Ladybug <3 Marinette
Pass it on.
There's Something About Marinette is Miraculous Ladybug fanfic by ThoughtWarfare that can best be summarized as Poor Communication Kills the story.

The story is several years old so beware of unmarked spoilers!

There's Something About Marinette contains examples of:

  • Beware the Silly Ones: Akumatized Marinette, or Heart Baker, has her appearance internally mocked by several people and she has many funny moments including Chloe telling her she is trying too hard. She also defeats Cat Noir, enslaves many people, attempts to murder and dismember Chloe over a misunderstanding, and almost imprisoned Gabriel Agreste permanently.
  • Briar Patching: Heart Baker tries to get Nathaniel to run to a specific location by stating she thinks he could get to it if he tried to run, but he is too scared to move.
  • …But He Sounds Handsome: Adrien's misunderstanding stems from Ladybug complimenting Marinette and blushing about it.
  • Cassandra Truth: At the end of the story, Alya refuses to believe Chloe's claims that she helped defeat Heart Baker. While Chloe, being Chloe, is very much playing up the magnitude of her role, she really was instrumental in defeating the villain.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Heart Baker has both a love and baking motif and a horror motif. Near the end, Heart Baker justifies it by revealing how she finds love scary.
[Love is] terrifying! Every time I tried to tell Adrien how I felt about him, it was like I was going to die! And when I came over to talk to you about knowing my secret identity, you were wearing that robe and slipping off the chairs and kissing me and I was practically shaking! Nothing I can do is as scary as love!
  • Comically Missing the Point: Most of the conflict and comedy in the story comes from characters misinterpreting what is happening.
  • Dude Magnet: Heart Baker has so many men to feed off of thanks to Marinette's many admirers.
  • Horror Hunger: Heart Baker eats the hearts of men both literally and metaphorically by reaching into their chests and pulling out a pastry that represents their feelings for her.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: This is the driving force behind Heart Baker. She feeds off the love of others by removing their hearts in the form of pastries.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Adrien realizes (after misinterpreting a prompt from Plagg) he has to give up on Ladybug and accept that she (seemingly) loves someone else.
  • Irony: Heart Baker is an Akuma whose powers rely on her victims being attracted to her, but she is missing a large heart-shaped chunk of her face. A fact that Chloe lampshades as very unattractive.
  • Logical Weakness: Heart Baker feeds off of the love her victims feel for her. As such, she must hunt down boys she knows to find her attractive, and someone who doesn't care about her is immune.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Heart Baker is noted to have too many sharp teeth in her mouth.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The crux of the story is the inability of the characters to understand each other.
  • Stealth Pun: Heart Baker is a villain who eats pastries symbolizing the love her victims feel for her, and she cannot get enough to satisfy her. She is literally love hungry.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When Gabriel pops out of Marinette's nostril after Heart Baker's defeat, Cat Noir makes sure to include "who I am not at all related to" in his shocked exclamation.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: When Cat Noir reassures Gabriel that Chloebug (who's turning out to be a bit clumsy with her yo-yo) can capture the akuma and won't let it "multiply and create an army of Heart Bakers", Gabriel immediately makes an excuse to retreat to his lair and make the akuma stay still for her.
