Scarface's Serenity
is a Scarface (1983) fanfic that takes place in an alternate universe in which Tony Montana is not a violent criminal. The story features Tony and Montana as petty criminals who have been framed for murder escaping a refugee camp and starting anew.
Tropes:
- Adaptational Heroism: While Tony is portrayed as a petty thief, he's far from the ruthless killer we see in the film.
- Bilingual Bonus: Tony yells "¡Ayudenme! ¡Estoy enfermo!" to get the attention of the guards of the refugee camp. A guard says this means he needs medical help, but it literally translates to "Help me! I'm sick!"
- Demoted to Extra: Angel and Hector, who have minor roles in the movie, are merely mentioned in Tony's backstory.
- Description Cut: Subverted. Right after it's mentioned that Tony and Manny knew that communication and coordination would be key during the escape attempt, Tony says ""Manny, we can't say a word during this escape." However, they devise a system of signals and codes that allow them to communicate silently during the escape.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Tony is perfectly okay with stealing a random truck. He even sets the truck on fire to avoid getting caught with a stolen vehicle, which also eliminates any chances of it ever being returned to its rightful owner. But he could never kill anyone.
- Fiery Cover Up: Tony and Manny set a stolen vehicle on fire to avoid being arrested for vehicular theft.
- Language Fluency Denial:
- Tony pretends to not know English so he can eavesdrop on the medical staff.
- Tony and Manny pretend to not know English when stopped by a police officer.
- Noodle Incident: Subverted. The story begins with Tony saying "I can't believe that asshole framed us for murder." However, this incident is explained further in the second chapter.
- Sick Captive Scam: Tony pretends to be sick to get into the medical wing of the refugee camp, where he eavesdrops on the medical staff.
