Red Butterfly
is a Fruits Basket fan fic written by Kirika Ando. The fic follows the series closely, with the addition of Akane Honda, Tohru's older sister by one year.
Red Butterfly contains examples of the following tropes:
- And This Is for...: In chapter 5, before going back home with the Sohmas, Akane doesn't hesitate to slap her Jerkass male cousin silly for Slut-Shaming her and Tohru, as well as insulting Kyoko.
- Big Sister Instinct: Akane towards Tohru. In chapter 2, she, believing Tohru was in the tent when it was buried in the landslide, doesn't hesitate to try to dig her out with her bare hands.
- Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Not exactly evil, but the basic principle is the same. Akane initially tried to follow in Kyoko's footsteps as the Red Butterfly, taking martial arts classes and getting into fights with bullies. Eventually, Kyoko ran damage control by getting Akane into drawing and artwork.
- Parting-Words Regret: As revealed in chapter 2, the last time Akane saw Kyoko alive, they had an argument, which ended with Akane screaming she hated her mother and wished she was dead. Akane bitterly regrets it, to the point of not even getting close to Kyoko's grave out of disgust with herself.
