Gray Hollins is a blacksmith's apprentice living in the rural town of Mineral Town. One day while trying (and failing) to make a necklace, the newest arrival in town - a young farmer named "Claire" - enters the store to discuss a deal with Saibara. Until that day, Gray had never met face-to-face with the new girl. After a rocky start, the two become friends, which soon develops into something more.
Pretty Ore
is a fanfic based off of Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town. There's not much of an overarching plot to it. Instead, it's a Slice of Life focused on Gray and Claire's developing relationship.
Pretty Ore provides examples of:
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Gray is a blond. He's supposed to be a redhead, but MFOMT is saturated in order to play better on the GBA's screen so he looks blond.
- Escapism: Gray's bookworm traits are because he uses books as escapism for his stressful life.
- Machinima: There's a series of videos made using the game's sprites based off of the fic. The series was never finished, however.
- Named by the Adaptation: Gray and Claire are given the surnames "Hollins" and "Haynes".
- Older Than They Look: Claire is only 1 year younger than Gray, but their age gap seems larger.
- Raging Stiffie: Gray gets one when in a tickle fight with Claire.
- Wacky Marriage Proposal: Gray and Claire purposed at the same time—Gray with a ring and Claire with a Blue Feather.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Gray has this relationship with his grandfather. He can't seem to get his approval, no matter what he does.
