Fanfic / Ryuko's Bizarre Adventure: Deadly Academia

Go To

Ryuko's Bizarre Adventure: Deadly Academia is a Fusion Fic written by LittleMissZatanna that sets the events of Kill la Kill in the Jojos Bizarre Adventure universe.

It takes the basic premise of Kill La Kill, beginning with Ryuko’s quest to find out who killed her father and challenge Satsuki Kiryuin, only instead of Life Fibers, Stands are what everyone use to fight. Things take a detour from Kill La Kill’s original plot when Josuke Higashikata shows up to help out Ryuko and gradually diverge more when it’s revealed that Ragyo Kiryuin has been mentored by Dio.

The story assumes that the reader is familiar with both Kill La Kill and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure so unmarked spoilers for both may appear on this page.

Ryuko’s Bizarre Adventure: Deadly Academia provides examples of:

  • 20 Minutes into the Past: The story is explicitly set in 2013, the same year as the Kill La Kill anime was released and in-universe a year after the events of Stone Ocean.
  • Abusive Parents: Ragyo Kiryuin, as per canon. This also now extends to Nui, whom Ragyo gives an unseen “disciplining” after she fails to protect her laboratory.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Here, Satsuki seems more clearly traumatized by her Ragyo’s abuse towards her and is brought up several times throughout the story.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Both Ragyo and Nui weren’t primary characters until halfway into the original Kill La Kill, here they have a subplot that begins as early as Chapter 4.
  • Adaptational Location Change: The original Kill La Kill seems to indicate that Honnouji Academy is located in the middle of Tokyo Bay. Here, a flashback shows it being built in the middle of Sendai Bay instead. Presumably this is so that it would be closer to Morioh, a town based on the real life Sendai.
  • Adaptational Name Change: To fit with Jojo’s Musical Theme Naming Senketsu is renamed to Depeche Mode.
  • Adapted Out: Nudist Beach is never mentioned at all in the story, with their role instead being fulfilled by the Speedwagon Foundation.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: Similar to Part 8’s Josuke, when Donatello and Nui are fused by the wall eyes into a new form named Genesis he initially can’t remember anything.
  • Alternate Universe: Aside from it being a crossover, several events in the Jojo universe seem to have happened differently. It’s never explained how, but it seems that Father Pucci was defeated before he could activate Made In Heaven. Additionally, it’s shown that Donatello Versus wasn’t killed at the end of the Heavy Weather arc and was instead arrested and thrown in Green Dolphin Street Prison.
  • Continuity Nod: Several references to past events in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Universe are made
    • The Stand Arrow that Honnouji Academy has been using on its students is the same one that Polpo had been using to test Passione recruits.
    • In a flashback where a young Ragyo visits Dio in Egypt, she is the first one to give Nukesaku his disparaging nickname.
    • When Donatello uses Underworld at the remains of Dio’s mansion in Egypt, he accidentally summons a memory ghost of Pet Shop that he manages to distract by conjuring up a memory ghost of Iggy.
    • Similarly, when Donatello uses his powers again in Morioh he summons up versions of Angelo Katagiri and a teenaged Yoshikage Kira.
    • When Dio’s successor Genesis is dying, the last thing he remembers is Jonathan Joestar’s last words to Dio.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Ragyo and her associates use the phrase “Corporate Liquidation” to refer to assassination.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Kiryuin family steward Kuroida was already a fairly minor character in the original Kill La Kill. However he was still loyal to Ragyo and her plans. Here he’s only mentioned in passing a few times and only has one line, with it being unknown if he even knows Ragyo’s true intentions.
  • The Dreaded: Giorno Giovanna and Passione are so feared through Italy that once Ragyo realized what she was really dealing with she chose to leave them alone and avoid pissing them off.
  • Ear Ache: Donatello gets his ear sliced off by Ragyo after he fails to defeat Satsuki for her.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After his miserable canon ordeals and his defeat against Jolyne Cujoh, Rikiel is living a simple but much happier life : he returned to community college, took photography classes and got a part-time job. Thanks to his Stand Sky High, he can also picture Rods, and his friends, although puzzled by his Rods obsession, genuinely appreciate it.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Both Donatello Versus and Rei Hououmaru are disgusted when they find out that Ragyo has been molesting her daughters. However Donatello remains allied with Ragyo while Rei tries to help Satsuki.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Ragyo spends a large portion of the final battle naked thanks to having her clothes turned into a trap by Satsuki’s Stand.
  • Fusion Dance: The Morioh Wall Eyes end up fusing Nui and Donatello together into a new being that ends up calling himself Genesis.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Okuyasu, Koichi and Yukako are introduced and help out the main characters when the story first shifts to Morioh. However they leave after a while.
  • Maniac Tongue: A member of Ragyo’s assassin team named Dr. Zevon inexplicably stabs his own tongue while attempting to get his blood on his enemies.
  • Musical Theme Naming: Being a Jojo story, it’s a given that all the Stands are named after songs, albums or bands. Extends to several characters and chapter titles as well such as the penultimate chapter being titled There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.
  • Mythology Gag: Several events that happened in the original Kill La Kill but that don’t occur in this story are still referenced.
    • Satsuki’s Stand being named White Wedding references how Junketsu in the original series was meant to be a wedding dress.
    • Sanageyama threatens to sew his eyes shut after losing to Ryuko but doesn’t go through with it because Satsuki talks him out of it.
    • Despite the Scissorblades not existing in the universe of this fanfic, Isshin still manages to take out Nui’s eye with a pair of scissors. Albeit an ordinary one.
    • In the epilogue chapter, Satsuki tells Nonon that she wanted to sink Honnouji Academy to the bottom of the bay but instead is considering turning it into a real school.
  • Official Couple: Mako and Ryuko end up getting together in the third act.
  • Pet the Dog: Donatello Versus seems to actually care about Nui and is horrified when she tells him about Ragyo’s “Purification”.
  • Pocket Dimension: Aikuro’s stand Driver Eight contains itself inside of one of these when it’s not being actively used. Since his Stand is a train, the pocket dimension is just an endless loop of train tracks.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Ragyo’s team of elite assassins is introduced halfway into the story where each of them is sent after Ryuko in an attempt to kill her.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Thanks to both Ryuko and Nui being genetically engineered with Dio’s DNA, they’re both connected to the Joestar bloodline.
  • Retcon: The name of Sanageyama’s Stand was originally House of Holy until the author found out that there already was a Stand with that name. It was then changed to be House of Pain.
  • Spared by the Adaptation Unlike in canon, Senketsu makes it to the end of the story. Additionally, a throwaway line in the final chapter reveals that Ermes and Anasui survived the events of Stone Ocean.
  • Stations of the Canon: Falls into this early on, with the first two chapters just being the first two episodes of Kill La Kill only with their respective one-off antagonists being Stand users. After Ryuko fights the Elite Four however things start to diverge more and more.
  • Translation Convention: While the story is written in English, there are several times where it’s acknowledged that there’s a language barrier between certain characters. When the American Donatello Versus appears, he mentions that Ragyo and Nui speak excellent English and needs to have Rei serve as a guide for him.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Ragyo considers Donatello disposable and uses him to heal Nui and create a new being with the Wall Eyes, not caring if he lives or dies.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 12 is where things first start to seriously diverge from canon when a new enemy Stand user nearly kills Mako’s family and successfully burns down their house. Even when Ryuko defeats him, she realizes how serious of a threat the Kiryuin family is.
