The Marriage Stone is a novel length fanfic written on Fanfiction.net by Josephine Darcy

To avoid the machinations of the Ministry, Harry must marry a reluctant Severus Snape. But marriage to Snape is only the beginning of Harry's problems. Voldemort has returned, and before too long Harry's marriage may determine the world's fate.

The Marriage Stone provided examples of:

  • Aroused by Their Voice:
    • Snape is more than aware that Harry is particularly fond of his voice, and uses it to his advantage.
    • Snape finds it very appealing when Harry speaks in Parseltongue.
  • Beast and Beauty: Although it appears Snape is meant to be the Beast of the relationship, Harry is more plain than actually handsome.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Snape's entire purpose in this arranged marriage is to protect Harry from the Ministry's grasp, and he does in fact come to Harry's rescue on more than one occasion.
  • Celebrity Is Overrated: Much like the source material, Harry still can't understand why people are so envious of his fame when it brings him nothing but trouble.
  • Celibate Hero: Harry, for the most part, shows no interest in either gender, can't seem to notice when someone is flirting or throwing a pass at him, and completely blind to his own growing attraction towards Snape.
  • Clear Their Name: Harry does this for Sirius, and to some extent for Snape to his own brothers (although they still think little of him regardless.).
  • Declaration of Protection: Because of his honor, despite being forced into an unwanted marriage, Snape vows that Harry will want for nothing. As time goes by and Snape develops more romantic feelings for the boy, and as the war grows closer, he vows to protect Harry at all costs.
  • Designer Babies: Julius Snape is the only attractive Snape sibling, due to an experiment conducted by their mother to make the perfect child.
  • Devoted to You: Harry has this affect on most people in regards to his magical aura. Snape, the Vikings, and even Lucius seem drawn to it (Lucius even slept with a woman (he's straight) with an athletic body, short black hair and green eyes after feeling Harry's magic himself).
  • Distressed Dude: For as much trouble as Harry gets himself into, he usually gets out of it by himself just fine.
  • Divorce Requires Death: Most high ranking officials would rather just assassinate Snape all together, in order to gain Harry's hand in marriage.
  • Door Stopper: 77 chapters, 381,147 words and still not complete.
  • Duel to the Death: Several political parties have assigned some of the best duellists in the world to challenge Snape in a wizard duel, and killed, so that Harry is made eligible for marriage once again.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Snape's father was a Death Eater and his mother poisoned herself.
  • Extreme Doormat: Much like the film version, Harry loses a lot of his snark from the original books
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lucius is persuaded to the good side by Harry's offer.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: Lord Voldemort is not seen for a good majority of the story and when he and Harry are face to face, his hood is drawn up so neither Harry nor the reader can see his face.
  • Hot Teacher: Snape grew in popularity with the female students after the Daily Prophet snapped a photo of him in his leather armour.
  • I Am Not My Father: Snape became a Death Eater because of his father and cannot escape the false claim against him.
  • It Runs in the Family: Snape's looks are shared amongst (nearly) all of his brothers.
  • Old Man Marrying a Child: To the muggle raised Harry and Hermione, it does seem to fall into squick territory, but to a witch/wizard's point of view, Harry is of legal age and due to their longer life span, a 23 year age gap between wizards is not that big of a deal.
  • Red String of Fate: Snape and Harry are literally soulmates
  • Slash Fic: Three of the main couples in are all men, Harry/Snape, Sirius/Remus, and Draco/Charlie
  • Surprise Pregnancy: Molly Weasley reveals she and Arthur are pregnant with their eighth child.
  • Tsundere: Snape eventually learns to open up to Harry.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Snape, Sirius and Remus, leading a rescue operation to "save" Harry from the Vikings.
  • Villainous Crush: Julius pursues Harry right after they are first introduced, drawn to his power and reputation, partly because he's very aware of the affect his looks have on most people and because he's use to getting his way (but mostly because he just wants to mess with his brother's head).
  • Will They or Won't They??: Despite being the official couple of the story, Harry and Snape's relationship does not become romantic for several chapters and even by that point they are still miles away from sexual.
