The Will of D
is a One Piece Peggy Sue Fan Fiction written by The Animaniac Dude.
The Straw Hats make it to Raftel, but at a great cost. Finding nothing but an empty room where the greatest treasure of all is supposed to be, and his entire crew fallen, Luffy is saved at the last moment by a certain someone to whom reports of his death were greatly exaggerated.
The Rubber Man is given another chance to become the pirate king, taken right back to the beginning, to save the world from its enemies, both the wicked pirates and its corrupt government.
The Will of D was the first major One Piece Peggy Sue Fan Fic, and every other story with a similar premise was partially inspired by this story and its Spiritual Successor, Once Again.
This fanfiction provides examples of:
- Acceptable Breaks from Canon: Even without looking at the publish date, one can easily tell that this fic was published long before the current events of the manga. Aside from the conspicuous lack of haki and any references to the Time Skip, there's also the fact that that there is no mention of Ace's death (since he didn't die until circa 2009-2010) or that he's Roger's son, something that the Roger in this story would've obviously been aware of.
- Clueless Chick-Magnet: Luffy literally has to have it spelled out that Nami is in love with him. His reaction to the realisation is...less than ecstatic.
- Dead Fic: It hasn't been updated since December of 2011, and the author has been silent since then as well.
- Enemy Mine: Kuro, Gin, Arlong and the fishman pirates, and Alvida all become Strawhats. Of course, Luffy required a little persuasion to let Arlong on but they soon warmed up.
- I Have Many Names: Luffy, upon gaining the sovereignty of the sea, says this to identify himself as rightful ruler.Luffy: "I have many names, and I have no name for they all drift away with the currents."
- Ki Manipulation: An aversion, and a justified one at that. The story was published long before haki was established, and long before the Time Skip. Otherwise, Luffy wouldn't need Roger to cancel out Smoker's devil fruit powers.
- Trope Maker: The Will of D was the very first One Piece Peggy Sue Fan Fic, and for many years was the most popular of them all.
- You Didn't See That: Arlong questions whether it was legal for the merchant who just sold him Seastone to have any to sell.Merchant: "What Seastone?"
