Fanfic / Space Jam 2 Across The Serververse

Go To

Space Jam 2- Across the Serververse is a Space Jam: A New Legacy fanfic written by Roxygoth, published on July 22, 2021 and completed on February 24, 2022.

This is an AU where the plot to the movie is the same with some major changes. For starters, there is no Lebron James, no celebrities, no human characters. The main heroes are just the Looney Tunes. Like the canon movie, the villain Al-G-Rhythm has scattered the Tunes all across the serververse, transported into different worlds, to keep them from interfering with his plans for a hostile takeover. He made one mistake: messing with this unusual family, the Tunes. After months of being all alone, Bugs Bunny goes on a mission to stop Al-G’s plans and reunite his family. Armed with slapstick, cultural references, and fourth wall breaks, the Tunes are going to beat Mr. Rhythm at his game with their rules!

This fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In the original film, the rest of the toons were more than willing to accept Al-G Rhythm's offer to leave Toon World and venture out into the Serververse, promise other avenues to explore, even if it meant abandoning Bugs, who chose to stay behind. Due to the closer relationship they have in this fanfic, the other toons chose to decline Rhythm's offer of leaving, forcing him to capture the toons, except Bugs, and scattering them across the Serververse against their will.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Even more so than the two Space Jam movies, the Looney Tunes are a tight-knit family unit, while still maintaining their wacky personalities. The dialogue between the Tunes constantly refers to them as “brothers and sisters” or “family”.
    • In an odd twist, Bugs and Lola, who are portrayed as mutual love interests in other Looney Tunes properties, see each other as "found siblings" off-screen in this story.
Al-G-Rhythm:You consider Lola Bunny a sister? I thought you were dating.
Bugs:Eh...That's in canon, Doc. This is 'off-stage' so ta speak.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • An interesting example is Marvin the Martian. While Marvin was heavily advertised in the film’s promotional material including wearing the Tune Squad uniform, he was only in a couple of scenes during the beginning and near the climax. Yet, he doesn’t participate in the basketball game and only plays a minor role. The fanfic changes this by having him be a main character this time, is a major contribution in helping search for the other Tunes and joins the rest of them in their final battle against Al-G in the climax.
    • Likewise, Penelope Pussycat, who also was heavily advertised, but unlike Marvin, didn’t even make an appearance in the film. Now, she, along with her husband Pepé, is part of the mission to rescue the other Tunes.
    • In a lesser example, Witch Hazel, who was briefly seen boarding Al-G’s rocket in the film, without any dialogue. Here, while not a major character, does still play a prominent role in a few chapters with several lines.
  • Distressed Dude: Elmer Fudd, in a state of suspended animation, is trapped in a glass box hanging from a ceiling, as part of Al-G’s incentive for the other Tunes to participate in his series of three challenges in Chapter 24.
  • Hilarious Outtakes: Chapter 30.
  • Precision F-Strike: Bugs Bunny, of all characters, tells Al-G-Rhythm this shocking gem after his family has been abducted.
Bugs: What the fuck have you done with my family?
  • Take That!: Against the source material.
    • Chapter 3.
Dawg: It 'elps that your "random location" was here and not say Game of Thrones.
Foghorn : (breaking the fourth wall) That, I say, that's a shout out, readers.
Dawg: (rolling his eyes) I think they got that, Foggy.
    • Chapter 2.
Bugs: I even tried Ace Bunny, dat's how desperate oi was!
  • Too Dumb to Live: On chapter 24, Daffy proclaims that even if Elmer, currently in a state of suspended animation, was not unconscious, he would “not have the braincells” to consider trying to escape his glass prison and they would have to drag him out by hand. The other toons nod in agreement with Daffy. Given what we’ve seen in earlier Elmer cartoons, Daffy was right on the mark.
