Fanfic / Snippets of Sirin Shariac's life

Go To

This page contains unmarked spoilers for Honkai Impact 3rd. It's recommended to play the game first before continuing. You Have Been Warned!

In an alternate universe the second Herrscher Sirin and Schicksal’s top valkyrie Cecilia Shariac barely survived the Second Honkai War and managed to return home. There the young girl was adopted into the Kaslana-Shariac household and was given another chance at the normal life she always wanted. These are the stories of that world.

Snippets of Sirin Shariac’s life is a fanfic of Honkai Impact 3rd, set in an alternate timeline in which Cecilia and Sirin survived the events of Honkai Impact 3rd: Second Eruption and the latter ends up being adopted by the former. Most chapters are self-contained one-shot stories from this AU being told out-of-order, though later chapters began to incorporate overarching storylines and multi-chapter arcs. It was written by BestgirlEmm and can be read here.

This story contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The Bianka Ataegina that appears in this story is not the original Kiana Kaslana, as the events that lead to her identity loss never happen, instead she's an OC with unknown background. It's a consequence of her character having been introduced into this story before her origins had been revealed in canon.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: With Schicksal and Anti-Entropy having a better working relationship World Serpent becomes their target and is forced to become active much sooner than in canon, where they waited until after the "Herrscher of Void"-incident. The "Breakout" arc is directly stated to be set a year before the game’s events.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Mobius has mellowed out a lot over the last few millennia. Her only goal now is simply to understand why the current era Herrschers are siding with humanity and she seems to show genuine care about some of her subjects, specifically Sirin. The fact she’s now successfully working as a school nurse should tell you everything.
  • Adapted Out:
    • K-423 is never created, as Cecilia surviving means Otto never got the chance to experiment on the original Kiana.
    • The "Breakout" chapters are stated by Word of God to replace the "Moon Shadow" manga in this setting, as Sirin being alive and Schicksal and Anti-Entropy working together cut the gem trials short before they could cause major harm.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Sirin often calls Himeko "Hime".
  • Anachronic Order: While all set in the same universe, the snippets don't necessarily follow the timeline in a linear way. It can be expected to have a snippet focused on Sirin’s job as an adult valkyrie be followed up with one about her home life as a teenager.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: The story is told in third person and mainly focuses on Sirin and the way she impacts others’ lives, so frequent switches to her friends and family are expected. Though more notable examples that barely, if at all, involve Sirin have begun to show up.
    • "Vermilion" is about Hua preparing herself to fight the current era Herrscher of Flames, Himeko, and is noted to be the first snippet to not revolve around Sirin in any way, only involving a short appearance of her in a flashback.
    • "Slithering Snake" focuses on Mobius and shows us what she’d been up to between the end of the previous era and becoming a therapist at St. Freya. It's soon followed by the "Breakout" chapters, which are about the fallout of Mobius’ connection to World Serpent being discovered.
  • Anti Climax Cut: In "Breakout 2: Electric Boogaloo", as Mobius escapes in Raven’s car, she briefly wonders how Sirin is doing. Quick cut to Sirin who’s preparing the dinner table at that exact moment, yet unaware of what happened.
  • The Atoner: One of the reasons why Sirin became a Valkyrie is to make up for the suffering she caused as the Second Herrscher during the Second Honkai War.
  • Back from the Dead: It was stated that the personality known as "Bella" died with the destruction of her pseudo core. In this story Sirin is able to bring her back by using her Herrscher powers to mend said core.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The snippet "Mario Party goes about as well as you'd expect" features all the girls present talking in their native languages, including German, Russian, Chinese and Japanese.
  • Birthday Episode: Currently features multiple. "First Birthday" and "Little sister's birthday" are set on Sirin's and Kiana's birthdays respectively and were even released on the characters' actual birthdays. "Vacation" features Sirin and Bella traveling to the moon specifically to honor the latter's date of birth at her birthplace.
  • Blood Knight: Herrscher of Flames Himeko is solely interested in fighting Hua and even goes so far as to destroy any Honkai Beasts that try to attack Hua and forbids them from interfering.
  • Body Horror: Being hit point blank by Bella's flames during the "Nagazora" arc causes high degree burns all across Mei's body, described as the outer skin layer having molten away. The Herrscher of Thunder tries to heal those with Honkai energy to the best of her abilities, leaving most of her covered in cubic Honkai growths fused to her skin, which need to be surgically removed in a later chapter.
  • Composite Character: Kiana in this story is the original one with a personality closer to that of the clone one. Because of Sirin being alive K-423 is never created and the plane crash in which Kiana gets lost never happens.
  • Cool Big Sis: Sirin is one to Kiana and it's not hard to see why. How would you react to an older sister that can fly, create portals and comes packaged with a dragon maid?
