"Peter acts like a spider. The Bats have opinions on it."

Instead of the Snap killing Spider-Man, it instead sent him to another dimension. Specifically, Gotham. He begins working with the Bats, and (upon Batman telling him that there's no need to hide all of his powers), begins showing some of the... stranger traits he got from the spider bite.

Written by emmacortana, this is a one-shot fic focusing on some of the stranger traits Peter Parker might have gotten from the spider.

Tropes:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Spider-Man lost a leg while saving Batman from a bomb. He's more annoyed about it than anything, as he can grow the leg back but it takes forever (and Bruce won't let him out of the house until it's fully grown back).
  • Anger Born of Worry: At first, Batman is skeptical of Spider-Man. But, as time goes on and he helps the Bats more and more, it becomes clear to Spidey that most of his bitterness is hiding genuine concern for the web-head.
  • Composite Character: More like composite ability. Different adaptations of Spider-Man have alternated between giving him organic webbing and web shooters. Here, he has both: he uses his natural spinnerets for longer-lasting webs and his shooters for web-slinging (as natural webs aren't meant to do that).
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Batman isn't one to instantly trust metas, but he believes that what happens to mutants/enhanced people in Spidey's dimension is sickening.
    • None of the Bats are opposed to using Jack Bauer Interrogation Techniques, but Spidey's way of getting a criminal to talk leaves them all a little shaken.
  • Fantastic Racism: Spider-Man admits to Batman that, in his dimension, super-powered people (unless they have a powerful figure behind them, like Peter did with Iron Man) can be Kidnapped for Experimentation (with Peter admitting that it's happened to him before), and that this is perfectly legal. Batman calmly asks if Spider-Man knows how to get back to his dimension, as Batman would like to go have a... talk with the government.
  • Furry Reminder: The entire premise of the fic is Spider-Man revealing to the reader and the Bats some of the stranger, more spider-y traits he got from the spider bite. Including: purring, hissing, chirping, spinning webs (with natural spinnerets), eating bugs (though he claims he's reformed), "looser" bones, venom (though he may or may not have been joking about that), a sensitivity to ethyl chloride (along with anything similar to it, like vinegar or essential oils), the inability to thermoregulate, and the ability to grow back lost limbs, teeth, or eyes.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: While interrogating a criminal, Spider-Man pretends to be this. He scares the perp so bad he starts crying.
  • It's All My Fault: Bruce feels horrible guilt over Peter losing his leg and nearly dying saving Batman. He more-or-less snaps out of it when Peter tells him a) his healing factor helps him come back from pretty much any injury, and b) spiders can regenerate lost limbs and he can grow the leg back.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Peter, despite all of the spidery traits he shows here, still looks completely human.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Peter's tendency to do this drives Bruce as crazy as it does Tony.
  • Precision F-Strike: This is the general reaction from some of the Bats when Spidey shows some of his weirder powers.
  • Taking the Bullet: Spider-Man jumped on Batman to push him out of the way of the bomb, taking a majority of the blast and (according to Bruce) almost dying on the operating table.
  • Trapped in Another World: Peter admits to Bruce by the end that this is what happened to him, and that he's going to try and find a way to get back to his dimension while he waits for his leg to grow back.
  • You Must Be Cold: Batman (after chewing out Spider-Man for not telling them he goes into hibernation if he gets too cold), gives him his cape so he can warm up enough to go home.
