent, causing her to warm up to Cody and them becoming friends. In this story, Cody never pursues Gwen, already aware that it would be useless, but Gwen is cold to Cody despite him never giving her any reason to distrust her. In fact, she's much meaner here than she was in canon. Even when Cody set her up with Trent, she still can't tell Trent what Cody supposedly did to anger her, and, despite her promising Trent to give Cody a chance, she remains cold to Cody and ungrateful to him. Chapter 22 revealed Gwen had a deep hatred of geeks and was never going to give Cody a chance unlike in canon.
    • Unlike canon, Lindsay and Tyler don't start a romantic relationship, with Lindsay gently telling Tyler that she likes Cody already. They still stay good friends afterwards.
    • Bridgette doesn't form a crush towards Geoff due to being interested in Cody, and Geoff is into her, but lets his feelings go and supports her crush on Cody.
  • Aggressive Categorism: As noted below under Beware the Nice Ones, Gwen is convinced that all geeks only act nice in order to seduce girls.
  • All for Nothing: After reading Gwen’s diary, he learns the truth of how she truly feels about him: which is, that no matter what route he took in wooing her whether pursuing her or not, he never ever had a chance with her.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: What Lindsay was counting on when she did a cheer routine for the talent show. As she mostly did it to show off to Cody to see if he thinks she's hot, and was pleased when his reaction showed that, yes, he does.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Gwen's opinion on geeks, due to previous bad experiences. That's why she thinks Cody is just pretending to be a Nice Guy while secretly trying to manipulate and seduce as many girls as possible.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The description says it all. Cody travels back to his sixteen-year-old body and competes for a second time on Total Drama Island. Because of his knowledge of the whole season, he’ll be changing things up from what originally happened into a new timeline.
  • Awful Truth: In chapter 22, Cody learns that Gwen has a very petty reason to hate him; she was hit on a lot by geeks, and none was exactly a Nice Guy, so she's convinced geeks are nothing but a bunch of losers and pervs.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Cody when he finally hits his Rage Breaking Point with Gwen.
    • Lindsay is no slouch either when she sets the record straight with the goth girl about her relationship with Cody. Saying that she and Cody are friends and that he isn't tricking her so he can be perverted with her note , she's hugging him that way because she knows he enjoys it and she's in love with him. She also repeated Cody's insult for Gwen the first time she spoke before chasing after him.
    • Gwen's whole mindset when it comes to geeks; she's convinced that any niceness they show is nothing but a facade they use to seduce girls naive enough to believe them.
  • Big-Breast Pride: While fighting over Cody in front of the other campers, Lindsay insults Bridgette by saying her breasts are only 'medium sized.'
  • Bungled Suicide: Cody tries to kill himself with his father's revolver when he was eleven. However, he stopped himself at the last second reminding himself of what he was doing.
  • Character Development: Unlike the original Total Drama series where he’s seen as a pervy geek, Cody is given real character development in this story.
  • Chick Magnet: Cody’s drawing in Lindsay’s and Bridgette’s affections unintentionally.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Though it does take him at least some time before he realizes either of these girls have feelings for him, despite how obvious the first blonde is being about it.
  • Crack Defeat: At the talent show, Cody and Tyler face-off in a tiebreaker, with Cody playing his keyboard and Tyler doing yoyo tricks. All the contestants, including Tyler's team, agree that Cody's performance was far superior; however, Tyler is declared the winner, to everyone's surprise. A later confessional has Chef, the judge, explaining that this was because of his personal preferences, as he dislikes electronic music.
  • Darker and Edgier: The story is more dramatic and less humorous. An example would be the nightmares Cody's been having for a while.
    • The first nightmare had him facing against an aggressive Duncan, a devastated Courtney, a court, the castmates pointing and laughing at him, Gwen slicing him with a knife, and a stalkerish and psychopathic Sierra.
    • The second nightmare had Cody back in the jumbo jet from season three as he comes across Gwen and Duncan making out.
    • The third nightmare had him as a prisoner to Alejandro, who’s an emperor of some ripped off Roman Empire and has Lindsay and Bridgette as his sex slaves. Cody was then beheaded in front of Lindsay and Bridgette and quickly wakes up.
    • The fourth nightmare had Cody as dinner to a bear family. This time he’s aware of that he’s in a nightmare.
