Signverse AU is a Star vs. the Forces of Evil fanfic series written by blackwolfwrites/ blackwolf667 (with parts of the original The Sign of the Moon co-written by RK-128). It is an epic, high-fantasy AU that follows Star and Marco as they uncover the mystery of their Blood Moon bond. The series consists of three main installments: The Sign of the Moon, The Dance of the Stars which follows 18-year-old Star and Marco as they navigate ruling Mewni and starting a family, and The Dawn of the Sun which follows not only the original cast but also the teenaged next generation: Star and Marco’s twins, Andromeda and Orion Diaz-Butterfly, Tom and Janna’s son, Dante Lucitor II, and Marco Jr., Marco's younger brother. The series contains romance, political intrigue, powerful enemies, and adventure. The series began in December 2017 and is still on-going, including reimagined versions of the first two stories, The Sign of the Moon: REDUX Edition and The Dance of the Stars: REDUX Edition.

Signverse AU contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Intelligence: In cannon Higgs was disrespectful to Star as part of her rivalry with Marco and competitiveness. Here she seems to know that as the princess/queen she can fire her so she’s much more respectful to her. It may actually be a case of Adaptational Personality Change as, though still a jerk to Marco, is actually loyal to the crown rather than just a self-serving hypocrite as revealed in season 4.
  • Afterlife Antechamber: Marco goes to this in The Sign of the Moon Chapter 21 after being killed by Mina in battle.
  • All Dogs Are Purebred: Cerberus, the three-headed Guardian of the Lucitor Family is a giant Rottweiler.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: In The Dawn of the Sun, Mia dated her ex, Marco Jr., for precisely this reason. Then she changed her mind.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: As it says on the tin.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Several.
    • Tom is a lot more murder-crazy in early The Sign of the Moon when he finds out that Marco and Star have gotten together. He gets 'much' better over time.
    • Dave Lucitor and Etheria Butterfly (as well as the Butterfly and Lucitor families in general) are upgraded from background characters to persnickety antagonists.
    • Star is more mature and willing to face her problems, especially in The Dance of the Stars and The Dawn of the Sun.
    • Globgor is a High Priest of the Blood Moon and a tragic antagonist versus his laidback Good All Along counterpart in the show's canon
  • Amicable Exes:
    • Tom and Star become this early on in The Sign of the Moon.
    • Eclipsa was revealed to be this with Prince Dante Lucitor I via a flashback in The Sign of the Moon.
    • Jackie is this to Marco.
  • Arranged Marriage: Star and Tom were almost this due to an ancient Butterfly-Lucitor pact called The Promise, which was made between the First Butterfly Queen and King Lucius Lucitor I. They agreed to have their kingdoms united through marriage within the next thousand years, or something 'really' bad would happen to Mewni. As of The Dawn of the Sun, a thousand years have already passed.
  • Bargain with Heaven: In the annual Stump Day Retelling in The Dance of the Stars: REDUX Edition, it is revealed that the First Queen made a bargain with the Stump, the Mewnian god of revenge and relationships, to save the settlers from the inhospitable winter. Later in the same chapter, Star does the exact same thing to make the Stump leave her and her friends alone.
  • Beta Couple: Janna and Tom become this in The Sign of the Moon and onward.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Star, Marco, and their friends are pretty much this all the time by saving Mewni from an attempted coup caused by Eclipsa and Meteora in The Sign of the Moon and uniting Mewni as one army to face Globgor's daemon horde in The Dance of the Stars.
    • Andromeda, Orion, and Dante become this after protecting Butterfly Castle from an Old-Order Demon in The Dawn of the Sun
  • Big Friendly Dog: Cerberus is the intimidating Guardian of the Lucitor family...and also a huge lover of Marco’s Nachos. She also qualifies as a Canis Major.
  • Blessed with Suck: The Blood Moon chooses you and your partner to be magically bound together for eternity and grants you both super cool powers. Cool! But if something were to happen to you or the bond, then you might literally go insane or worse.
    • Andromeda and Orion learn that being soul-bonded to your twin during and after Mewberty can lead to some unfortunate events.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Tom decides to be a hands-on, caring parent to his son, Dante, in The Dance of the Sun.
  • The Casanova: The Lucitor princes were this, especially King Dante I. Marco Jr. is this as a teenager.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Andromeda and Dante are this in The Dawn of the Sun since they’ve known each other their entire lives.
  • The Conqueror:
    • Star commands the Army of Mewni (a super alliance of all the kingdoms, humans, and Monsters) to take back Mewni from King Globgor and Princess Meteora in The Dance of the Stars. Also qualifies as a Young Conqueror because she's only 20.
