Go To

Strange Magic in Gravesfield is a crossover between The Owl House and Doctor Strange (2016). Taking place not long after "King's Tide" for the former and Spider-Man: No Way Home for the latter, the story has Doctor Strange detect and investigate the unknown magic that have been detected in Gravesfield thanks to the Hexsquad. Although things start looking up for the dimensionally displaced witches after he arrives, Belos isn't out of the game yet, and now that he knows that human magic users exist, he's got a whole new set of targets.

  • Absence of Evidence: Strange learns that the Boiling Isles have been interacting with Earth since at least the 1600s, yet the Masters have no records of said past encounters, which means that someone, presumably the Ancient One, covered it up for whatever reason.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Strange's arrival triggers Luz and Camila's talk before the events of "For the Future".
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 5, following Belos's demise, is mainly fluff before the story gets back to the main plot.
  • Content Warnings: Chapter 6 has one for panic attacks and anxiety.
  • Fusion Fic: Combines the Earths of the Owl House and the MCU into one world.
  • In-Universe Catharsis: The Hexsquad gets to see Belos finished off for good, and Hunter and Vee even get a chance to throw in some final words to him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Belos is finally finished off for good in Chapter 4, with author's notes confirming that he's dead.
  • Magic Eater: Belos, in desperation, tries to absorb the containment box that Strange trapped him in, and finds out that it works. It's not as potent as absorbing Palismen, but it allows him to weaken the prison so he can try to escape.
  • Meaningful Rename: In Chapter 6, Hunter takes on Darius's last name of "Deamonne", since he was one of the few adults to remotely care about him when he was the Golden Guard.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: The only reference to the Boiling Isles that Strange can find in Kamar-Taj's libraries mentions that it would no longer be mentioned or recorded in their records after an incident with a Master Tlawk, but with no mention of what that incident is. Wong wonders, given all the other threats that the Masters are aware of to Earth, or even the universe as a whole, what danger is so terrible that sorcerers can't even know about it.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: After somehow using Stringbean to create an ice glyph on Earth and freeze an escaped Belos, much to her own surprise, Luz faints.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Strange tracks down and captures Belos in the first chapter, but he starts breaking out later on.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Strange's opinion of Boiling Isles witch magic when he first analyzes it; a basic source of energy that can be shaped into numerous forms and types of spells, from nature magic to illusions.
  • Tempting Fate: Strange says that Belos being in the holding cells should be fine as long as no one tries to redeem him. Unfortunately, he's quickly proven wrong when the madman escapes later that chapter.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Strange traps Belos easily and assumes that that's the end of it. He later gets out by absorbing the magic of his cell and grabs some artifacts the Masters have, even managing to hit Strange with one that renders him immobile.
  • Wrong Context Magic: The Masters of the Mystic Arts have apparently never encountered the kind of magic native to the Boiling Isles before. This isn't entirely unusual, given that there are theoretically infinite kinds of energy, but it's still noteworthy enough that Strange goes to investigate himself.