  • Decomposite Character:
    • In canon Kurikara was the result of Mei reanimating the corpse of Benares with her powers. In this story they're two entirely separate entities, with Kurikara being a different Honkai creature that was created by the Herrscher of Thunder during this story's "Nagazora" arc.
    • Bianka Ateagina in this story is not the original Kiana Kaslana, but exists as her own separate character.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Otto really should've known better than using his Divine Key against one of the people responsible for creating it. Mobius easily convinced Void Archives to tell her everything it knew about Otto.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • This AU explores how events would have turned out if Sirin and Cecilia survived the Second Honkai War.
    • While her canon fate at the end of the Previous Era is left intentionally ambiguous, Mobius is alive and active in this story and works at St. Freya to observe the Herrschers.
  • Floating Limbs: Sirin briefly utilizes giant projected hands in her fight with the Herrscher of Thinder.
  • Good Parents: Probably to make up for lost time in canon, Cecilia and Siegfried are very loving and caring parents to both Kiana and the adopted Sirin.
  • Happily Adopted: The main premise of this story. Sirin is adopted by the Kaslana-Shariac family. She loves Cecilia and even took her surname. Her new younger sister Kiana is equally adored by her. The relationship to Siegfried is very noticeably colder, though it’s pretty understandable why.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: A recurring theme in chapters that focus on Bella or Kurikara is their desire and struggles to better understand human behavior and customs and slowly adapt to them.
  • Humans Through Alien Eyes: Several chapters are written from the perspective of Bella or Kurikara and often put emphasis on them failing to understand humans. This ranges from celebrating birthdays to the simple act of sleeping.
  • I Know You're Watching Me: Mobius does this during her jail time in "Breakout 2: Electric Boogaloo". When the screen Tesla is using to interrogate her suddenly goes dark, the doctor quickly checks the security camera. She finds Mobius going to her bed before stopping and suddenly turn to make eye contact, causing Tesla to flinch.
  • Insistent Terminology: Sirin insists on being a St. Freya Valkyrie and not one of Schicksal. When asked on the difference she just replies that she doesn't like the Overseer.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Himeko still becomes a teacher at St. Freya despite the mission that led to her squad being wiped out not having happened, as K-423 doesn't exist here. Instead witnessing the end of Bianka's squad made her decide to become a teacher.
  • Keeping the Handicap:
    • Despite not needing to do so as a Herrscher, Sirin still decides to eat, sleep and breath to keep her humanity.
    • In "The price I chose to pay" it's revealed that Cecilia offered multiple times to restore her missing left arm with Abyssflower, but Sirin refused to keep it as a reminder of her actions during the Second Honkai War. It doesn't impact her life much though, as she can create a replacement out of Honkai energy whenever necessary.
  • My Greatest Failure: In "The price I chose to pay" it's revealed that Sirin considers almost all the deaths she caused during the Second Honkai War, particularly by throwing meteors at earth, as this. The exception are the staff of Babylon Labs, whom she doesn't regret killing even many years later.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In "Nagazora (part 4): Traitor" the Herrscher of Thunder briefly briefly grows the oni horns and has a giant hand appear that Mei features with her own Herrscher of Thunder-battlesuit before dismissing them again.
Herrscher of Thunder: It's not mine.
    • The name given to Mei's Herrscher personality, Baal, is based on the title of the third chapter of the "Escape from Nagazora" manga, Wrath of Baal.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In canon Mei’s Herrscher personality was never addressed in a specific manner. In this story it’s referred to as Baal.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Guess what game the girls are playing in "Mario Party goes about as well as you'd expect".
    • Mei’s Herrscher personality is called Baal in this story, referring to the name of the Electro Archon of Genshin Impact that’s ironically based on Mei herself.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Sirin and Cecilia survive the Second Honkai War in this story.
    • Because K-423 doesn't exist in this story, Himeko's squad is never killed by her and Ragna is still alive.
  • Story Arc: While the story mostly consists of self-contained one-shots, overarching storylines and multi-chapter arcs do still manage to crop up:
    • The "Nagazora" arc, "Nagazora (part 0): Arrival" to "Nagazora (part 7): Return" is this fic's version of the "Escape from Nagazora" storyline and chronicles Raiden Mei's awakening as the Herrscher of Thunder and the subsequent clash with Sirin and Bella.
  • Teasing from Behind the Language Barrier: In "Mario Party goes about as well as you'd expect" Bronya and Hua start talking in their respective native languages to tease the others (mostly Kiana) about their inability to understand their languages.
  • Trauma Button: Sirin reacts very sensitive to someone touching the stump of her left arm, as shown in "Sister". In fact, every reminder of Siegfried's monster transformation and what he did to her can have horrible results to her mental state, as seen in "Fear".
  • Wham Line: In "Nagazora (part 7): Return" when Mei addresses the doctor taking care of her.
Mei: ... Thank you, um… [Mei looks at her nameplate] Doctor Mobius.
