"If you forget it...you'll regret it...PETA knows best."
And he spun around, disappearing into the trees.
No sooner had he gotten out of earshot then the Purrloin fell over, howling with laughter, leaving the frustrated and humiliated boy to contemplate his mission, as well as wonder exactly when his life had turned into a Disney musical.
- This is just one of the many moments of the hilarity ensuing throughout the story.

Pokédex Adventures is an Affectionate Parody series created by RunsWithScizors.

Follow the adventures of the many protagonists of the Pokémon games who are mostly reluctant to be heroes and just want to do their thing. Most of the time.

The series starts from Unova and continues on from there. Here be the installments of the series:

The Pokedex Adventures contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Personality Change: Not really, but the personalities of some of the heroes and characters here are much different than what common fan depictions had depicted them to be. To list some:
  • Affectionate Parody: You have less willing protagonist and many Lampshade Hanging's going around about the game in general. Not that it's a bad thing as this is what brought a good chunk of the story's humor.
  • All There in the Manual: Trivia's and other epilogue tidbits are included in the author's profile page.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: Played for Laughs in "To Be A master". Team Rocket used this method to render Sabrina out of commission from dealing with them by reciting M-rated fanfics in their heads to squick out Sabrina from attempting to confront them.
  • Base-Breaking Character: In-universe example in One Hit KO. While the majority agree that Ethan, Lyra and Kris helped in good will, some thought that they are just wanna-be heroes and were just lucky, while others think that due to their connections, they staged the whole Goldenrod Radio tower raid.
  • Book Ends: Destiny Bond starts with Calem being tackled by his mom's Fletchling. While not at the epilogue at the time yet, the same thing happened in the finale of the Parade where a Fletchling tackled him when all is said and done.
  • Born Lucky: Dawn from "Critical Hit". When one of your first captures is a shiny and you managed to get the odds of getting a female Eevee from Bebe Explanation , you can't get any luckier than that. However, this is ultimately a Downplayed Trope that Dawn's luck doesn't always work 24/7 such as when it took hours for her to find a Male Ralts.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Most Fan content for Black and White has it that having Hilbert as the protagonist of the BW stories will have Rosa be the protagonist of B2W2 and reverse as well. Not only is Hilda the main protagonist here, Rosa is the chosen one for the B2W2 chapter.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: In Critical Hit, Dawn's Rapidash bribes Frosslass to lose by giving her Chocolate. Yes, you read that right. This is also how Dawn was able to win over Giratina.
  • Brick Joke:
    • In One Hit KO. Ethan's Fortune Cookie is very direct and says he'll ride on Raikou like a horse. Much later, Ethan did get the Raikou, and ride on it like a horse.
    • In-Universe and out, the pairing of Colress and Aurea Juniper starts out as a Crack Pairing but come "Total Eclipse" and "Ultra Force", Colress and Aurea are an established Official Couple.
  • Call-Back: Silver's rebellious streak against Team Rocket is mentioned early in One-Hit-KO. Doubled as a Call-Forward as his cameo in "To Be A Master".
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Diana, the toddler that Leaf baby sat in "To Be A Master" will eventually grow up and become the protagonist for the Sun and Moon installment of the series.
  • Composite Character: Due to both protagonists existing, aspects of the Player Character are shared between them, with a handful of exceptions.
    • Hilda is the main character, but Hilbert is the hero chosen by Reshiram while Hilda took the aspect of being the one to befriend and get to know N.
    • Nate is focused on the Pokestar Studios while Rosa is the firm hero of their tale. Though she didn't get Zekrom from N, she instead got Kyurem itself.
    • Brendan focuses on the gym battles while May is a mixture of the canonical Hoenn games rival as the child of Professor Birch and does contests.
  • Crack Pairing: In universe example in Shades of Gray where the Shadow Triad played The Sims and made Colress and Professor Aurea Juniper a couple in said game with the reason being "Gorgeous science babies". They also ship Colress and Professor Juniper hard.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Shauna Saves the Day is a side story centering on Shauna.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Some of the characters had their moments but the biggest examples are Hilda, Dawn, Calem and Diana.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In "Dragon Ascent", May points out to Zinnia that she doesn't have a back up when her plan to use Rayquaza to stop the meteor fails due to Rayquaza being weak in its awakening. Zinnia reluctantly agreed that she didn't have any other back up plans in mind.
