Fanfic / SCP-2043: The Magical World

Go To

SCP-2043: The Magical World is a crossover between Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the SCP Foundation by Nightelf 37. It takes the form of an SCP entry detailing the properties of a difficult-to-contain entity and the various other anomalous entities associated with it. While the jargon obfuscates the subject matter, it soon becomes apparent that the entry is describing an Incubator, a magical girl, a Soul Gem and Grief Seed, and a witch and its familiars.

Tropes present in this fanfic include:

  • Alternate Continuity: The setting and background of the Foundation are the same as most canon interpretations of it, but the fanfic's version of SCP-2043 is drastically different than the canon one; the fic's 2043 and its sub-entities comprise Madoka Magica's magical girl system, while the canon 2043 is a young adult who makes duplicates of herself whenever she isn't being watched.
  • Deal with the Devil: The SCP Foundation used to let eligible D-Class personnel make wishes with SCP-2043-1/Kyubey and become magical girls, at the cost of someday becoming witches. The Foundation attempted to get some benefit out of the bargain by only allowing wishes that could aid the organization, but something happened that resulting in their forbidding any wishing with Kyubey at all.
  • Gilded Cage: The SCP Foundation's sole magical girl in custody was essentially kidnapped (being implied to be one of the main characters of Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and can never leave. However, she's living in standard housing for a humanoid SCP, is given three meals a day, and will likely never succumb to despair and become a Witch thanks to being forbidden to use her powers and getting supplied with strong antidepressants and Grief Seeds whenever her Soul Gem darkens.
  • Noodle Incident: D-Class personnel have been banned from making wishes with SCP-2043-1/Kyubey since Incident-20947. While it's unclear if an escape attempt by an empowered D-Class described later in the entry is the incident in question, the incident's outcome was bad enough that any new magical girls created during testing are to be terminated immediately.