    • In the same story, Tom becomes King of the Underworld by defeating his tyrannical father, Dave, in a duel for the throne.
  • Cool Horse: Sir Runs-A-Lot is Star’s primary mount throughout the series. He’s a unicorn/warnicorn hybrid, extremely loyal, and absolutely fearless in normal situations that would scare ordinary horses. He also teamed up with Cerberus and Tom’s Deadhorse mare to take down a pack of hellhounds in The Sign of the Moon Chapter 7.
  • Cool Uncle: Marco Jr. is this to Andromeda, Orion, and Jupiter (Star and Marco’s youngest daughter).
  • Daddy's Girl: Star is this to River. Andromeda and Jupiter are this to Marco.
  • Dance of Romance: Several throughout the series. In The Sign of the Moon alone it happens in: the first chapter, The Prince’s Ball (for Star/Marco and Tom/Janna), the dance in the Cave of the Blood Moon in Chapter 17 (in Ch 18 in The Sign of the Moon REDUX).
    • There’s also the Silver Bell Ball dance between Orion and Mia, his human girlfriend, in The Dawn of the Sun. Her ex, Marco Jr., was not happy about that one...
  • Dead Guy Junior: Prince Dante Thomas Lucitor II is named after his many-times removed-great-grandfather, King Dante Thomas Lucitor I.
  • Death of a Child: Marco in The Sign of the Moon and Orion in The Dance of the Stars. Luckily, neither sticks.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: The Blood Moon delivers prophecies to Star and Marco via dreams. In The Sign of the Moon: REDUX Edition, the members of Team Starco (Tom, Janna, Jackie, and Pony Head) experience this as well.
  • Fan Verse
  • Fantasy Pantheon: The Mewmans and Monsters worship a pantheon of powerful Spirits, namely the Mother Sun, the Father Moon, and the Sister Stars (the Holy Three). Glossaryck is considered a minor deity.
  • Gender Flip: Mariposa from the show’s canon is Marco Jr. in the AU. The discrepancy comes from the fact that The Sign of the Moon and most of The Dance of the Stars was written before Mariposa’s gender reveal in season 4.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Quite a few:
    • Tom is half-demon and half-warlock through his father, Dave.
    • Star and Marco’s children are half-human and half-Mewman.
    • Tom and Janna's children are half-human, one-quarter warlock, and one-quarter demon.
  • Happily Adopted: Darrion Thomas and his adoptive mothers, Chloe and Jackie-Lynn Thomas.
  • Happily Married: Quite a few couples, including Star/Marco, Tom/Janna, and Jackie/Chloe.
  • Hate Sink: Dave and Etheria are massive jerkasses with no likable qualities whatsoever. Rude, snobbish, and condescending, these two exist to be hated.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Eclipsa in The Dance of the Stars.
  • Heroic BSoD: Star goes through this in Chapter 25 of The Dance of the Stars while grieving the death of her son and being separated from Marco, who is held captive by Globgor. Marco also goes through this as well in the same chapter.
  • The High King: Or most specifically, the High Queen. All of the other kingdoms follow the Butterfly Queen of Mewni despite also having their own monarchs.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: When Star and Marco go to the royal OBGYN in The Dance of the Stars, they come across a painting of a queen who was pregnant at age 15, with Star being uncomfortable at the thought of being pregnant that young. Eventually blackwolfwrites would write another fanfic with that exact premise.
  • Honorary Uncle: Tom and Marco are this to each other’s children in The Dance of the Stars and The Dawn of the Sun.
  • I Am Not My Father: Tom does everything in his power to distance himself from Dave and prove himself as a better prince in The Dance of the Stars.
  • Interspecies Romance: Several.
    • Star and Marco (Mewman x Human)
    • Tom and Janna (Demon/Warlock x Human)
    • Princess Penelope Spiderbite and Slime (Mewman x Monster)
  • It Runs in the Family: Orion is said to be as powerful and Star and Eclipsa, while Andromeda shares a lot of Marco's temperament.
  • Jerkass: Dave Lucitor (and how!) for: being a tyrannical king, and abusive husband and father, for using Hell Casting (which sends its victim into their own personal hell) on Marco, trying to guilt-trip Tom into marrying Star (repeatedly), opposing Tom's relationship with Janna, and helping Globgor destroy Mewni by helping him open a portal to the Great Horde in the Lake of Fire.
    • Etheria Butterfly is one for: constantly opposing Star's decisions and her relationship with Marco, and working with Dave's ghost to start another Butterfly-Lucitor civil war in The Dawn of the Sun.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Tom is this in The Sign of the Moon but gets better throughout the series.
