Fanfic / The Titan's Light

Go To

The Titan's Light is an AU series of The Owl House fics, where Luz is a young Titan with a medallion disguising her as human. Somehow ending up on Earth as an infant, she was found and adopted by the Nocedas, only to find her way back to the Isles just like in canon...

  • AB Negative:
    • While witches and Biped demons can give blood to each other (according to blood type), they cannot do the same for Bug and Beast demons, and the same is true for the other categories, save for cases like first-generation Bipeds that can receive blood from either parent’s species, or Insectile demons, which count as both Bug and Biped demons and can use donations from both. Luz and King, as Titans, can not only donate blood without needing to worry about blood-types, they can donate regardless of species, which Liana calls an "Omni-donor". Apparently there are a few others, but the only one we hear about are the shapeshifting Basilisks.
    • While Omni-donors can donate blood to anyone, they can only receive blood from another member of their own species, or from another Omni-donor species.
  • Ability Mixing: Besides glyph combos, Luz manages to combine her Fire Glyph with her Titan Super-Scream during her fight with Warden Wrath.
  • Adaptational Badass: Being a Titan, Luz is much more powerful than she was in canon upon first coming to the Isles. She already has her four glyphs, Super-Scream, and is even starting to figure out glyph combos.
    • She later discovers that she can also cast spells via spell circles, and use the Titan's glyphs in a combo with her own, allowing them to provide the power while her glyphs provide direction.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • The various Coven heads, save Terra and Scooter Crane, are all seen at the Covention in Chapter 4. Raine, Derwin, Amber, Viney, Jerbo, Barcus, and Steve also make appearances.
    • The Abomatons, Emira, Edric, Odalia, and Alador all appear in this AU's take on "Hooty's Moving Hassle"; the Abomatons, Odalia, and Alador nearly a full season before their canonical debut, and Emira and Edric one episode before their canonical debut.
      • King also finds the Isles Plant Glyph in the same chapter.
    • Malphas the Master Librarian first appears in this AU's take on "Lost in Language", a whole season before his canonical debut.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Luz in this AU is a Titan, whereas in canon, she was a human who managed to get a Titan hybrid form briefly.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Being the same species as Luz leads King to warm up to her even quicker than in canon and actively try to spend more time with her. He starts thinking of her as his sister to himself as early as the third chapter, equivalent to "The Intruder", and Luz refers to him as her little brother out loud the very next chapter.
  • Art Initiates Life: As in canon, the Wailing Star can make items and individuals from books in the library appear when the books are opened, with the added wrinkle that if the books stay open until the Star passes, whatever is manifested now exists permanently.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: An indirect example. According to the rules of the Coven system, using Healing magic on non-sapient Beast demons is considered mixing magic despite the fact that it uses no actual Beast-Keeping magic (though Eberwolf ignores that rule when no one who would tell otherwise is around). Author's notes confirm that Belos hates the wildlife of the Demon Realm as much as he does the witches, so he doesn't want them to have magical healing so they suffer more.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Since witches with rounded ears are occasionally born, and show up in the Clawthorne family tree from time to time (as it's a sign of human ancestry), Lilith assumes that Luz is Eda's biological daughter after her duel with Amity.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: In the Azura book, the Gildersnake was created by an evil witch, but they lost control of it and got eaten by their own creation.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite not having her phone on her at the time, Luz still finds the Titan's Light Glyph and uses it to defeat the Owl Beast, since she used up her own magic earlier.
  • Magic Eater: The Gildersnake gets more powerful the more magical beings that it eats.
  • Mama Bear: Eda starts to develop maternal feelings for King and Luz more obviously earlier than in canon, and even the Owl Beast gets in on it, referring to King as its "chick" when Tibbles briefly captures him. The head Demon Hunter is lucky that he just gets force-fed an amnesia-inducing potion instead of being ripped to shreds after he hits Luz with a lightning spell twice so he could capture and sell her.
  • No Biological Sex: Titans are naturally sexless, which is quite the shock for Luz when she finds out since her human disguise looked fully female, though it doesn't bother her for long as she still fully identifies as female, King, of course, doesn't care, quickly declaring himself "both King and Queen, best of both things", though of course he still uses he/him pronouns.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Chapter 6 confirms that Luz and King are biological siblings in this AU.
  • Skewed Priorities: Even though there's a horde of Treants causing chaos in the town, and Eda is actually defending people from them, a Lead Scout directs his subordinates to try and capture Eda, which isn't unnoticed by the civilians Eda is protecting, and even his Scouts aren't exactly comfortable with the orders.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: The Gildersnake from the Azura books gets released by the Wailing Star, and proves to be a villain through-and-through.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: In this AU Luz, being a Titan, is not biologically related to Camila and Manny.
  • Willfully Weak: Luz is significantly holding back in her duel with Amity, both because she's limiting herself to her spell circle magic instead of her glyphs to avoid unwanted attention from the Emperor's Coven, and because she doesn't want to actually hurt Amity. She still defeats Amity easily, even with Amity's unwitting Power Glyph boost.
