The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a novelisation of the video game of the same name on FanFiction.Net. The story can be read here.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Abandon Ship: Link's parents went on a two week cruise by themselves and precisely one week in, their boat sank and became the Ghost Ship. Since only their ghosts are aboard, it can be safely assumed that several others managed to flee.
  • Adaptational Badass: Both Medli and Makar help out Link a bit more with his enemies during the temple sections of the story respectively, though it doesn’t do much. There’s also Komali going after Link during his venture into Dragon Roost Cavern and his helping to save Medli from her imprisonment.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Although it closely follows the game, the fanfic introduces some new lore, such as how Hylia turned the Zora into the Rito so they wouldn't accidentally find Hyrule early and set Ganondorf free by mistake.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Quill goes from Deadpan Snarker and a level-headed ally to a more excitable Funny Foreigner type especially during his interactions with Link.
  • Ascended Extra: Prince Komali and Makar's friend Linder accompany Link on his ventures in Dragon Roost Cavern and the Forbidden Woods respectively. Mila is also added to Link's hunt for the Ghost Ship chart as opposed to her being featured in a side quest on Windfall Island (she's after treasure to help her family out of poverty).
  • Bag of Spilling: Justified in the epilogue; the current that swept Link and Tetra back to the surface world caused Link to lose all of his inventory that he gained throughout his adventure, including the wind waker. This forces him to restock on supplies before he ventures out with the pirates.
  • Cuddle Bug: Medli mainly, though a fair amount of other characters, including Link, engage in it too, especially in the chapters following Ganon's end.
  • Disney Death: Makar is believed be dead when eaten by Kalle Demos and than exploded when the beast is killed, only to turn up alive after the fight.
  • Easily Forgiven: Link comforts the King of Red Lions despite his confessing to essentially using the boy to try and resurrect the long-gone Hyrule. Justified due to Link's growth as a person and the King aiding in the rescuing of Aryll.
  • Eaten Alive: In addition to the fight with Kalle Demos, Makar suffers this again during the Molgera fight and Link has to enter the still (barely) alive beast to save his friend from its poisonous insides…all while planting bombs to ensure the creature's demise.
  • I Shall Return: In the epilogue, Link vows to his family and friends that he'll come back someday before leaving with Tetra's crew to find a new land.
  • Manly Tears: Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule actually weeps after the fight against Ganondorf, both out of his inability to leave the past behind plus his dragging Link and Tetra into his plans.
  • Named by the Adaptation:
    • The Rito Chieftain, Komali's father, is called Matias whereas the game never gave him a proper name. Also the large pig that Link leaves with Abe's family is named Kevin.
    • Variation with Mila's father, whose last name is Bradford here, retroactively giving Mila herself a surname. Also, Maggie's father is given the surname Clarence. Neither father's given name is mentioned, however.
  • Reality Has No Subtitles: Non-TV version; most of Quill's and the other Ritos' Spanish is left untranslated. The same holds true for Laruto's French and Fado's Polish when their spirits first meet Link.
  • Running Gag: Nudge, a pirate in Tetra's crew, is often heard Singing in the Shower at inopportune times, such as during both visits to the Forsaken Fortress or when Tetra is having a heated argument with Link over the Pirate's Charm.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Link doesn’t recognize Tetra's real gender until Gonzo calls her MISS Tetra. Tetra is, needless to say, not amused.
  • Secret-Keeper: The King of Red Lions mainly keeps most of the important information on his ultimate plan to himself, brushing off Link's questions about Hyrule until after Aryll is rescued and he reveals his true form.
  • Shout-Out: The ReDead statue inside the Ghost Ship is a clear reference to the weeping angels.
  • Well, Excuse Me, Princess!: Tetra is later revealed to be Princess Zelda, making her previous arguments with Link in the first half of the story this by default.
  • You No Take Candle: The Koroks are given this way of speaking, most notably when Makar calls his new friend Link-Link. Averted with the Great Deku Tree.
