Fanfic / The Monkey D. Haru Series

Go To

Harry Potter has been missing for years with little known about his whereabouts. When Dumbledore sends Fawkes to find him a few days before what is supposed to be his first year at Hogwarts, he discovers that Harry was sent to another dimension and adopted by the Pirate King and his wife. With his fellow pirate kids, he takes Hogwarts by storm, ensuring that the wizarding world will never be the same again.

Another story by Emma Iveli. The Monkey D. Haru series is the standard "Harry Potter is raised by someone else and gains their personality" story. So far the series is up to Goblet of Fire.

Tropes

  • Abhorrent Admirer: After seeing Perona's Negative Hollows and their potential for chaos, Peeves promptly falls in love with her. Perona rejects him, because he isn't "cute".
    • Also Lockhart to Marguerite, all of his attempts fail spectacularly.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Franky. Whenever Tom points this out, Franky begins to cry into his wife's arms and wail about how his son doesn't love him.
  • But I Can't Be Pregnant!: Nico Tom is considered a miracle baby thanks to the fact his father went through some pretty nasty things in his life.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Severus Snape, whose life has been pure hell ever since the Straw Hats arrived at Hogwarts.
    • Draco Malfoy, who is basically Hina's personal Chew Toy.
  • Cutting the Knot: Haru's Portal-Portal powers makes things significantly easier for the protagonists. They manage to keep Pettigrew from escaping like he did in canon by simply portaling out Snape and the transforming Lupin. They make things so easy for him in fact that Dumbledore bans him from using them during the Triwizard Tournament.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Nico Tom is named after his father's Parental Substitute. Deliberately averted with Haru, who Luffy was originally going to name after Ace, but decided not to.
  • Death by Adaptation: Lockhart, Hancock turns him to stone and then smashes him after he reveals his true colors.
  • Didn't Think This Through: During his confrontation with Haru in the graveyard, Voldemort eats a devil fruit to try and level the playing field with Haru's Portal-Portal powers. Haru immediately points out the stupidity of his decision, noting that Voldemort has no idea what kind of power he will get with that devil fruit and that even if he did, it will take months if not years to properly master his new abilities. He's immediately proven right when it's revealed that Voldemort ate a Zoan, which is the type of devil fruit least suited to his fighting style.
  • Everyone Can See It: Instead of an unrequited crush on Cho Chang, Haru instead notices Ginny's crush on him early on and develops feelings for her earlier than in canon. Their attraction to each other quickly becomes an Open Secret.
  • Friends with Benefits: What Sirius and Marguerite have become. Franky and Robin were this but later fell in love.
  • Green Thumb: Hina ate the Vine Vine Fruit which lets her grow vines anywhere.
    • Later Usopp teaches Neville how to use Pop Greens, and thanks to Neville's affinity with plants everyone is freaked out at the potential destruction he could cause.
  • Happily Adopted: Haru knows he's not Luffy and Hancock's biological son, but doesn't care.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: After Crookshanks and Marie's (Hina's Kuja snake) constant attacks on Scabbers, everyone decides to get Chopper to translate to find out what's going on. While we don't hear the whole conversation (as it's said in animal language) he does confess to being an Animagus when neither animal even said anything about it.
  • In-Series Nickname: Hinagiku is more often than not referred to as Hina by both characters and narration.
  • Kid Fic: For the Straw Hats, in addition to Haru, there's Monkey D. Hinagiku (Luffy and Hancock's biological daughter), Nico Tom (Robin and Franky's son), Maya and Yosopp (Usopp and Kaya's kids) and Nojiko and Kaien (Sanji and Nami's twins).
  • Mama Bear: Hancock. When Lockhart threatens to erase their memories and leave Ginny to die, she kills him.
  • Naked People Are Funny:
    • Chapter 1 of Chamber of Secrets, Shanks is naked after a night of drinking.
    • In Prisoner of Azkaban, Haru makes a bet with Malfoy that if Malfoy passes Hagrid's class he'll go around naked, Malfoy wins the bet, and Ron and Hermione see more of their friend than they ever wanted to.
  • Noodle Incident: A lot of Haru's previous adventures dealing with his portal powers are treated like this, one involving another dimension and another involving altering history.
  • Oblivious to Love: Spectacularly averted. Thanks to all the trials and tribulations Hancock went through to get Luffy to notice her feelings, she goes through great lengths to ensure that Haru is very much unlike his adoptive father in that aspect.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, there's Nico Tom (Franky and Robin's son), Tom from the Three Broomsticks and Tom Riddle (AKA Voldemort).
  • Only Sane Man: Despite being insane in their own ways, the Straw Hats are more logical than most wizards. They deftly point out that Sirius is far more trustworthy than Pettigrew just by looking at their Animagus forms: a dog (known for their loyalty) vs a rat (untrustworthy and cowardly), something Remus Lupin, the last of the Marauders (and the smartest, no less) failed to notice for over a decade.
  • Portal Cut: How Haru uses his power offensively.
  • Rage Quit: Rita's Quick Quotes Quill promptly "breaks" like this after Haru's life proves to be more outlandish than anything it or Rita could ever hope to come up with.
  • The Rival:
    • Draco and Haru, per canon.
    • Hina manages to find her own rival in Astoria Greengrass (in canon, the future Mrs. Draco Malfoy).
  • Rubber Man: Luffy is Haru's adopted father.
  • Skewed Priorities: During his deadly confrontation with the memory from Tom Riddle's diary, Haru is extremely unimpressed to learn that Voldemort got his name from an anagram of his birth name and begins openly wondering whether or not to continue calling him "Moldy Shorts" or start calling him "Lord Anagram".
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Thanks to his portal powers, Haru manages to save Cedric Diggory from being killed.
  • Stable Time Loop: The reason why everyone in the wizarding world knows Harry is alive is because Haru sent a letter and picture of himself back in time.
  • Stunned Silence: The entire audience during the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament, after Haru uses Haki and punches out a dragon to tame it. As Ron puts it, Haru "broke the Wizarding World".
  • Taken for Granite: As Boa Hancock is Haru's adopted mother, this is bound to happen. This is also how she kills Lockhart, by doing this then smashing him.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Harry's devil Fruit Power allows him to do this.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Since Scabbers was Percy's pet before he became Ron's, Percy is even angrier than Ron was when he learns that he was really Peter Pettigrew and that he framed an innocent man for his own crimes. When Pettigrew manages to escape Azkaban, Percy promptly swears vengeance.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Zoro and Sanji. Their idea of celebrating when one of them has been left incapacitated for a long time and recovers is to have an epic showdown using their strongest attacks.
  • Voluntary Shape Shifting:
    • Chopper of course, but in Prisoner of Azkaban, Ron eats the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Jack Russell Terrier.
    • In Goblet of Fire, Voldemort ends up eating the Snake-Snake Fruit, Model: Black Mamba.