  • Did You Just Have Tea With Cthulhu: Essentially what boils down to Dawn and Giratina's interaction after Cyrus got defeated in the Distortion World.
Cyrus: Stop making friends with Satan!
  • Foil: Dawn in "Critical Hit" ends up being one to Cyrus due to their similar snarkiness and cynicism. The difference is that Dawn had a loving family despite her father's passing, had a good friend in Barry and met Lucas, while Cyrus didn't have anyone that he could truly rely on.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming:
    • Not quiet obvious but this is becoming a bit more apparent with future installments since Not Always Black and White.
    • Except for the Unova and Alola set adaptations, the other stories are named after Pokémon terms and moves, with "Darkest Day" being named after the titular Darkest Day from Pokémon Sword and Shield itself.
  • In-Series Nickname: Colress is casually referred to as Whooshie man by Kyurem.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Dawn ends up winning Giratina over with chocolate, which can be equated to giving Giratina a bait or a Poke Toy. In "Platinum", you can actually Take a Third Option with the Giratina fight in the main scenario of the game by running away.
  • Named by Adaptation: Downplayed Trope. While the other protagonists use their canonical names, Selene and Elio, the Player Character's of Pokémon Sun and Moon, are instead given the name Diana and Eli due to the author and editor admitting that they don't like their canonical names.
  • Nominal Hero: Most of the protagonists are heroes by virtue of being based on the Player Character due to the Affectionate Parody nature of this series. While they are more than willing to save the day, a majority are also shown to want to do their own thing than to be railroaded to a heroic journey.
  • Official Couple: So far, the confirmed ones had been N and Hilda, and Cheren and Bianca. As of "The Sootopolis Holiday Special," Wallace/Flannery is also official. The rest of the possible couples are hinted as Maybe Ever After's due to Will They or Won't They? being in place.
    • In Darkest Day, Leon and Sonia.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Brendan's soda shop-lifting Noodle Incident is brought up for so frequently.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: In "To Be A Master". Red, Blue, and Leaf are revealed to actually be nicknames. Leaf's real name is Lisa but that begs the mystery to Red and Blue's real name...
  • Shout-Out:
    • Disney songs. There's a reason why they had been parodied a lot throughout the series.
    • Mentions of modern culture such as Tumblr can be found.
    • A chapter centered on Red and Leaf's meeting with Bill is named after the lyrics of Bill Nye the Science Guy's theme song.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Anthea and Concordia ship N and Hilda hard. Not only that, N's Zoroark and Hilda's Serperior, Erika also ship them and are secretly match-making them.
    • Hugh's sister used to ship Rosa with him until the end of Shades of Gray where she now ships him with gym leader Roxie.
    • At least many of the Team Aqua Grunts and May are convinced that Archie and Shelly are a thing. They become official after the Delta Episode
    • Lysander, of all people, ships Sycamore and Diantha. It has to be seen to be believed.
  • Rule of Fun: Quite a lot of it occurs throughout the series, given that this is an Affectionate Parody of the games.
  • Running Gag:
    • N being called a werewolf.
    • Tommy the Oshawott, now a Samurott is such an Extreme Omnivore that he will eat anything. Even a Poké Ball and hair.
    • In Shades of Gray, we have the "Gorgeous science babies".
      • In addition, we have hair jokes.
    • Beware of the forest gods. By "To Be A Master", it's considered an Overly Long Gag at this point.
    • In Critical Hit, Ghost Pokemon apparently love Chocolate as a Trademark Favorite Food.
    • The heroes question decisions of other characters such as gym leaders and elite fours alike with this as their retort.
"Don't question me and my bad choices."
    • One of the protagonist having a Celebrity Crush on a gym leader or Elite Four. Or the champion.
    • Villains of the game parodying Disney's villain songs.
    • One Oddball Pokemon as a team member for one of the heroes. Hilbert's starter Oshawott, Tommy and Calem's Eevee, being prime examples.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Several of the protagonist has a fear at a certain Pokemon. Darmanitan for Hilda and Mr.Mime for Calem.
  • Will They or Won't They?: All over the place. The lone exception being the Kanto installment, "To Be A Master", as the author mentions that there are no romantic interest between the three protagonist.
    • Not Always Black And White has Hilda/N and Cheren/Bianca.
    • Shades of Gray has Nate/Rosa.
    • One-Hit KO has Ethan/Kris, Silver/Lyra, and Morty/Whitney.
    • Critical Hit has Dawn/Lucas.
    • Super Effective has Brendan/Lisia, May/Tate, and Steven/Winona.
    • Destiny Bond has Calem/Serena. There's also Sycamore/Diantha.
    • Total Eclipse gives Gladion/Diana.
  • World of Snark: Given the nature of the premise? It's bound to happen a lot.
