After being shamed by her friends one too many times, Rainbow Dash ends up being mentally faced with every misfortune that befell her throughout the series and becomes the prime target for manipulation by a strange unicorn.
Tropes:
- 11th-Hour Superpower: Rainbow Dash gets one of these with help from the Spirit of Loyalty in order to finally put an end to Bitter Taste's machinations once and for all.
- Big Bad: Bitter Taste. He hypnotizes Cadence and Princess Celestia to rule over Equestria through them.
- Call-Back: The fanfic recalls events from previous episodes.
- Call-Forward: The Spirit of Loyalty informs Rainbow Dash that a descendent of hers named Haven will have prejudice against Earth Ponies and Unicorns.
- Crystal Prison: When Bitter Taste deprives Celestia and Luna of their alicornhood and makes them Earth Ponies, he imprions them in one of these to keep them from interfering with his plans.
- De-power: Bitter Taste is somehow powerful enough to deprive Celestia, Luna, Cadance, and Twilight of their alicornhood.
- Domestic Abuser: Bitter Taste is one for Cadence when they date as teenagers. He hypnotizes her to exploit her Princess status to get him special privileges.
- Even Evil Has Standards: In the 2nd chapter, Bitter Taste refuses to deprive Flurry Heart of her alicornhood, most likely because she is just an infant. He even lampshades the trope.Bitter Taste: There are lines even I would not dare cross.
- False Friend: Bitter Taste plays himself up as a pony who is friendly to Rainbow Dash, but in reality, he is a manipulative psychopath. Cadance had it worst because she used to date him.
- Hypnotize the Captive: Bitter Taste hypnotizes Rainbow Dash into being his mindless servant for the first two chapters before fully corrupting her into Princess Dark Rainbow when he turns her into a fully grown Alicorn.
- I Have You Now, My Pretty: After putting Rainbow Dash under his spell, Bitter Taste then compliments her on how beautiful she is.
- Bitter Taste ended up doing the same thing Celestia after hypnotizing her in the past.
- It's All My Fault: In the later chapters, when Rainbow Dash comes back to the light, she starts to feel immensely guilty for becoming a tyrant.
- Mass Hypnosis: Bitter Taste does this to all of Rainbow Dash's allies in the penultimate chapter.
- Morality Pet: Scootaloo is one for Rainbow Dash, which prompts the latter to regain her sense of good when Bitter Taste tries to hypnotize her.
- Near-Villain Victory: Bitter Taste would have gotten away with it if it weren't for that meddling Spirit of Loyalty.
- Pragmatic Villainy: Bitter Taste seems to be able to come up with very clever villainous schemes in order to make sure they come to fruition.
- "Reason You Suck" Speech: Princess Dark Rainbow lays one on her friends in the sixth chapter regarding the bad stuff they've done to her in the show.
- Shadow Discretion Shot: It's made into words (since this is a fanfic), but every time Bitter Taste takes away the alicornhood of the four alicorn, it's down in a shadow shot.
- Shout-Out: Rainbow Dash turning evil while given extraordinary powers is similar to how Cassandra from Tangled: The Series went through something similar.
Word of God says that he didn't even notice the similarities. - Superpowered Evil Side: Rainbow Dash, under a combination of hypnosis and alicorn essence, becomes the villainous Princess Dark Rainbow.
- Toxic Friend Influence: Bitter Taste takes this up to eleven when after making Rainbow Dash his friend, he puts her under his hypnotic influence and proceeds to make her do all kinds of horrible deeds when he transforms her into Dark Rainbow.
