Fanfic / Rebel Girl

Rebel Girl is a fanfiction for Persona 5 Royal, written by VGCKenny. The fanfiction follows the events of Persona 5 Royal to almost an exact amount, with a few changes here and there. Firstly, there is a new Big Bad in the form of Eris, the Greek God of strife and discord. Secondly, there are new Phantom Thieves, in the form of Lena, Akechi's girlfriend, and Jose, the flower drinker from Mementos.

The fic follows the Phantom Thieves trying to stop Eris and save the world, while at the same time trying to stop the conspiracy of mental shutdowns and psychotic breakdowns looming over their heads.

The fic is currently in its Sae arc, and is regularly updated. It was first uploaded on the 12th of June 2020, and had its most recent chapter posted a few days ago.

Rebel Girl contains examples of:

• Above Good and Evil:
  • This perfectly describes Eris. Whether her target kills the Palace ruler, or the Phantom Thieves forced them to confess, she couldn't be bothered.
• Above the Gods:
  • Eris has to be. After all, she killed Yaldabaoth, the God from the base game that you end up offing yourself.
• Absurdly Powerful Student Council:
  • This is evoked twice. Makoto applies to this rule, as she has a Persona. Hiroki also applies, since he later becomes a Crusader for Eris.
• Abusive Parents
  • Technically. Whilst not her parent by birth, this book keeps the canon aspects of Futaba's Uncle back when he was her guardian.
• Academy of Adventure:
  • Like with this trope's page, it also applies to Kamoshida's Palace.
• Acceptable Breaks from Canon:
  • Shiho survives and becomes a confidant.
  • Sumire both snaps out of being Kasumi, and awakens to her Persona way earlier.
  • Jose becomes a Phantom Thief.
  • Ren decides to stay in Tokyo.
  • Okumura survives.
• Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal:
  • Morgana is a cat-like being who wears a black bandanna mask, a yellow bandana around his neck, and a utility belt.
• Accidental Discovery:
  • Ryuji, many a time.
• A Child Shall Lead Them:
  • Ren, the leader of the Phantom Thieves, is a high-schooler, just like in the base game.
• Acquainted with Emergency Services:
  • Since this fic keeps the Takemi confidant, this trope is evoked.
• Act of True Love:
  • Sumire, many a time.
• Adaptational Backstory Change
  • Ren's arrest is changed, slightly. This time, she has a sister, who forbids her to stay with her. Her sister later regrets this once the two become estranged.
• Adaptational Early Appearance:
  • Cendrillion, Sumire's family, and the mentions of Sumire.
• Adaptational Gender Identity:
  • Ren is a female in this fic.
    • And Akechi is a trans male.
• Adaptational Late Appearance:
  • Anything relating to Akechi being the Black Mask, since both Madarame and Kaneshiro only refer to the Darkness.
• Adaptational Location Change:
  • Applies to most Palaces. Futaba's and Minamoto's are the only exceptions.
• Adaptational Sexuality:
  • Ren, who is straight in the base-game, is made a lesbian in this fic, meanwhile Sumire is made bisexual.

  • Okumura. Technically. Since Okumura dies in base game, we never truly see his Change of Heart's aftermath. In the fic, he survives, and we do.

  • Rebel Girl instead of Persona 5 Royal.

  • There are multiple areas.
    • Caroline and Justine never existed in this timeline.
    • Yaldabaoth has been written out due to being killed during the events of Chapter 1.

    • Maruki's counselling sessions outside of his confidant. (They exist in another fic by the same other, however.)