    • Heartrude and Felicity Butterfly are revealed to be this in The Dawn of the Sun.
    • Marco Jr. is a flunky, a womanizer, and a brawler but a doting uncle to his nieces and nephew.
  • Love Triangle: The Sign of the Moon has Tom/Star/Marco, extremely one-sided Jackie/Marco/Star which becomes Kelly/Marco/Star in ''The Sign of the Moon: REDUX Edition.
    • The Dawn of the Sun has Marco Jr./Mia/Orion, which is particularly interesting since Marco Jr. and Orion are uncle and nephew.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Heavily implied that Star and Marco tend to do this a lot, but most notably in tents, in meadows, and in the royal carriage.
  • Maligned Mixed Marriage: The Mewmans (especially the royals) are extremely prejudiced against non-Mewmans, so imagine their reaction when Star marries Marco, who is a human and a commoner.
    • Dave and the Lucitors have a field day when they find out about Tom and Janna’s betrothal in The Dance of the Stars.
  • Mama Bear: Moon becomes this when she sacrifices her life to protect Star from Eclipsa's Dark Magic in The Sign of the Moon. Also, Star, 'BIG TIME.' Do 'NOT' mess with her babies...
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Globgor is 300+ years older than Eclipsa.
  • Medieval Stasis: Mewni, though it modernizes when Star becomes Queen with the help of Earth technology.
  • Meet the In-Laws: Tom faces a hilarious version of this when he meets Janna’s parents in The Dance of the Stars Chapter 7.
  • Mindlink Mates: Star and Marco. The Blood Moon bond allows them to share thoughts, emotions, and can even let them possess each other’s bodies.
  • Modest Royalty: Star and Marco become this in The Dawn of the Sun. In fact, Star forbids Mia from bowing when she first visits Mewni in Chapter 8.
  • Momma's Boy: Marco and Marco Jr. are this to Angie. Orion and Star share such a close bond that he figured out Star's pregnancy before anyone else.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Globgor crosses this when he sacrifices two babies to open to unleash the daemon army upon Mewni in The Dance of the Stars despite warnings not to.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: The Butterflys become this to Marco.
  • Outdated by Canon: In canon, Marco's little sibling, who was referred to as "Maro Jr." prior to being born, turned out to be a girl named Mariposa.
  • Papa Wolf: Don’t put your grubby boy-hands on Star or River will chase you around the castle. Also, Marco is this to his kids.
  • The Power of Love: Blood Moon Magic is essentially this.
  • Rags to Royalty: Marco goes from squire to prince to King The Sign of the Moon, although it doesn’t exactly lead to a fairytale ending.
  • Red String of Fate: The Blood Moon bond acts as this for Star and Marco and Orion and Andromeda have this as well.
  • Royal Blood: Only the firstborn son of a Lucitor can become the King of the Underworld because they can use powerful magic.
  • Royal Harem: The earliest queens practiced keeping harems, but that was abolished long ago. In The Dawn of the Sun, Orion attempts to form one while under the effects of Mewberty. Luckily, it doesn’t work.
  • Royally Screwed Up: Both the Butterfly and Lucitor families are full of bastards, drama, and spite.
  • Ruling Couple: Star/Marco, Tom/Janna, and Penelope Spiderbite/Slime become this.
  • Shotgun Wedding: Tom and Janna’s royal marriage in The Dance of the Stars qualifies as this since she’s heavily pregnant with Dante.
  • Siblings Share the Throne: Andromeda and Orion both get wands on their 14th birthday, and both will inherit the throne when they're older.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: The in-universe story of the Two Lovers, who were caught up into the heavens when they couldn’t be together, is an example of this. And it turns out that the story is a retelling of the Sixth Dance or the Dance of the Stars, where Princess Celesta Butterfly and her lover, Jack, were taken by the Blood Moon. Eclipsa and Globgor are also this because they were imprisoned for having Meteora 300 years ago.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Not uncommon among queens. Eclipsa had Meteora at around 18, the same age Star and Janna had their first children.
  • Tsundere: Higgs has a not-so-subtle crush on Marco, though she acts like she hates him.
  • Twin Telepathy: Andromeda and Orion, the Seventh and a Half Dance are born with a Blood Moon bond. It proves to be a blessing and a curse.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Blood Moon dreams are often confusing, much to Star’s chagrin. Though Eclipsa in both The Dance of the Stars and The Dance of the Star REDUX Edition explicitly tells Star she’s pregnant.
