Fanfic / The Pines And The Boiling Isles

Go To

The Pines and the Boiling Isles is a crossover series between The Owl House and Gravity Falls, and some bits from Amphibia. The story starts out when Amity travels to Gravity Falls to get some materials for a scrapbook for her and Luz's first anniversary at Mabel's craft store, which is apparently considered the best in the United States. This puts the Pines family on the trail of the Boiling Isles, and they decide to travel to Gravesfield to investigate.

  • Dramatic Irony: A lot of the fun in reading the stories in this AU is that the readers know what's going on, but that the characters are totally in the dark, like Stan and Eda/"Marilyn" being exes.
  • Gaydar: When Amity comes to Mabel's shop for scrapbooking supplies, Mabel is able to tell that Amity has a girlfriend without Amity needing to say it.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Dipper sees a lot of similarities to himself in Hunter.
    • Luz notes that she can see a number of similarities to Amity in Pacifica.
  • One Degree of Separation: The story goes with the idea that Stan was married to Eda/"Marilyn" briefly, but while Stan mentions this after Amity visits Mabel's store, neither side has any idea that Luz and company are connected to Eda, or that Stan is Mabel's great uncle.
  • Reality Bleed: Given that this takes place shortly after the Frog-Vasion where a robotic army descended on a major city, the Pines and company are rather concerned that too many extra-dimension breaches could cause another Weirdmageddon-level even, which is part of why they decide to investigate Gravesfield.
  • Wrong Context Magic: From the experience of the Pines family, even people from the far future or aliens with advanced hyperspace technology have trouble maintaining stable portals to other dimensions, so the magical portal door, which is stable, is unlike anything they've ever encountered before.
