Go To

When Saitama and Genos have a mishap with a certain alien ship's warp drive, they find themselves dazed and confused on the ground at USJ. How does everyone react to the duo's presence at UA? With rising tensions, strong enemies, and some strange hijinks, let's find out!

Punching Things Isn't a Quirknote  is a My Hero Academia/One-Punch Man crossover fanfic written by A Sometimes Lazy Writer. The story begins sometime after Boros' attack on A-City and during the climactic battle of the USJ Arc.

Has not been updated since March 2022. Should be considered a Dead Fic.

This fic contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed with Bakugo. While still hot-tempted, he acts as a genuine friend to Midoriya, to the point when he lets the latter give the opening speech at the Sports Festival in his place.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Instead of sending the USJ Nomu crashing through the roof and flying through the clouds, All Might merely knocks it into the nearby lake, from which it quickly re-emerges.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saitama and Genos step in to save All Might and the UA students from the League of Villains during the USJ attack.
  • Death by Adaptation: The USJ Nomu meets its end at Saitama’s fists.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: The attitude Saitama and Genos have in regard to killing monsters/villains clashes with the Japanese pro-heroes’ rule of killing being a last resort. Part of this can be observed as coming from Monsters in Saitama's world being something other than human, beings that are undoubtedly alien or, well, monstrous in nature and form. Thus, their job is more of that of an exterminator. Meanwhile, villains in Japan are human beings, and thus the job of a pro-hero is more similar to that of a police officer with special powers.
  • Description Cut: After Saitama reassures Ochako that her reason for wanting to be a hero note  is not something to be ashamed of since she will still save people as a hero, Izuku and Iida gush about how Saitama's reason to be a hero must be a noble and selfless one. Which, naturally, is immediately followed by this exchange:
Aizawa: So tell me, why did you decide to become a hero?
    Saitama: For fun.
  • Innocent Bigot: Saitama and Genos mistake people with mutation quirks as monsters and are confused as to why the pro-heroes are working with them.
  • Interdimensional Travel Device: A (damaged) machine on Boros’ ship functions as this, sending Saitama and Genos to another universe, though whether it was by design or due to a malfunction is unclear.
  • Original Character: Chapter 4 introduces Miasma, a woman who possesses a fungal-type quirk similar to Kinoko Komori. She also works for All For One.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Saitama and Genos are this for both the villains and heroes of the My Hero Academia universe.
  • Poor Communication Kills: A non-lethal example. While being interrogated by the pro-heroes, Genos mentions his and Saitama’s encounter with Doctor Genus, which the pro-heroes mistake as a reference to Daruma Ujiko and attempt to arrest the duo.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Deconstructed. Saitama is accused of murder after killing the USJ Nomu. This is further explored in later chapters, see Deliberate Values Dissonance above.
  • Wrong Context Magic: The pro-heroes fit Saitama with a quirk-blocking brace to keep his strength in check, but since his power doesn’t come from a quirk, it fails.
