The Owl Cottage is a crossover story between The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Owl House, which reimagines characters from the latter universe as existing in the former, with Luz trying to navigate the chaos of Skyrim and learn magic amidst all the chaos.

  • Adaptational Species Change: To better fit in with the setting some of the characters have their species changed. For instance King/Martin goes from a baby Titan to a human.
  • Anti-Magic: Luz's birthsign means that she can absorb magicka from outside spells to a degree.
  • Blessed with Suck:
    • Luz's Atronach birthsign means that she can absorb magicka from spells to a degree, but not only does this make her actually learning to cast spells of her own significantly harder since she can't really use her own magicka to do it, but the passwall spell the College of Winterhold uses won't stick to her, meaning she'll need an enchanted item to do so much as move around in the facility. The spells that she absorbs include healing spells too, so if she's ever injured she has to rely on potions.
    • Amity in this story was born under the Apprentice, which can give an increased ability to channel magicka, but she has trouble controlling her power as a result, and if she uses too much Destruction magic, even with a limiting pendant her mother had made, she can still hurt herself. Hence why she focuses mainly on summoning.
  • Decomposite Character: Luz is the Prisoner of Helgen in this story, but Martin (the equivalent of King) is the Dragonborn.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Why is Luz being executed at the start of the story? She ran across Ulfric and his men while travelling and asked to share their fire, and when the soldiers attacked and arrested them she pushed their leader into the mud.
  • Doorstep Baby: Martin was left on Eda's doorstep as a toddler for an unknown reason.
  • Forgot About Her Powers: Until Luz asks, Amity completely forgets that she knows a wayfinding spell.
  • Happily Adopted: Martin was taken in by Eda at around three, and knows it, but while he has some questions about where he came from he still clearly loves her as a mother.
  • Meaningful Name: It's noted that Martin's name comes from two of the previous emperors, and that there's probably a reason for it. Given that the imperial family was historically Dragonborn, and that he is Dragonborn, it's probably not a coincidence.
  • Not Quite Dead: When Eda sees Luz in the snow after Alduin's attack, she initially assumes that the girl is dead, and is shocked when she turns out to be still alive.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: After Chapter 10 the trio splits up, Eda and Martin heading to the Greybeards to deal with Martin being Dragonborn while Luz goes to Winterhold to try and learn magic.
