Silent Midorijima
(formerly titled To Where Evil Doesn’t Reach), written by PinkROmantic and published on Archive of Our Own, is a Completed Fic Silent Hill AU of the BL Visual Novel DRAMAtical Murder.
In a Midorijima where The Bad Guy Wins, ten months have passed, and a white fog has been unleashed on the island, filled with abominations that attack anyone they sense. An amnesiac Aoba awakens in a makeshift shelter, his worried sick grandmother by his side and his AllMate missing. He gathers his courage to search for his lost memories in the wastes, but all is not what it seems...
Silent Midorijima provides examples of the following tropes:
- Animalistic Abomination: What seems to be the mutated body of All-Mate Ren turns out to be housing Desire!Aoba's soul, having transfered within due to Sei managing to save him from a berserk Ren.
- Bittersweet Ending: The True Ending. Toue and Morphine are neutralized, the Scrap fog is gone, Sei is alive and the survivors are allowed to escape Midorijima. On the other hand, Reason!Aoba was murdered by Ren, and he decides to join him in death after destroying Usui. Over 99% of Midorijima's population have died attempting to flee the island, and several more for attempting to assist the survivors too early. Fortunately, Desire!Aoba isn't as Scrap-happy as before and it's presumed that his dead personalities are reborn in the baby rescued from Oval Tower thanks to Sei.
- Butt-Monkey: Koujaku isn't taken too kindly in the events of this fic, when first introduced, he's severely injured. By the time his inner demons are confronted and defeated, he's then knocked out and bedridden until the ending.
- Dead All Along
- Aoi Takatsuki, former Toue Corp scientist and teacher in a high school in the Old Residential District is locked in the Oval Tower by the time the Scrap fog is spread and managed to survive by hiding in a research room...then her corpse is found in the next chapter.
- The fanfic's events occur after Ren's Bad Ending, and in fact Reason!Aoba died to the berserk Ren devouring him.
- Trip, mauled by a still berserk Ren in Aoba's body before the fog's manifestation.
- Darker and Edgier/Dark Fic: Due to being a Silent Hill-flavoured AU, this is to be expected.
- Downer Ending: End A and B result in some of the mystery left unsolved, with the fog remaining and some of the main characters dying.
- Final Boss: In all three endings, storyline-wise. In End A, Desire!Aoba. In End B, Ren. In End C, Usui.
- Hope Spot: Aoba finds Takatsuki, who managed to survive in the fog-filled Oval Tower...only to for the illusion to break, revealing her days-old corpse.
- Humanoid Abomination: Desire!Aoba.
- Killed Off for Real: At the end of the fic, Reason!Aoba, Trip, Virus, Toue and Ren are dead.
- Multiple Endings:
- End A. The Reverberating Of The Fairy Tale/Bad Ending 1: Ren kills Desire!Aoba. Sei desperately calls for Clear's help, but accidentally corrupts him with the alternative memories, resulting in Mink's death. With both Aoba gone, Ren relapses into the berserker state, forcing Clear to subdue him. With the twins' bodies immobilized and dying, Clear and Noiz (brought to Oval Tower by Sei) stay to take care of them. And Virus escapes with Sei's priced memory.
- End B. The Rise Of The Broken Prince/Bad Ending 2: Sei manages to stop Ren from killing Desire!Aoba, giving whatever remains of his brother his body back. Desire!Aoba and Mink finally give Virus and Toue respectively their fatal just desserts. But then a berserk Ren ambushes and kills Mink, before Desire!Aoba slays the beast. It seems Sei is rescued, but then Usui imprisons them all.
- End C. The Love Of The Suicidal Princess/True Ending: The events of End B play out until Sei manages to pacify Ren, sparing Mink. Ren takes Aoba's body once more, and defeats Usui before joining Reason!Aoba in death. The fog dissipates and the survivors escape Midorijima.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Sei in the True Ending.
- Tomato in the Mirror: The Aoba we saw going through the foggy wastes, attempting to look for Ren? Reason is dead. Ren is the one inhabiting the body because he devoured and killed him.
- "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: After the survivors escape Midorijima, they all go their separate ways due being severely affected by the disaster.
