King Of Fighters New Horizon is an on-going The King of Fighters fanfic made by Cascate.

Set after the events of King Of Fighters XIII, the recently established New Horizon company has announced a new edition of the world-famous tournament, attracting both new and familiar faces far and wide.

As more and more fighters gather at the designated city, the ever-beautiful Los Angeles, it becomes clear that some darker intentions are hiding behind the limelight of KOF as usual, in what seems to be the biggest conspiracy in the history of this competition.

Alongside the main fic, the interconnected side-story King Of Underground Fighters: L.A. Dark League tells about the unofficial minor league of KOF, with much more brutal rules than the normal tournament.

General

• Ax-Crazy: Yamazaki, Xanadu and Freeman
• Big Bad Ensemble: Along with both wanting the Sacred Treasures dead, the two villain factions, the New Horizon's hosts and Ron's New Hizoku, are racing against each other to gather up chi to obtain the Dragon's Spirit Fragments, being 1-1 at the moment.
• Hate Sink: While the villains are many, there's always something about them, be it charisma, likable traits or entertainment value, that prevents them from being completely despicable. Iwao is the exception, an arrogant, volatile, emotionally immature asshole who constantly irritates or scares anyone he comes across, to the point that his own co-conspirators barely tolerate him. He becomes even worst when it's revealed he's Gato and Hotaru's father, being violently abusive to the former while blaming him for being supposedly "ungrateful" and casually disregarding the emotional turmoil of the latter. All of this on top of being a uxoricide, having murdered thier mother in gruesome fashion by smashing her head against a sink.
• Original Character: Zigzagged. The author explained how the vast majority of the OCs come from original KOF edits of the M.U.G.E.N comunity, with the only exception being Sima Jian.

King Of Fighters: New Horizon

• Canon Character All Along: Iwao, one of the hosts of New Horizon, is actually Hotaru and Gato's father, who appeared only in the latter's ending of Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: Duo Lon thrashed poor Kasumi so hard the girl broke down crying after the fight.
• Even Evil Has Standards: Billy and Yamazaki may be hardened criminals, but even they find Gato's treatment of Hotaru way too harsh.
• Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Kyo doesn't believe that the century-old curse of the Yagami bloodline is a good reason for Iori to treat everyone around him like shit, outright saying that he has No Sympathy for him.
• Hypocrite: Iwao lectures Botan about how respect is something no one is entitled to. This coming from a massive Jerkass who thinks his wants and needs matter more than those of others.
• Jerkass Iori, Gato and Eiji as expected, yet Iwao still manages to beat them all in sheer douchebaggery by a countrymile.
• Join or Die: You either accept to enter the ranks of the New Hizoku willingly or you get killed on the spot. Lampshaded by Chat who tells Iori point-blank that he has no choice in the matter.
• Nice Mean And In Between: Jian is the only host who truly cares about the importance of KOF and is in friendly terms with his employees, Iwao barely hides in contempt for everyone around him, while Misty can put up a charming facade if it benefits her interests, but she's ultimately self-serving.
• Running Gag: Cao Long blathering on about his greatness only for the other person ending up asking who the hell he is.

King Of Underground Fighters: L.A. Dark League

• Adaptational Nice Guy: In canon, Ron was a ruthless assassin who slaughtered his own clan to near extinction and offered his services to NESTS for more power. While his backstory here seems identical, he's definitely more personable, defending Mr. Big from the justified vitriol coming from the other New Hizoku members and being a pretty forgiving Benevolent Boss. It's heavily implied that obtaining one of the Dragon's Spirit Fragments mellowed him out.
• Bad Boss: John Crawley and Jack Turner leave thier men behind to be arrested by the police, the former even mocking them before blocking the only way out.
• Badass Biker: Rosa, who drives a Ducati.
• Broken Bird: Lyzer is one of the many unfortunate kids whose lives were destroyed by NESTS. After a long period of painful experiments, memory deletion and with the constant threat of death hanging over her head, she's still casually tossed into the literal garbage bin with all the other "defects". In the present day, she's an almost literal Empty Shell, left with nothing but to collect vengeance with Benimaru, the person who she thinks robbed her of everything to make space for his powers.
• Butt-Monkey: Mr. Big is borderline incapable of garnering respect to save his life. His own allies hold themselves back from insulting him, he's kicked around in every scene he's in and generally seems to be completely out of his depth in the larger power plays surrounding New Horizon.
• Small Name, Big Ego: Hearing from Kang Bae Dal, he's hypes himself up as the greatest fighter that has ever lived. In actuality, he lost at the first round of four consecutive Underground Fighters.
• Two Girls to a Team: Domino and Luan for the New Hizoku.
• Villainous Friendship: Jyazu and Silber may be two misanthropic Social Darwinists, but they have nothing but respect for each other, Jyazu in particular emphasizes how glad he is to have met his partner when they reunite in Chapter 2.