    • His fifth has him reading Gwen's diary, showing how she really feels about him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It’s revealed in this fic that Cody had a troubled past of child neglection, bullying, teasing, and rejection. He went into depression because of it.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: When Cody finally gets the chance to find out why Gwen hates him, he is both this and furious that it was just a case of her being petty, Confirmation Bias and a dose of Insane Troll Logic.
  • Downer Beginning: At the start of the story, Cody has lost touch with his optimistic nature and became a downer in his young adult years. He reflects back to his time on Total Drama and thought about how Gwen isn’t the girl that he thought she was. Or at least use to be. He’s also a loner and still has yet to find his special someone.
  • Dumb Blonde: Lindsay certainly appears to be this way, except it's clear that she does have some genuine problems retaining certain facts.
    • Gwen completely believes Lindsay is this along with every other blonde stereotype in that she's a bimbo with implants who Cody is tricking into motorboating because she is too dumb to realize he is a horny little creep.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Gwen hates Cody because of her hatred of geeks in general, and ignores the good he has done for her and the team, but when she tells Cody to kill himself, she is shocked and knows she went too far. When Cody runs away, Gwen breaks down and admits she messed up.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Duncan admits that, despite being a delinquent and proud of it, he'd never go as far as killing someone.
  • Fix Fic: Cody’s brings out his full potential in this story. In the original series, it is felt that the writers wasted his potential and kept him as a pervy geek, and later a grabbing toy for Sierra.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Cody’s actions in the new timeline diverges from what originally happened in the canon.
    • In the very first challenge, Cody decided to jump off the cliff first, which caused Lindsay to fall in love with him instead of Tyler.
    • In the third challenge, Cody saves Lindsay from an incoming ball, catches it, and brings out Noah to compete. This led Noah to contribute to the challenge and Justin was eliminated instead.
    • After the talent contest, Cody is the one to dump the ants on Heather.
    • The biggest example would be Cody in the paintball challenge. Since he's aware of what happened already, he prepares himself to face off against any bear that might make a jump on him.
  • Frameup: Someone frames Leshawna for taking the idol by putting it on her bag.
  • Freudian Excuse: It's eventually revealed that Gwen hates Cody because a lot of geeks hit on her, and none had good intentions.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Cody doesn't think Gwen's Freudian Excuse justifies all her bias against him; see Disappointed by the Motive.
  • Freudian Slip: Lindsay calls Cody her boyfriend at least one well before making any real move on him.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: Two hot blondes, Bridgette and Lindsay, are fighting over short, gap toothed geek Cody, while Courtney, a beautiful brunette, is warming up to him.
  • Heroic BSoD: DJ is heartbroken after the fight between Cody and Gwen, due to how dired Cody is and even cries in the confessional.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Cody and Trent immediately become good friends after settling in, and their bond slowly grows throughout their time on the island.
    • Cody and Trent played their musical instruments together after the first challenge.
    • Trent comforts Cody whenever he's feeling troubled. An example would be after his third nightmare.
    • Cody does Trent a favour by hooking him up with Gwen like last time. Trent later thanks him for that.
    • Cody shares some blueberries with Trent (and also some with Noah).
  • Idiot Ball: Trent when he decides to vote off Leshawna because he think she's cursed, and does not listen to Cody and Noah's rational argument about at least waiting to vote her off and vote off Heather first.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Cody's main objective in the contest, along with winning, is to make real friends. He reveals this when he lashes at Gwen when she accuses him of stealing his diary.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Lindsay exploits this trope. It might seem that she is doing fanservicey things by accident, but it's all part of her campaign to seduce Cody.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Gwen had a bad experience with geeks at her school hitting on her and being perverted creeps. So now she thinks all geeks are perverted little creeps.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite some massive changes that Cody made, there were still some events that remained the same.
    • Ezekiel made his sexist comments which resulted in him being the first to be eliminated.
    • Heather steals Eva’s MP3 player and uses it against her. Once Eva threw her rage after the Awake-a-thon, Heather gave Eva’s MP3 player back. Eva was voted off second.
    • Katie and Sadie get lost in the woods again during the camping challenge. Like last time, Katie gets eliminated.
    • Tyler gets eliminated after the Phobia Challenge.
    • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police finds Izzy after the Boney Island challenge and Izzy runs away from them like last time.
    • Harold still get pranked by Duncan, DJ, and Geoff for leaving his dirty underwear around their cabin, ignoring Cody's advice about admitting his mistake and apologizing.
    • The one who used the idol from Boney Island as a decoration during the meal challenge is blamed by the team for losing and is voted off. Except since Beth is already gone, it's Leshawna. The only difference being that she didn't take the idol. She found it in her bag after someone put it in there.
  • Irony:
    • Cody acted like a ladies man the first time and fails to get a girlfriend. He decides not to pursue romance in his second chance and ends up with multiple girls who want to be his girlfriend.
    • Cody's mother runs one of the biggest and most successful charity organizations in the world, but is always so busy trying to help other people that she never has time for her son.
  • Irrational Hatred: Gwen has this to Cody. Despite Cody doing nothing to warrant this hatred and hooking her with Trent she still treats him with distress. Even Gwen's friends Leshawna and Trent don't understand why she hates Cody, pointing out he's done nothing to her. And Gwen refuse to give them a straight answer on why she hates Cody. It's finally revealed that Gwen had some bad experiences with geeks in the past and, sadly, is taking all that resentment out on Cody. However, Gwen reached the limit of her hatred during an argument with Cody when she told him to kill himself, causing Cody to run away. Gwen was horrified with herself for saying that and admitted she mess up.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Tyler tried to gain Lindsay’s affections by impressing her with his sports and yo-yo skills, but ultimately fails too. When he learns that Lindsay’s into Cody instead, he decided to accept it because he wants her to be happy. Before his elimination, Tyler went to Cody and threatened that he will snap Cody's neck if he breaks Lindsay’s heart.
  • Jerkass to One: Gwen is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold to everyone, but a complete Jerkass to Cody.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Taking advantage of his second chance to be an overall better person than he was the first time, Cody ends up with many more friends, Chris loving him for the ratings he brings, and earned him the affections of two beautiful girls who fight over him.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Cody is the son of the head of a massively successful charity and a significant shareholder in some of the worlds biggest companies. So naturally is very well off. However his parents are always so busy that they never spend any time with him.
  • Loving a Shadow: Cody realizes, after reading Gwen's diary in a dream, that she was never the cool girl he thought she was.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Lindsay would occasionally hug Cody and push his head into her deep cleavage, motor boating him. Initially she's doing it out of naiveté. Later on however she's doing it because she knows he likes it, and she likes doing it to him because she is in love with him.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Gwen was hit on a lot by perverted geeks in the past, and she's taking all her resentment out on Cody, who was nothing but nice to her.
  • Moral Myopia: One of the reasons Gwen can't stand Cody is because he goes against every preconceived idea she has about geeks, being a Nice Guy who is also surprisingly good at physical challenges. As Cody points out, Gwen is an Informed Loner, who despite claiming to be a dark, lonely girl, still becomes close to Trent and Leshawna.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: The events of this story is Cody's chance to turn his life around.
  • Mythology Gag: There are instances where Cody mentions some TD facet and fanwork.
    • When Cody was preparing himself the day before the paintball challenge, he makes references to two TD crossover fics starring him: Randompandattack’s The Canadian at Monster High, and it’s sequel The Canadian at Ever After High.
    • When Cody lashed out at Gwen after she accused her of stealing her diary, he references Alejandro from Total Drama World, a Latin contestant who uses his charms, acting and persuasion to get what he wants. However, he doesn’t say his name.
  • Nice Guy: Cody decided to do some good acts for several campers.
    • When Courtney had her eye swollen, Cody offered her a bottle of eye drops he packed for himself.
    • Cody offered Lindsay to assist her in remembering the names of every camper in Camp Wawanakwa.
    • During the Boney Island challenge, Cody hooks Trent up with Gwen like the first time around, the same way like the first time.
    • When Cody ran into Beth in the paintball challenge, he helps her realize that Heather isn’t to be trusted and she was just using Beth for her own plans. He comes down the Dock of Shame to say goodbye to her after she's eliminated.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Cody shocks everyone else and hits Gwen's Berserk Button by calling her New Heather.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Whenever Cody's not his usual Nice Guy self.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Bridgette and Lindsay, the two nicest girls on the island, gets into a fight over Cody. They go as far as insulting each other, but are stopped. They instantly regret what they've done.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Gwen telling Cody to kill himself.
