It was finally over. The Serial Killer named Yoshikage Kira is dead, and now the heroes can recover in peace. But for Kawajiri Hayato, his quest to recover from both his trauma and to help his mother has only just begun.

Things Are Gonna Get Easier is a Continuation fic for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. It follows Hayato as he pushes through life after both his father's death and the death of his murderer. It finished on April 15, 2022.

Warning, Late Arrival Spoilers for Diamond is Unbreakable will be left unmarked.

Things Are Gonna Get contains the following examples

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Hayato surprises even himself when he laughs after finding out that Joseph Joestar couldn't pinpoint Yoshikage Kira's location because he was too subconsciously focused on how angry his wife was after finding out about his extramarital affair.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Shizuka, the name of the invisible baby that Joseph found, was originally the name that Tomoko would have picked if her son Josuke was born a girl.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Hayato lampshades to Joseph that bringing Shizuka back with him to New York and to his wife Suzi Q, who's already mad at him for cheating on her sixteen years ago, is going to cause further suspicion. Joseph admits that he didn't consider that, but he figures his wife will happily take in Shizuka after he explains her situation.
  • Everybody Has Standards: Okuyasu tells Hayato that while the Morioh group has a tendency to befriend many of their former enemies, naming himself and the newly adopted Stray Cat as examples, they don't extend that courtesy to the more ruthless enemies like Angelo and Akira Otoshi. He also adds they were never planning on befriending Kira, making sure he was arrested at the least and potentially using Heaven's Door to suppress his murderous urges if need be.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Hayato is insistent on making sure that his mother Shinobu never finds out that her husband's "new leaf" was because he was murdered and had his identity stolen by a serial killer. The Speedwagon Foundation helped Hayato provide her with a cover story for Kosaku's death, saying that he was discovered dead in a Tokyo alleyway and likely killed by either the Yakuza or a loan shark.
  • Loophole Abuse: Josuke Higashikata's Stand Crazy Diamond, as in canon, can heal anything he touches except himself, which is a problem following his climactic fight with Kira and the resulting injuries that require major surgery. However, he figures out that while he can't heal himself, he can fix the stitches if he unintentionally tears them as they aren't a part of his physical body. He does admit to Okuyasu and Hayato that doing so really hurts, but it still works.
  • Obliviously Evil: Hayato doesn't actually realize how creepy and invasive it is to install video cameras in his parents' room, which he did prior to suspecting his father was an imposter, until the Morioh group explain to him why it's wrong.
  • Power Incontinence: Joseph's old age has weakened his control over Hermit Purple, bringing up how his attempt to check up on his newly revealed son led him to discover Angelo. He also reveals that when trying to find Kira after he disguised himself, his Stand was focused on what Joseph felt was the most dangerous threat, namely his wife after she discovered his past affair.
  • Smart Ball: Okuyasu, of all people, is the one to figure out that the Kawajiri family will be having financial trouble now that their primary breadwinner Kosaku is gone, and brings up the idea of having the Speedwagon Foundation confirm Kosaku's death so they can use his life insurance to push through rent and other necessities.
  • Stacy's Mom: In typical Okuyasu fashion, when he meets Hayato's mom Shinobu for the first time, he blurts out loud how good-looking she is. Notably, Shinobu does entertain the idea, particularly after finding out that he's close friends with Hayato and that he's a Kindhearted Cat Lover, though she shuts it down given that she's a grown woman and he's still a high schooler.
  • Trauma Button:
    • In the fist chapter Hayato has a panic attack when Rohan uses Heaven's Door to try to read him like a book, as it reminds him of the Bites the Dust time loop where Rohan attempted to read him and got killed by Kira Yoshikage's sub-Stand in the process.
    • This gets Discussed among the guys in chapter 3, where after the near-death experiences dealing with Kira, they try to figure out if they can ever listen to Queen again thanks to the Musical Theme Naming of Kira's Stand Killer Queen and his subabilities, namely the album Sheer Heart Attack and the song Another One Bites the Dust. Joseph brings up that his fight against the Pillar Man also had mixed results of this since many bands and singers share the same name from figures in his past: he has issues listening to Carsnote , Wham!note , and Led Zeppelinnote  after they debuted, but he's perfectly fine listening to AC/DCnote  and Santananote .
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: The Morioh group is very unsettled by the discovery that Hayato had been setting up video cameras in his parents' room before suspecting that his father was an imposter. That said, they are patient enough to explain and make him realize how disturbing and invasive this behavior is, and he decides to remove the cameras before his mom finds out.