  • Parental Issues: Cody doesn’t have a good relationship with his parents, mainly because he barely even has a relationship with them at all.
  • Parental Neglect: Cody’s parents almost always neglects him.
    • Cody told Bridgette that he's the son of rich parents. His mother is the founder and President of one of the biggest Charity Organizations on Earth, and his father is a stockholder of many flourishing electronic companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Sony, and Dell.
  • Peggy Sue: The story's basic premise, with Cody being the one who travels back in time and tries to Set Right What Once Went Wrong.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Chris does not want Cody badly injured or eliminated, as Cody is making the shows ratings skyrocket. Doing anything to him would cause them to plummet.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • In the eleventh chapter of TDCR, Gwen's diary was opened in the mess hall and Chris read it out loud to the everybody. However, he read some false info that Gwen never wrote, which said how Trent was being a bother to her. After Trent left feeling upset, Gwen turned to Cody and accused him of stealing and writing in her diary. She believes that Cody's out to grab the female campers affections for himself including hers and that he wrote in her diary in an attempt to make her feel sad so he would comfort her to get into her pants. Cody doesn't take it so well and lashes at her for accusing him and for judging him to be something which he wasn't.
    • In Chapter 22, Cody lashes out at Gwen again when she reveals the reason she doesn't like him, which utterly fails to impress anyone.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Cody gives an overdue one to Gwen in chapter 22.
  • The Reveal: Chapter 22 reveals that Gwen hates Cody because of her many bad previous experiences with geeks.
  • Rigged Contest: There are hints that suggest that something is happening in the background of the show to give certain contestants an advantage. There have been unexplained eliminations, with some contestants been eliminated despite all signs showing that someone else received more votes. It's also implied from Chris talking about how some contestants are particularly hard to deal with.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Gwen ignores the good Cody has done for her and the team, because of her hatred of geeks.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Cody has knowledge of what will happen on Total Drama Island and the future seasons, and he wishes to rewrite the wrongs.
    • The biggest example would be him getting mauled by a bear, so he prepares himself to get out of harm's way.
    • Beth wasn’t aware that the artifacts from Boney Island are cursed. Cody tells Beth to not pick anything up from the island because she’d become cursed.
    • However, Cody himself has admitted to himself that he can't make as many changes as he would like because, from his point of view, it had been years since all this happened, so he doesn't have a perfect memory of all the events, not to mention that those same events keep changing constantly because of his actions.
  • Shipper on Deck: Geoff supports the fact that Cody has two girls crushing on him (one of which being Bridgette).
  • Ship Tease: Cody, with Lindsay, Bridgette, and Courtney.
    • Lindsay immediately becomes attracted to Cody after he jumps off the cliff first. Her affections for Cody grow when he offers to assist her in remembering the names of every camper. In the middle of a night, when Cody wakes up from his first nightmare, Lindsay wakes up too because of Cody and finds him. They have a moment together and they become closer after that. They even hug before going back to bed. There would be many times when Lindsay would give Cody her own hugs. However, in doing so, she puts her crush's head on her chest, motorboating him. The night after the talent competition, Cody finds Lindsay talking in her sleep about how she wants him to perform sexual acts on her.
    • Bridgette occasionally chats with Cody and hugs him. They have a deep conversation during the Awake-a-thon and Bridgette reveals her love life was pretty difficult after breaking up with three boys already. During her talent performance, she begins to vomit and slips on her own vomit warranting Cody to break her fall. He gives her a massage later and tells her his own story about vomiting on-stage. Bridgette also has a heart to heart with Cody when she learns of his attempted suicide and pleads him to never try that again. She also interrogates Courtney on what her deal is with Cody while also defending him.
    • Courtney had some awkward moments when he was with Cody. She even feels guilty after Cody helped cure her swollen eye. She also has her own heart to heart with Cody throughout most of the Awake-a-thon. Cody also had a dream of how Courtney was cuddling him on a beach while wearing a skimpy bikini, but was actually cuddling with Courtney and Bridgette in his sleep. After Courtney learned that Cody attempted suicide, she begins to rethink her actions and original thoughts on Cody.
    • Keeping one from canon, Beth still gives Cody a kiss on the cheek in the paintball episode after the elimination ceremony is over. This time however, it's Beth who's walking the Dock of Shame when Cody comes over to bid her farewell. Both are shown to rather enjoy it, and Beth says she's happy to have gotten to known Cody during her stay on the show.
  • Ship Sinking: In the original canon series, Lindsay hooks up and dates Tyler. But in TDCR, Lindsay doesn't develop an affections for Tyler. Instead, she wants to have a relationship with Cody.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Bridgette, Courtney, and Lindsay gain a interest in Cody because of the kindness he shows them.
  • Shout-Out: Certain shout-outs and references are made to other TD fanworks throughout the story.
    • Since this story was inspired by PurpleBandit3000’s Total Drama Redemption, a lot of shout-out to TDR would be the NoahxIzzy moments in the story. For example, Noah voted Owen out after the talent contest to keep Cody safe. Cody thinks that Noah voted Owen out because he wants to win Izzy’s affections for himself, and he teases Noah about it. Some of the dialogue and plot points are almost word-for-word to what happened in TDR.
    • The story also gives a shout out to Randompandattack’s The Canadian at Monster High, and the sequel The Canadian at Ever After High.
    • In chapter 20, when Cody asks Chris why Beth was eliminated and why he sent Scuba Bear after him, Cody mentions Despair Island.
    • A few shout-outs are made to A Codette World Tour as well. Cody's discussion with Bridgette about some of her previous boyfriends mentions names and reasons for breakup directly taken from that fic. Cody also later laments how Owen could have proven his culinary skills in the cooking challenge because as an adult he became a successful restauranteur with DJ's help, which is what happened in the epilogue of A Codette World Tour.
  • Sweet Tooth: Like canon, Cody is into sweets. He was really fascinated with the food at the Tucke Shop.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Events early on in the story stick to the original canon before diverging off into their own thing.
    • Heather gets Lindsay and Beth to ally with her just like in the original canon.
    • The first two eliminations remain the same. Ezekiel gets voted off for his sexist comments and Eva gets eliminated for her temper.
    • Cody hooks Trent and Gwen up the same way as in the canon.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Duncan stated that he will never kill a person, even if somebody asked him to.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Cody was a badass a few times.
    • In the talent contest, Cody showed off his talent by playing some electrical tunes on his keyboard. He still lost the tiebreaker to Tyler's yo-yo act; however, it was mostly because of Chef not liking Cody's musical genre.
    • In the paintball challenge, Cody faces off against Scuba Bear from Pahkitew Island. He was on the losing end for a bit until he drove a spear right through his throat blowing Scuba Bear’s head off.
  • Suicide Dare: Gwen, after snapping at Cody, tells him to just go kill himself.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After hearing from Bridgette about Cody’s attempted suicide, Courtney becomes a kinder, more supportive teammate in Phobia Factor.
    • When it was DJ’s turn, Courtney encouraged DJ to face his fear for his own good, which resulted in his success.
    • Courtney assured Duncan that he’s not gonna realize that he hugged the Celine Dion standee afterwards.
    • Courtney does it a third time with Tyler saying that he can win this for the team.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Despite Cody hooking her with Trent, and Gwen promising to give Cody a chance, Gwen still hates and distress him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Cody rants at his teammates, specially Gwen, in Chapter 22.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Cody has no trouble getting into a physical confrontation with Gwen when he finds out about her true feelings for everybody. In his defense, Gwen hit him first, and the fight was very even, both ending equally injured in the end.
  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Gwen is convinced that Cody is pretending to be a vulnerable, troubled Nice Guy in order to trick and seduce girls. Subverted because Cody's not faking anything.
  • You Are What You Hate: Once he finally snaps at Gwen, Cody tells her that she's no different from Heather. That gets her angry enough to punch Cody, starting a very serious fight, but after that, and once Gwen tells Cody to kill himself, she admits he was right.
  • You Just Told Me: Cody realizes after reading Gwen's diary in a dream note  that he can't say he read her diary, let alone in a dream without seeming like a jerk or insane. So he has to trick Gwen into admitting to what he is saying she wrote in her diary is true, then framing it as this trope.
